  1. Bradfords shoulder will be creaking and groaning if the Bills ever moved up to take him. Maybe he knows a sleeper left tackle that our scouts missed. "Hey Sam we need a stud LT but we're gonna trade up for you, and before we do.....uh......well you should know that we're gonna switch you to a lefty so you can see the rush coming.... its for your own good son, believe me...."
  2. Maybe instead of bringing in financial advisors and league veterans to help immature guys like Marshawn, the Bills should bring in a guy like Travis Henry or Ray Buchanon or Nate Newton (when he gets out of the clink) and have them talk to the fools who either dont understand how short the typical NFL career really is, or don't grasp how low their earning potential is when they're out of the league in a few years. I think Gailey is going to make Marshawn his pet project (next to QB obviously). Its naive to think Freddy can carry the team for 17 weeks on his own, and unless they get another solid RB on draft day we need the Beast for a dozen touches per game this year.
  3. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nf...-analysis_N.htm This still has to be voted on, and there are some guys against it, but it sounds like they have enough votes. I LOVE this initiative. Its for playoff games only but I think if it goes well they'll move it to regular season. Not as good as the college OT format, but my understanding is that if you win the coin toss and end up scoring a TD then the game is over. Same as now. However, if you kick a field goal then the other team gets to receive the ball and the OT plays on. The idea is that there are far too many games being won simply by guessing heads or tails correctly. Its proven that you have a significantly better chance in the NFL if you win the coin toss, which is lame. You should decide the game fairly on the field, not from somebody tossing up a coin. Even Polian said he was a traditionalist but he was for the idea. I hope it flies.
  4. Seems harder to trade down these days unless someone falls unexpectedly. All 8 teams ahead of us have multiple needs as well, and some of them will likely have the same philosophy that they'd rather trade down and have three guys from day 1 instead of 2. Which brings up the point, if I'm a team wanting to trade up to grab a guy, is there anyone NOT in the top 8 that I really want badly enough to lose a high pick for? Possibly a lineman, maybe a WR like Dez if a team is dying for the guy. I think we aren't going to trade away any players OR picks this year.
  5. Buddy Lee Nix. Man of Action.
  6. Not sure I agree with everything you said, but you're right that AP has a far better offensive line . Two pro bowlers on the left in Hutchinson and McKinnie, and that rookie RT Loadholt (who I wish the bills would've taken) is a killer run blocker. I watched every Minny game this year and it just seemed like AP wasn't seeing the holes. Even Percy Harvin and Chester Taylor were taking advantage of the blocking, but not Adrian as much. Combine that with Minny's top rated passing game for opposing defenses to worry about and yes, AP certainly underacheived this year, esp in the second half of the year. Lynch isn't a home run hitter like AP, so it's hard to compare that. They're both intense, physical and seem like they enjoy contact. We absolutely need two good backs though, and Lynch isn't going anywhere unless Gailey sees an attitude problem which I doubt he will. His trade value isn't that high right now anyway and Nix knows it. Marshawn may be a slug off the field but he seems like he wants to win and do well for his team. I've never seen the guy quit for a second. I hope he stays I like watching his crazy ass shifty tough style. I think Gailey will use Roscoe and Lynch more frequently than Jauron did.
  7. Joe DeLamielleure talking about QB's: "Right. I’ve heard it. C’mon. You know what change makes a coach great? Quarterback. Bottom line, Bart Starr left, Vince Lombardi got fired. Staubach left, Landry got fired. Terry Bradshaw left, Chuck Noll got fired. Seifert had Steve Young and goes to the Super Bowl. He goes to Carolina, he’s 1-15. Guess what? It’s all about quarterback. ... So if the Bills don’t have a quarterback, Chan Gailey will be average at best....." Well said Joe. He forgot to include Belichick, who had a lame record of 41-56 with one playoff appearance and no victories as an NFL head coach before Bledsoe got hurt and Brady replaced him. He went from a losing coach who couldn't hold his job in Cleveland to an instant "genius" overnight.
