Trade Roscoe Parrish during the offseason??
Webster Guy replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thats a good point about deciding who you can win without, even if they are good players. We had some close games early this year that we won, and if i remember correctly Roscoe did have some contributions there. Specifically that TD pass on the left side of the endzone (San Diego maybe?) It doesn't mean that play couldn't have been made by another good receiver in his place though. I think the question comes down to what you can reasonably expect to get for the player in a trade. If it's a 3rd round pick could we get a contributor where we need it? Maybe a LB (by the way the Bills putting Crowell on IR to prove a point was incredibly foolish. He likely would have been back weeks ago but instead we have a huge hole in our LB corps and boy does it show. That felt like a Dopey-Ralph inspired decision to me. Maybe he forgot his meds at the Toronto Savings Bank that day) Anyway I would hate to see us trade such an exciting player, but punters can usually avoid kicking to him by going out of bounds or forcing the fair catch. Notice how many actual returns he's had in the past 5 games it's meaningless. Turk isn't using him on screens or reverses, and we obviously need help in other areas. I don't think you can discreetly shop a player in the NFL anymore without them hearing about it, so maybe the best bet is to get the word out officially and see what happens. Man that guy is incredible to watch though. My favorite Bill when he has the ball. -
Level-headed response to the game
Webster Guy replied to justnzane's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You can argue that the OC calls the plays but you can't dispute that the head coach helps with the general direction of the offense and its decisions. For example, its 3rd down and 6 but the yardage and the game situation calls for us going for it on 4th here so maybe we run on 3rd and long which they arent expecting. Lets say we don't get the first down but we get some decent yardage because they were playing pass (as they should on 3rd and long) and their LB's dropped into coverage a bit too much so now its 4th and 2 and we have already called in the play so they can't change personnel and now OUR side dictates the play based on the coverage they are forced to go with. The QB has the defense guessing, and calls the play that HE wants to run. That's how Turk Shonert or any OC wants to run their offense. So let him try. Let him run 3 reverses to Roscoe, or call quick shovel passes to Freddie Jackson, or the short inside draws to Marshawn on the 3rd and long when they only have 3 in the box (like most of tonite) Jauron is smart and calm, but in his playoff years he did it with a defense that was far better than the way Buffalo has been playing lately. (although you have to admit it was fun to watch Stroud dominate tonite) Our head coach should take a page from Bobby April's playbook: sometimes you have to gamble to win. We should play to win and never play to NOT lose. If the wildcat offensive works then you run it and run it and run it until it fails you more than once. After the Royal catch at the 30 they got too conservative, playing not to lose again. And we lost. I'm not saying change the coach, I'm just suggesting that the coach change a bit. You played at home against a very weak secondary and you never called a play for your QB to throw more than 15 yards, even though we all could see that our OL held up well in pass protection. Were you afraid of Trent throwing more picks? Being sheepish is not how we break a three game losing streak Dick. You break it by trying to win the game and by being aggressive and allowing your offense to dictate the plays based on the matchups and the coverage. The Welker challenge blunder last week was huge Dick, even my 9 year old saw it before you did from our couch. It may have cost us the game, but against Cleveland you got too conservative again and put Lindell in front of a kick that was too far for him to make tonite. You seemed afraid to throw against a team that was about to be 3-7 with one more ten yard pass. But you didn't trust your boys and now we are a mediocre 500 team. It's hard to criticize a guy who knows 1000 times more about football than I ever will, but once in awhile I feel like he doesn't have what my old high school coach used to call "a knack for the W's" Most kids thought that W meant WINS, but some of us thought that old perverted bastard meant "WOMEN". Either way I hope our head coach learns from this. He may have cost us a few games this year and boy that means a whole in the big picture. Great job tonite Freddy, Marshawn, Jason, Terrence, Jabari and Marcus. Let's rest up and beat the Chiefs on this short week. And someone tell Whit that just the idea of playing with a separated shoulder is too wickedly painful for any of us to watch. We love the dedication there Buckeye, but do us all a favor and sit it out until you can deliver the hits that Scott is laying out these days. See you in a few weeks Donte. -
Why does Solomon Wolcots have a job?
Webster Guy replied to todd's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The announcing team in general was not great, missing penalties and action on the field. I don't mind "the Beels" but have some trouble with Trent "Et-wurts" -
My 2 pet peeve sayings: 1) "There you go." Anytime anyone says this to you, they are really saying stop talking you idiot. 2) "....and let me tell you why". I think the Bills are going to the playoffs this year and let me tell you why.... just say "because..."

