A Few Thoughts About The Game
Webster Guy replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Im not saying he's great, but he played a solid game against NE, that Brady pick and especially hammering Welker in the flat on 3rd down on our 6 yard line to force a field goal. Our defensive coordinator left Leodis alone on 6'4 AJ Green most of the day. Not sure what anyone expects to happen in that situation, but first of all Florence should have been assigned to him all day NOT leodis, and they should've stayed in cover two the whole game to take away the deep ball on either side of the field. Leodis is normally our 3rd CB, and probably will be 4th if Williams comes back to have a decent year. As a 4th CB and kickoff return man (not sure why they yanked him from that job) I still like the guy. -
A Few Thoughts About The Game
Webster Guy replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe Levitre should get credit but I thought McIntyre was responsible for Freddy's TD run. That guy is amazing. He screened two LB's on that play and didn't go for the sucker cut-in block, he slid through the hole, turned back toward the middle and sealed that hole off like a pro. I watch him every play he's in and wonder if we shouldn't utilize that guy more. Best FB in the game and a great special teamer too. -
Concerned about our linebackers
Webster Guy replied to Mike in Syracuse's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1. Batten is OLB and can't replace Davis. I agree that he's active and plays with a motor, but he's our 3rd OLB 2. Shep is an inexperienced ILB who coaches don't think is ready to take the job from Davis. 3. As some other poster's have pointed out, we usually play a 4-3 anyway and rarely bring a fifth rusher. 4. Dareus and Kyle have three blockers on them not four. If it were 4 that would leave Dwan or Shawne singled on a TE I think the future of this team is Moats and Batten outside, Shep and Barnett inside. Searcy at SS and Byrd at FS, Aaron Williams, Florence starting CB's. This to me seems like a very fast, hard hitting defense that can fly. I would love to see the Bills have the guts to field this team now and let them learn together. Maybe not as starters, but in games where we have a decent lead I would try my best to install my future defense. Its not like we're crushing teams with our current defensive personnel anyway.... Thats funny, i didn't see the play but I was guessing it wasn't a clean pass rush where he beat his man and got to the QB. Figured it was something like QB error or missed assignment which it sounds like it was..... The fact that the Jets put that guy on the field is testament to how desperate they are at the LB spot. I hope he plays against us. We'll activate Roscoe to block him out of the backfield.... -
Who's the big Moats fan around here?
Webster Guy replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You and a lot of people keep saying this. Where has he been valuable? Has he made ONE significant play in three games? Sacks are overrated but I'm still amazed at how many people defend Merriman. Maybe I'm missing something. All I see is a big name and a non-factor in regular season games. I've been posting all year that Moats will be the best pass rusher we have on this team if they let him play the game. He can be a 10 sack guy and set the edge better than Merriman. It reminds of when we first got Freddy Jackson and he was a practice squad guy but everytime he hit the field he did something. It was like "what are the coaches NOT seeing from this guy that they're keeping him benched" Not saying Moats is there yet, but we need to give him a chance. I think Wanny wanted him inside but the film on Merriman is showing that he's a full step slower than he used to be and Moats is our best option as his backup. -
Well if you really listen then you heard him pick the Bills to win outright against the Patriots when the line was 9.5 How much higher on a team can you get. I think it was the biggest spread of the week at the time.

Whoever came up with this term Franchise QB in the first place? What is it based on? Here's what I THINK people mean: A QB that's good enough so that you don't draft a replacement for him. So Fitz is obviously our franchise QB because we passed on every college QB in the nation for the most critical position on the team (except Cam). I agree with Gailey, its an ambiguous overused term with a million definitions. I'll say this: You don't buy stocks when they're at their peak and you don't sign players when they're hot (or coaches Ralph you dumbass signing Jauron after a win streak) I LOVE Fitz, but if Ochocinco doesn't drop that pass, and the Oakland safety that was covering Chandler didn't let that pass go literally between his arms, we are 1-2 right now with our only win coming from KC, one of the worst in the league. I'm actually an optimist, just pointing out that everyone needs to chill about signing Fitz and Freddy to long term deals right now. They're both making about $2 million a year and we'll retain both of them long term later in the season after things have shaken out and we drop a few games and don't have to pay insane money for these guys. Lord knows we have the cap room, but I think.. a decent showing this year means this offseason the Bills are going to make a major splash in free agency cause the old man will see that we only need a few more pieces to be elite. Either way, what a fun season so far. Fun for the fans and the players alike.