  8. Here's some sports quotes (always good to use in a paper): "I always turn to the sports section first. The sports page records people's accomplishments; the front page has nothing but man's failures." ~Earl Warren "Sports is human life in microcosm." ~Howard Cosell "We are inclined that if we watch a football game or baseball game, we have taken part in it." ~John F. Kennedy, 1961 "When it comes to sports I am not particularly interested. Generally speaking, I look upon them as dangerous and tiring activities performed by people with whom I share nothing except the right to trial by jury." ~Fran Lebowitz "If the Bible has taught us nothing else, and it hasn't, it's that girls should stick to girls' sports, such as hot oil wrestling, foxy boxing, and such and such." ~Homer Simpson, The Simpsons "Pain heals. Chicks dig scars. Glory lasts forever." ~Vince McKewin, from the movie The Replacements "The essence of sports is that while you're doing it, nothing else matters, but after you stop, there is a place, generally not very important, where you would put it." ~Roger Bannister "People understand contests. You take a bunch of kids throwing rocks at random and people look askance, but if you go and hold a rock-throwing contest - people understand that." ~Don Murray
  9. I dont remember Levitre ever playing LT. But then again I don't remember Marv Levy being a very good game coach and he's in the HOF so I'm probably wrong again.
  10. Poz goes 240, 6' 1" wouldnt say thats little for a middle guy. I go 5'10 and a whoppin 166, now THERE's a three technique nose for ya.......
  11. You're right, there are some anomalies as with any ranking system, but for the record, Adrian Peterson sucked the second half of the season. (Im not saying he sucks, but his numbers sure did) As for Garrard and Brady, it's not saying one is better than the other, just outlining statistical rankings to be considered in the big picture.
  12. I told you to stop using the computer Grandma Whitner....
  13. Its very likely that there are a few QB's that Chan and Buddy (Man these southern football hicks sure get some gay names....what's next...Lovie? ) would take if they're still on the board. If you're of the opinion we should draft a QB, then what just happened with Cleveland dumping BOTH of their qb's doesn't help us at all because unless they have something sneaky up their sleeve they're another team in front of us that's going to take a QB. You make a good point that we already have mediocre guys that have shown they can win some NFL games on the roster, so free agency isn't much of an option here. In my opinion they'll pass on drafting a QB unless they love someone and trade up to get him or their guy drops to us like Big Ben did to Pitt. I think they need to invest in another LTackle because it's impossible to develop a new QB if he only has 2 seconds on every play before he's hit.
  14. Yeah we should name him "Captain Lackluster Seasons" But seriously, we are so solid with dbacks right now the only thing I want Leodis doing is working on becoming the kickoff return force that he was before the injury. We have Terrence and Leodis on our team, the two best AFC kickoff returners in the last 5 years. We've gotta get one of them back in the groove for next year.
  15. The next time I see Ralph's wife I'm gonna ask her to play tennis with me, then try to seduce her and make her my mistress. I'll get her drunk with a few Old Fashioned Highballs, then she and I will figure out how we can keep the team when the old man kicks off. I've seen her in person, and I can say this will truly be taking one for the team. But this is OUR hill, and these are OUR beans.......
  16. In the 3-4 Defense there are typically two outside linebackers and two inside linebackers. The weak side inside linebacker is typically called the "Will," while the strong side or middle inside linebacker is called the "Mike". "Sam" is the strong outside linebacker, and "Jack" and is like a hybrid DE/LB. I assume this is where Maybin would fit in. Poz and Mitchell would likely play inside, and I think they'll put Maybin on the weakside, where they don't always have to face the big interior linemen one on one (unless one is pulling or they have some exotic blocking scheme) So far the only thing we know about Maybin is that he struggles with the 300 pounders and would play better in space. (We also know that he'll hold out for money to the detriment of the team and his career and try to blame his agent, but that's another post.) In coverage, which Maybin has virtually no experience at, he would cover the running back that attacks his side of the field first in man coverage, and they also cover the flat in zone coverage. You need a fast guy that can run, rush the passer, and cover, which means they should be working with him TODAY on that stuff because he's so inexperienced in coverage especially and they know the 3-4 is coming to Buffalo. Usually, teams that run a 3-4 defense look for college defensive ends that are too small to play the position in the pros and not quite fluid enough to play outside linebacker in a 4-3 defense as their "Jack" linebacker. I learned that from the Coach's playbook they were giving away when he was on 550am in the good ole days. The idea behind the 3-4 Defense is to disguise where the fourth rusher will come from. Instead of the standard four down-linemen in the 4-3, only 3 players are clearly attacking on nearly every play. 3-4 needs three large defensive linemen who command constant double teams especially the Nose Tackle. The focus of the 3-4 defensive line is simply to occupy offensive linemen and dont get pushed back. We have Kyle and Stroud for that, but I'd be adding 20 pounds to Spencer this offseason and looking for a 340 true Nose Tackle in the draft on day one somewhere. The bottom line is that next year is going to be Maybin's REAL rookie year, first time in camp, first time with the 3-4 learning a new system. I hope he makes so many tackles he'll be too tired to celebrate like an idiot on mediocre plays as he does now. I bust on him but I am really pushing for the kid. He could be a great Bill.