2003's '08-'09 Bills Positional Lookout (QB for now)
Webster Guy replied to 2003's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nice post. I think that "character" may be the wrong word here. I think "intelligence" is the reason. I think JP's character is not a problem. -
You might as well have said, "Most fortune tellers I have seen say that Fine wasn't the TE we were looking for." Internet mock drafts are a dime a dozen. Maybe Fine will succeed, maybe not- but to suggest that it may happen based on the "mock drafts" is kind of putting too much faith in the power of having a website.

Jabari Greer on Sirius 126 11:30ET Friday...
Webster Guy replied to Buffalolips's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thanks for posting that! I found this interesting: The host then focused more on what kind of effect losing these team leaders like Fletch and Spikes would have on the Bills... Jabari said it would have no negative effect what so ever. That this team can be even better without having the "rah rah" type of team leaders. He thought that this team now has a bunch of players that know how to just do their jobs. They do not need the constant "rah rah" types for motivation. I think that is what Marv and Dick are looking for- the internally motivated player who doesn't need that cheerleading. Good post. -
1. Oakland Raiders - QB JaMarcus Russell (LSU)...Russell is a big body with a big arm which will fit in well with the Raiders vertical passing game...the team passed up two franchise type QB's in last years Draft and people close to the organization feel it set them back in their rebuilding process...they won't make the same mistake again! 2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (from Detroit) - WR Calvin Johnson (Georgia Tech)...Draft Day Trade...The Lions will deal this pick in a Draft Day trade with Tampa and Atlanta being their likely trading partner....Tampa wants Calvin Johnson and has the ammunition to make the move to get him...the Bucs have two second round picks (their own and Indy's) and switch picks with the Lions and send them their second round pick #35 and their fifth round pick #131 to complete the deal. 3. Cleveland Browns - QB Brady Quinn (Notre Dame)...The Browns need to find an identity for the franchise in this Draft...by taking Brady Quinn the Browns would have their franchise-type QB in place...Romeo Crennel and team owner Randy Lerner were both in attendance at Quinns Pro Day workout and came away very impressed...if Quinn is already off the board then look for them to entertain trade talks to move down or take HB Peterson or OT Thomas with this pick. 4. Detroit Lions (from Tampa ) - DE Gaines Adams (Clemson)...Draft Day Trade...The Lions found a trading partner in a Draft day trade with Tampa...the Lions are pleased that they didn't have to move down too far and made the deal with the Bucs...the Lions acquired the Bucs second round pick #35 and their fifth round pick #131 for the move...Detroit still has the option to move down again since Arizona is said to covet Joe Thomas and may be willing to give Detroit a Draft pick to secure him...the Lions will either take Adams or Thomas here with Louisville Dt Amobi Okoye (a great fit in their scheme) being a darkhorse pick if they trade down further. 5. Arizona Cardinals - OT Joe Thomas (Wisconsin)...The Cardinals were hoping that OT Thomas would slip thru the cracks and waste little time in making their pick...Arizona may be willing to give up a Draft pick to move up and secure Thomas. 6. Atlanta Falcons (from Washington) - FS LaRon Landry (LSU)...Draft Day Trade... The Redskins will be active on Draft day because this is the only first day pick the team owns...plus... several teams will be calling since both Landry and Peterson are still on the board...Atlanta has the ammunition to swing a trade and switches picks with the Skins and includes their third round pick #75 in the deal...the Falcons really want Landry and know if they stay put at #8 he might be off the board. 