Freeney vs. gimpy Peters this weekend
Webster Guy replied to MattyT's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Peters signed a $15 million extension shortly after he took over for Mike Williams at right tackle. He was an undrafted PROJECT when he signed that deal, and it was good for both sides, especially Jason. That's why he signed it. Then he doesn't go to minicamps and he didn't make it to training camp either in his last year with us, finally showing up Sept. 6 after the club insisted it would not talk about a new deal until he returned, which is standard NFL procedure. Peters played poorly for the rest of his games. In the trade we got Philly's 28th pick which we used on Eric Wood. Then we bundled Philly's 4th round pick which we also got in the deal with our 3rd round pick and traded them to Dallas and moved up and grabbed Andy Levitre with Dallas' 2nd round pick. Both of those guys are team players and good NFL linemen, with a combined cap number at less than JP's. A great move by Bills. Considering what we got for him, I wish him the best. (except i despise Philly, so that's a lie) The dude was definitely a selfish player, but he gave us a good start on shoring up the interior of our line for a long time through the draft. -
Bill Polian's last four drafts
Webster Guy replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Actually Im one of the Polian supporters because of what he did here, in Carolina, and in Indy, but I will admit this is pretty compelling evidence against me. Gonzales being injury prone is hard to tell in college but this is a good point you make. While Polian has had pretty late first round draft picks because of Indy's success, drafting is truly a gamble. There were lots of other teams that liked the Maybins and the Mike Williams guys too. What burns me is the obvious whiffs like Orakpo, Ngata etc. I just don't see Polian missing on either one of those two probowlers. -
My take is that if we arent going to win a championship, the best thing for the long term health of the team is to have the highest possible pick. So that's what I want. I will forsake winning today in order to win more consistently tomorrow, and if that means winning no games, then so be it. The last time we had the number one pick in 1985 we got the best defensive end to ever play the game who led our defense to 4 superbowls. The number two pick went to Atlanta for a guy named Bill Fralic.
-
Dude you're forgetting that we have the worst defense in league. How can you judge a QB on wins and losses when you cant stop ANYONE? You need to look at how well our OFFENSE plays in the system we have in place with the personnel we have on the team and base your decision on that. Considering our tackles are below average and the interior linemen are average, then accounting for the number of non-garbage time snaps that Fitz has taken in his career, I think this guy is playing at an impressively high level. Franchise QB is an ambiguous term. Is Matt Cassel a franchise QB? The Chiefs signed him to a six-year, $62.7 million contract that includes $28 million in guaranteed money, and $40.5 million in total compensation in the first three seasons. Last year his QB rating was 69 and his team sucked. They sure based their entire franchise around the guy, does that make him a franchise QB? What about Carson Palmer? Last year was his first winning season in 4 years does he not make a franchise QB?
-
Sorry dudes but I think next year's QB draft is gonna be like last year's. One quality NFL guy like Bradford. (Luck) We need that pick and we arent gonna get it by winning games. When I watch the game I want us to win, but once it's over I'm glad for the future of this team that we lost. Im using my head not my heart here.

How do you people in Buffalo support WGR 550?
Webster Guy replied to BLZFAN4LIFE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Schopp and Bulldog are definitely negative dudes, Simon is probably the best personality for a team in shambles like ours because at least he sounds like he cares and he wants the Bills to get better and keeps conversations and topics more optimistic. Schopp is just a moody human being. Sometimes he's cool and inviting to callers and other times he rips into people for not being able to articulate a point like they should be as smooth and communicative a professional speaker as he is. That turns me off, treating slower speaking or older callers with disrespect. I don't think either one of those guys are egomaniacs, but moody guys are a strange sort (just ask BillsFan4Life). In fairness to the radio guys, how in the world could you talk 20 hours per week about our team without wanting to take your own life? I would never take that job in a million years. Its like they're in a catch 22-- Bills fans want sports radio but the team is so lackluster that there are only so many topics you can cover until you're talking about the same boring stuff over and over and over and over. Ugh. When we're competitive its gotta be a great job, but they wouldn't know. Unfortunately. -
What Happens when Ralph Wilson dies ?
Webster Guy replied to I hate the Bills !'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Ralph died a long time ago and they have a look alike plugged in for him (like the movie Dave). A look alike who couldn't get along with Bill Polian who built our championship team here, then did it in just TWO years in Carolina and finally in Indy. The owner's only job is to pick a talented GM and get out of his way. The old man did the first part but not the second. Thats why we suck. -
Rookie contracts next draft if there's a lock out
Webster Guy replied to dayman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Same thing that happened to Eli Manning, Elway etc.... It doesn't matter what the players say, the team that drafts them gets their rights. Trades follow if a player refuses to sign, but in no major professional sport can any player just chose the team they want to. Obviously. -
The REAL trade Buffalo made...
Webster Guy replied to High Mark's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Cant judge this trade until you see who we draft with that pick and whatever the conditional pick is (or who we get if we use the picks to move up for someone) Modrak's history of drafting is rough, but Nix might help mitigate that and maybe we get an impact player at that spot. Its always a mistake to pick RB's so high when your lines on both sides of the ball are in such need of upgrading. Duh. -
I appreciate the kind words from Dierdorf, but since he is announcing the game the motivation for his words sound self-serving.