I love how people say yes or no to a trade without knowing what they would get in return... "Hey man, do you want to sell your car?" "Sell MY car? No way I LOVE that car, plus I just paid $25,000 for it" "I'll give you $40,000, I really need a car and I can't wait til next year to get one...." Do you want to sell your car now? If your team appears to be able to make a playoff run and you have players with possible high trade value that aren't helping you win games (heck this guy can barely get on the field), you're foolish not to put feelers out to determine their trade value with teams and pull the trigger if you think it can make you better Nix's first draft class is looking questionable right now, I think this might be an out for him if he traded for a player. If he traded for a pick then he'd probably look foolish because he picked a runner we don't need (yet anyway) so high in the draft and would have to settle for a 2nd round pick or less right now. Thats my guess, but I have no idea and neither does anyone else unless he's shopped right? He appears to be an average NFL back with great speed but below average vision, instincts and pass protection. His value as a returner (he broke one for us last year) has diminished due to the NFL's new rules of basically eliminating the kickoff return this year.

A difference between Chan and Dick
Webster Guy replied to Wagon Circler's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought another big difference was when Buffalo had the ball with a minute left in the first half on their own 10 yard line. Jauron, and even Levy, would have tried to run the clock out. They come out firing and get a field goal before half. Nice job Chan! -
I noticed in the post game interview the guy is really jacked. Looks like a strong safety body. Fitz loves him, so that's enough for me but I also thought he lacked speed in that end around run where got caught from behind by a DE. I love the call by Chan and I know Jones has good speed but maybe leave that one to Spiller or even Namaan next time..... On a side note, my personal pet peeve is these WR numbers all being in the teens. David Nelson is the only WR with a number in the 80's it seems. I'm not normally a traditionalist but the teen numbers are for the attention guys like Keyshawn. Gimme back my 80's receivers ! We still have 87 and 89 open, and somehow we gave #83 to a practice squad TE. Maybe they gave the numbering assignment to Ralph and he's still working on it.

No Dareus No Bills win vs Pats no 3-0
Webster Guy replied to 1B4IDie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And just think if Stevie Johnson catches that pass against the Steelers, we draft 8th and Dareus is playing for someone else. Love the irony. The kid is only getting better. He was having some troubles (cramping?) few times during the game, and I was surprised that Edwards was taking out both he and Kyle at the same for some significant time, but did anyone notice 6'6 350 pound DT rookie Kellen Heard with some inspired play? That dude can bullrush too. Our DLinemen are all animals. -
Belichick's sportsmanship (or lack their-of)
Webster Guy replied to Buffalo Beeeews's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You're right about the timeout not being Belichick's fault, but post was more about his personality, which is pretty dull. He was a losing head coach before Brady and probably will be after Brady. Watching that TV special on him, I liked how he included his son in his job, even making gametime notes with him, throwing the ball etc. I disliked him a lot less after seeing him as good father, but I also got the feeling that when it comes to his players, he lacks the strong relationships that great personable coaches have with their players. Seemed kinda distant and shy. Not my type of guy in that respect. He's gotta be feeling some heat from the fans, I think it's been 6 years now since they've won a playoff game. Regular season he's strong but eventually that's going to wear thin if you lose every post season game. I'd love for us to beat them in the playoffs this year. -
Of all former players giving the Bills props...