7. Minnesota Vikings - HB Adrian Peterson (Oklahoma)...Vikings Coach Brad Childress has hinted that the team intends to lessen the workload of Chester Taylor this season because Taylor is a smaller type back who was over-worked last year...if Peterson is here, he will be tough to pass up since Gaines Adams and LaRon Landry are both already off the board. 8. Washington Redskins (from Atlanta) - DE Jamaal Anderson (Arkansas)...Draft Day Trade...The Redskins acquired this pick from Atlanta along with the Falcons third round pick #75 for their sixth pick overall...there are three players (DE Anderson, DT's Okoye and Branch) that the Redskins will make their pick here...Anderson's stock is picking up steam as the Draft approaches and DE's that can rush the passer don't fall off trees...if Anderson is off the board the Redskins could move back again because that would mean that Landry or Peterson are still available which would draw interest to this pick. 9. Miami Dolphins - DT Amobi Okoye (Louisville)...The Dolphins have needs to fill on their aging Defensive line...but they also have needs on the O-Line at Tackle...the Dolphins will choose between Okoye, DT Branch or OT Brown here. 10. Houston Texans (from Atlanta) - OT Levi Brown (Penn State)....Trade Down?...Don't be surprised if the Texans make an attempt to trade down to add picks since they dealt their second rounder as part of the Matt Schaub trade...depending on how far they move, look for them to target a DE or a WR later in the round...if they keep this pick it's Levi Brown to solidify their offensive line. 11. San Francisco 49'ers - DE Adam Carricker (Nebraska)...Trade Down?...They just made a big splash in FA on the Defensive side of the ball and would like to turn their attention to the offense to help Alex Smith..however...none of the WR's are worthy of this pick...Carricker is a perfect fit at End in Nolans 3-4 scheme and the type of player Nolan wants on his team. 12. Buffalo Bills - ILB Patrick Willis (Mississippi)...Willis is just what the doctor ordered for a run defense that was poor last season and lost it's MLB (London Fletcher-Baker) in free-agency...He's also a great fit for their Tampa-2 scheme...their HB will come in round two or three. 13. St. Louis Rams - DT Alan Branch (Michigan)... I believe the Rams will be looking for a trading partner to move down in the Draft because they have several holes to fill and can move down a bit and still fill their needs...Rams DC Jim Haslett will push hard in the War room for Posluszny if the team trades down...but since Branch has slipped they make him their pick. 14. Carolina Panthers - CB Leon Hall (Michigan)...Trade Down?...The Panther need LB'er help but they won't stray away from their board just to fill a position...the team is very high on TE Greg Olsen but Hall is at the top of their board and the pick. 15. Pittsburgh Steelers - OLB Lawrence Timmons (Florida State)...The Steelers were hoping that DE Carricker would fall to them here but since he's gone they take the best player on their board in LB Timmons...the Steelers are said to covet Timmons. 16. Green Bay Packers - TE Greg Olsen (Miami-Florida)...The Packers fill one of their needs on the offensive side of the ball and give Brett Favre a target at TE that can stretch a Defense...the Packers passed on HB Lynch and the WR's here. 17.Jacksonville Jaguars - DE Jarvis Moss (Florida)...Their biggest needs are at Safety and the DE position and will choose between DE Moss and Reggie Nelson...Moss has the ability to develop into a feared pass-rusher if he's willing to pay the price. 18. Cincinnati Bengals - FS Reggie Nelson (Florida)..Finding a TE with speed is high on the Bengals Draft priority list so Greg Olsen will be considered if he's on the board...but the Bengals also have needs on the defensive side of the ball and Nelson has the ability to start from day one for the Bengals and provide a huge upgrade in their secondary. 19. Tennessee Titans - CB Chris Houston (Arkansas)...The Titans signed Colts CB Nick Harper to ease their CB situation but the team will still need another CB if and when Pacman is suspended or released...Houston gets the nod over a WR or HB here. 20. New York Giants - OLB Paul Posluszny (Penn State)...Trade Down?...The Giants need help at several positions so trading down and adding picks would make sense...if they keep this pick...it's Posluszny because OLB is one of their biggest needs at this time despite signing Kawika Mitchell. 