The Bills are the best in the league at one thing
Webster Guy replied to LGB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would like a copy of that too. That game was blacked out, wasn't it? -
Mitchell asked to be released
Webster Guy replied to Coach Klein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Meaningless. The guy is on IR but still under contract we can do whatever we want with him. He's not taking up a roster spot. The Bills are in the drivers seat. If they want him on the team, he stays and shows up at camp next year. If they don't think he's worth the money he's due for next season they have an out right now with an injury settlement. We'll see what Gailey/Nix think of him by what happens. I always thought he was good at timing the snap and bringin pressure on inside blitzes and a decent run stopper. -
Agreed. Bell seemed like he had huge upside. But if Marshawn stays here in Buffalo and becomes a FA after the end of next season, its very likely that he'll go to a place like Oakland/SF or Atlanta or Baltimore. Then we have nothing to show. We obviously aren't going to win a championship in the next 18 months anyway so the Bills probably don't see Lynch as a long term asset. He's a tough back, but I don't think he hits the line as hard as he used to. He's still great after contact though, and I think right now we need one other team who likes his style to get an injury and approach us about a trade. This might get Green Bay motivated and get us a better deal. Its always better when there are two or more teams interested in a player. When there's only one team, the offers usually stall.

In fairness to Kelsay, most LB's can't cover tight ends. Urlacher and Briggs couldn't cover Finley either on Monday and they're two of the best playing today. But yes, his production speaks for itself, and it says he's overpaid and underperforming for sure. I can understand the Bills extending him as long as it's in line with the level of play he brings to the team, which is average at BEST. Plus he did a Celino n Barnes commercial which makes him a complete tool, so he should be docked some cash for associating the team with those low-lifes.
-
He got the Roosevelt Colvin disease. Be a dominant LB and then go suck in Boston. But ol Sammy Morris has been a great value pickup for the Patsies, it was good to see him out there still banging away last Sunday. Always liked that guy.

The Bills are being laughed at off the field too
Webster Guy replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It doesn't seem likely we will win a lot of games this year. Hopefully, in a year or two we can shut them up. "Patience Monty...Climb the ladder" -
Remember that sometimes a 3rd round pick can be traded to move up in the earlier rounds like we should have done with Patrick Willis, the best linebacker in football that we were ONE pick away from. (the one that Marv said later he wouldn't have drafted anyway) Sorry, here I go again....
-
I would agree with you if we didn't have so many other glaring needs or if Fred Jackson didn't show us last year that he can be an excellent everydown back. I would've pulled the trigger on a trade in one second if someone offered us a 2nd, or maybe even a 3rd plus a conditional pick. I think Shanahan and Belichick have shown the league that if you have a good qb and Oline then who carries the ball for you doesn't really matter.

One thing I havent heard on the radio or seen here is the biggest issue killing our passing game. Two things need to be done in order to answer this: #1 Take a stopwatch and figure out how much time Trent has when he drops back until he has to throw, or tuck it and run, or throw it away. I'd like to know what the league average is, and what our average is. #2 Watch the receivers at the game and see if they're getting separation and getting open. You can't usually see this on TV so you'd have to be at the game or have game tape. I'd like for a radio station like wgr (or heaven forbid a guy like Sully) to do some real research on something like this and give us a better idea of what the actual problem is. Some posters say our WR's suck, but how can you know if we don't look at everything. It might turn out that its only one thing and not so much the other.

They are hockey guys who have to cover football and in fairness to both of them, you could not pay me enough money to talk for hours every day about the Bills when the team is in the shape it's in. It's worse they bring in Sullivan, who admitted the other day he misses Langston Walker because he had cool stories about Cairo and he was sick of talking about football. I was thinking "Its your JOB you pessimistic hack......" These guys are all burned out from the team being boring and its hard to blame em.

Where are all the Jason Peters and Langston Walker Haters?
Webster Guy replied to PDaDdy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We got a first rounder for Peters, and with us still being a few years out from playoff contention I think it was a good move to get a young first round OL with a good attitude unlike Jason "me first" Peters. From what I hear he isn't playing up to his salary and that we got the better of that trade. And Langston is out of football I think. -
Paul Posluszny, from Conlan-esque to bust
Webster Guy replied to EasternOHBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Disagree with the gist of this post. First of all Conlan was hurt frequently during his six years with Buffalo. He had knee and achilles problems and he missed 16 full regular season games (not counting playoffs) while he was here. If you're insinuating that he was durable, I don't remember it that way. I was surprised to see this post because my brothers and I were commenting on how Poz was very active and disruptive today. He even had a nice sack where he tossed Ricky Williams aside and dropped Henne for a big play. Conlan averaged 1 sack per year in his tenure as a Bill. I understand that LB's aren't judged by sacks, just pointing it out. Im not a huge Poz fan, and it kills me to think we were one pick away from getting Patrick Willis in 2007 before the Niners grabbed him, but I think the guy played great today, and I havent seen the stats but he must've had 8 plus tackles before his injury. Like Conlan, his durability is an issue, but for a second round LB pick I think he's pretty good when healthy. Shane was more of a crushing hitter and Poz is more of a wrap-up tackler though, and I do miss having that Conlan or Leonard Smith type killer on our defense. Shane was voted NFL Defensive Rookie of the year in 1987 and I lived above his girlfriends apartment on Summer Street at the time and I got to congratulate him on it in the hallway. He was a nice guy, and the Bills were awesome then. Those were the days..... (Cue the All In The Family Theme Song...."Boy the way Glen Miller Plays.....") -
Stadium Wall vs Buffalo News/
Webster Guy replied to Webster Guy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Obviously not, because Sunday is sold out despite "nobody being pumped" I wasn't hurt by the criticism. The game is sold out and every Bills fan I know is excited. We arent Jacksonville. Buffalo loves this team, so why write an article that says the rivalry is ho hum. Silly thats all. Its JV crap.