  17. One time against Miami, Lynch ran into the Bills sideline getting tackled, and Hamdan quickly and expertly switched his clipboard from his left hand to his right (so as not to fumble it) as he avoided being taken out by the players. Very impressive instincts. And it was one of those heavy masonite brown ones (coincidentally the EXACT same color as a football) with the chrome clip, not the cheap light plastic ones. With these kinds of sideline moves and that Ralph Macchio hair, he seems ready to me baby............. Go GreenEggs n Hamdan !!!!!!
  18. I hear people say to take the best player available instead of a need position. My thought is it would be nice to know just who the best player available is. It is not a given as it comes down to predicting the future. One person's best player may significantly differ from another's best player available. Also, the ratings can be so close that players are put in tiers, where need may be the winning factor. Trent Edwards was the "best player available" as was Mike Williams. Also the best player available (according to Buddy's list) might be a TE. But say there's a DT with a .0001 lesser grade. Who do you take? The point is that any team can say they took the best player available, but in reality, they have no clue who the best player available is. Who knows? No one knows. The best player available might be a 6th round QB.
  19. NBC is so out of touch. I love Costas and Michaels and that chick who commentates the womens downhill, but they NEVER have any data on the TV like a banner that runs constantly (a la pardon the interruption style) letting you know WHO is competing, when, where, etc. Specify whether its a prelim run or a first heat/ semifinal etc. DUH Show ALL the time differentials from the leaders when they do the runs, not just the person in first place. (like if our skiier is going last, what time do they need to beat to get a bronze and silver medal, not just gold DUH.....) Put it this way, without a well designed banner constantly running, you are pretty much in the dark at least half the time. You can use your laptop to get the information but only on the live stuff otherwise you know the results before they air. Whistler is an amazingly beautiful place and so is the olympic village, but Vancouver and NBC are really sucking.
  20. Nice posting Bandit. Sometimes it takes an arrogant poster like PadaDdy to inspire a little research. As annoying as guys like that are with their "it's THIS SIMPLE duh, everyone else is an idiot" approach, they provide some value to message boards just by motivating others to present them with facts and logical analysis. I have a neighbor like PaDadDy . They take complex issues and tell everyone exactly what needs to be done to fix it and everyone else is an idiot who doesn't see it their way. Wait a minute, maybe he IS my neighbor.
  21. Ive always been surprised that Wilson doesn't return punts for us. Receiver hands, good speed and size, instinctive. Seems like he plays pretty smart. Not afraid of contact, has special teams experience. I'll bet DeHaven takes a look at him for returning punts in camp. Gotta give Skeletor credit for recognizing his talent and finding a way to use the guy.
  22. The super bowl champions LT was a backup 4th round pick named Bushrod from Towson University. (Yeah i havent heard of it either) He was average to say the least. Did OK against Peppers and Abraham but struggled against Demarcus Ware and Jared Allen in the playoffs. Below average against Freeney in the big game even with help on that left side. The quarterback won them the game primarily because of his accuracy and pocket sense. They are both critical positions and its hard to say which is a better pick until you see what's available on draft day, but all things equal I would rather have an above average QB and a serviceable LT than the other way around. You can help LT's with TE's and blocking backs, but the QB is on his own.
  23. Reggie Wayne sucked all post season. I know he draws the top corner usually, but still, the guy was invisible. Even on that pick that sealed the game, his job on that play is to seal the corner with his body, THEN turn for the ball.