21. Denver Broncos - WR Ted Ginn Jr. (Ohio State)......Finding a DE who can rush the passer is the teams top offseason priority... so don't be surprised if they try to trade up and into one of the Top 10 picks of the Draft to land either Gaines Adams or Jamaal Anderson...since none of the other DE's are worthy here they tab the speedy Ginn to strengthen their need at WR. 22. Dallas Cowboys - CB Darrelle Revis (Pittsburgh)..The Cowboys are hoping that their need at Safety was filled with the signing of Ken Hamlin and now add Revis to further strengthen their secondary which was the teams weak link last season...a WR will also be considered here. 23. Kansas City Chiefs - WR Robert Meachum (Tennessee)...The Chiefs need to find a WR this offseason and Meachum's stock has been rising since the end of the season....plan B is to take a CB with this pick. 24. New England Patriots (from Seattle) - S Brandon Meriweather (Miami-Florida)...The Pats have needs on the defensive side of the ball at Safety and at Linebacker and Meriweather is the best available on the board at this time.... several prospects that carry second to fourth round grades would be a good fit for the team if they decide to trade out of pick #28. 25. New York Jets - CB Aaron Ross (Texas)...Greg Olsen was one of the players the Jets were targeting... but since he's gone they go for the last of the top four CB's that are left on the board. 26. Philadelphia Eagles - DE Anthony Spencer (Purdue)....The Eagles have several needs on the Defensive side of the ball but filled one of them with the acquisition of Takeo Spikes from the Bills...the team wants to strengthen their Defense and will choose between S Michael Griffin and DE Spencer here...Spencer gets the nod because the Eagles DE's are getting old and their are depth questionmarks at the position...plus...this is a typical Eagles pick devoting a high choice to one of their lines. 27. New Orleans Saints - CB Marcus McCauley (Fresno St.)...Finding a CB to play opposite of Mike McKenzie is one of the teams top priorities this offseason...McCauley is coming off of a dissapointing season but has the talent to warrant this pick. 28. New England Patriots - LB LaMarr Woodley (Michigan) - Trade Down?...The Pats could move down and out of this pick to stockpile choices since they no longer have a second round pick which went to Miami in the Wes Welker trade ...however the team needs to find a couple of LB'er in this Draft and are said to be very high on Woodley and Jon Beason...the Patriots feel Woodley could make the transition from DE to LB in their scheme much like Tedi Bruschi did coming out of Arizona. 29. Baltimore Ravens - OT Joe Staley (Central Michigan)...The Ravens were hoping that Staley was still on the board because their offensive line has taken a hit this offseason with the loss of ROT Tony Pashos to the Jaguars and the release of the often injured OG Edwin Mulitalo..they also aren't sure if Jon Ogden will call it quits or come back for one more season. 30. San Diego Chargers - WR Dwayne Bowe (LSU)...The Chargers WR core needs an upgrade but the team will also be looking for a Safety and a Corner and some depth at the Linebacking position...since Bowe is still on the board he's the pick because eight DB's are already off the board. 31. Chicago Bears - FS Michael Griffin (Texas)...The Bears may be moving up in the Draft if they accept the Redskins offer for Lance Briggs...if they keep Briggs and this pick they have numerous options...the Bears didn't expect Griffin to be on the board and by taking him they will further strengthen their secondary because Daniel Manning can move back to CB. 32. Indianapolis Colts - OLB Jon Beason (Miami-Florida) - Trade Down!...The Colts could move down and out of this pick if the Draft falls this way but they need to find a replacement for Cato June who signed with Tampa as a free agent whether he's on the roster or in the Draft.

Just for fun, from 34 mock drafts, I tallied who the sites had for the first round pick for the Bills. Some had second round picks, but not all. I realize anyone with a website can do this, but here are their pick distributions: 1st round: 15 votes Marshawn Lynch, RB, Cal 8 votes Leon Hall, CB, Mich 4 votes Adrian Peterson, RB, Okla 3 votes Chris Houston, CB, Ark 2 votes Patrick Willis, ILB, Ole Miss 1 vote Alan Branch, DT, Mich 1 vote Laron Landry, DB, LSU 2nd round: 2 votes Marcus McCauley, CB, Fresno St. Rest are 1 vote each: Tarell Brown, CB, Texas 1 Kenny Irons, RB, Auburn 1 Brian Leonard, RB, Rutgers Josh Wilson, CB, Maryland Tony Hunt, RB, Penn St. David Harris, ILB, Mich Buster Davis, ILB, Florida St. Brandon Siler, LB, Florida Zach Miller, TE, Arizona

To me, draft day is a lot of fun and by far the laziest day of the year. While others may be cutting the lawn for the first time or cleaning the garage, I am a sloth who orders some subs and watches pretty much the whole thing, accomplishing absolutely nothing. I watch a pick, wait 15 minutes, watch another pick, wait 15 minutes, etc... for seven hours. A truly pathetic day. Also, I think ESPN's decision to make this an extravaganza has made the draft less fun to watch. They go to remote sites, many reporters, another set with couches- I just liked it when Berman, Theismann, and Kiper were in the marathon all day. So, anyone else waste the day? Again, I hope it rains (less guilt).

Is Adrian Petersen THAT good that he is worth swapping 1st round picks and giving up a 2nd and 4th rounder to Cleveland? No one can predict the future, but I have to say the odds of Buffalo coming out on top in your scenario are pretty low in my opinion. I don't think Marv would make that deal and I wouldn't either. But hey, Adrian Petersen could be a monster who stays healthy for years to come. My crystal ball says no.

Bill Polian: Was there even a mention
Webster Guy replied to Cornerville's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It was mentioned on WGR that Polian politely asked Jim Nance not to ask him any questions on the podium. Supposedly he said he didn't know what to say. My speculation is that Polian always knows what to say and he wanted the spotlight on the coach and the owner. -

Make the endzone's red again!!!!

100% agree, make them red. They seemed to fade to light red (almost pink) the last couple years they had them so make them a deep red. -
Fox HD Coming to Time Warner in Buffalo
Webster Guy replied to elcrusho's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Showed up in Rochester HD package last night, channel 1007, just in time to see Jack Bauer. -
During the regular season, there were a lot of games that the Bills had that both CBS and FOX ranked very low. We got their worst announcers, horrible camera angles due to lack of cameras, no HD, and the worst directors (thank God when Roscoe Parrish had his "two feet in" catch there was no replay of it (even though I think he caught it as ESPN showed later by blowing the picture up). Bottom line is when the Bills were low priority for Fox or CBS, the broadcasts sucked equally. Regarding yesterday, CBS did a better technical job although Greg Gumbel and Dierdorf made a few big mistakes. Both CBS and FOX have their number one crews today.

What ever shall I talk about today?

What? Are you kidding? The last time a 7 point underdog won outright was....uh....the Boise State game last week. Face it, OSU lost to a better team. -
When American Idol hits the final 16, I start watching. At that point, I don't really consider it "reality TV"- it's just a talent show with good singers.

Hi, I am a long time fantasy football owner/commish whose members want to try a keeper league. I personally don't want to, but I think I will be outvoted. If you are reading this and are in a keeper league, I would value your suggestions on how to set it up. We will have an auction league. ($200 imaginary dollars to spend) Factors I guess would include: -How many players do you keep? -How many years? -Salary increases? -How do trades work for kept players? -When do you declare your kept players? -My impression is that a keeper league keeps the top teams on top and the bottom teams on the bottom (ie lack of movement, no parity from year to year...true?) Thank you for your input, the more the merrier.... Jeff