Webster Guy replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Disagree with Howie that Merriman is playing well. Doubt he has watched much Buffalo ball. The thing I think Fitz is really improving at is his pocket mobility. I don't mean the take off and run (which he's very good at if he has to) , I mean the Drew Brees, Big Ben elusiveness and ability to sense pressure and slide within the pocket enough to give yourself and your WR's that extra second that means everything to an NFL offense. There are tons of guys more athletic (like Losman, Rob Johnson etc) but they couldn't sense pressure and never developed the knack for playing in the pocket like Fitz is demonstrating. It's a great sign. Remember that the guy really doesn't have that much NFL experience yet and he's improving every week. -
I hate myself for starting this thread....
Webster Guy replied to DUFF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I disagree. First of all the Giants sacked Brady 5 times in that superbowl and they had almost a dozen knockdowns on top of that. They got loads of pressure with 4. Our defense had one pressure all day today on Brady that I can recall, and they were one Ochocinco drop away from 400 plus passing yards and a loss. We didn't do anything to his rhythm at all, but we did clog passing lanes pretty well which is a plus with the non-mobile qb's like Brady. I was impressed with the restraint we showed in not blitzing even though we couldn't get to the guy because he would've burned us worse than he already was. The Jets lost tonite to Oakland because they're impatient on defense and Edwards called a great game for us in holding back. We need ONE elite pass rusher on this team. (Moats is back healthy again?) Now that we're 3 and 0 those Maybin and Spiller first round picks are even more frustrating because we're closer than we thought to being really good. Best win for Buffalo in many many years today. Keep it up guys ! -
Who needs high draft picks?
Webster Guy replied to onceagain778's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I definitely agree that Chan's offense takes advantage of those guys and his play calling isn't predictable. He earned MY respect, that's for sure. Joe Pendry he isn't. -
***The OFFICIAL I've sinned against my fanhood thread ***
Webster Guy replied to Scrappy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I ADMIT i WAS WRONG...... When I told my brothers FIVE years ago that Freddy Jackson, the guy from the Europe League seems to be turning out pretty good. I was wrong because he turned out to be more than pretty good-- flat out amazing, and the most productive back we've had since Thurman, which includes the 3 first round RB's (Mcgahee, lynch, Spiller) Right now he leads the league in rushing, and I've gotta say if I had to choose one running back in the NFL to get 4 yards to save my kids, it would be Fred Jackson And not only is he a productive runner, but the dude never gets hurt. Warrior. -
Merriman injured his arm during intros Sunday
Webster Guy replied to billieve79's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
George Edwards is mis-using Merriman. He should be a 3rd down pass rusher only. When he's rested he can still bring it, but his body is nowhere near full game shape right now. It's laughable. That's why he kicked ass in preseason, taking 6 or 8 snaps a night. That's why he almost sacked Campbell on the last play of the game when he came in rested, Bills rushed only three, Merriman was double teamed AND clearly held (practically tackled) and still almost got a sack on the hail mary pass. I don't think he's made one single tackle on a runner yet this year, and we've given up a lot of our long runs to the outside on his side. Watch the direction NE runs the majority of their run plays. Off tackle left side. Put a TE on Barnett and your best blocking WR singled out wide left and now you're running away from our strengths and right at our weakness. On first and second down we should shift Kelsay over to Merrimans spot so our line is Dwan, Dareus, Kyle and Kelsay. If we get third down and four or more, in comes Shawne, out goes Dwan, and Kelsay slides back to his side. Their LT is facing a new, fresh Merriman and we start getting sacks from the guy. Otherwise, give me Moats or Batten full time and give them a chance to develop. -
Parrrish slows this offense down
Webster Guy replied to Estelle Getty's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed. Give Spiller the punt returns and Roscoe's WR duties, I think you make your team better and you develop CJ some more. The guy was the first running back in the world drafted last year, he needs to get more playing time and experience. Freddy is making that tough, so we need to look at other ways to get Spiller the ball. Roscoe is fun to watch, but he's not the future of the team. -
A Few Thoughts About The Game
Webster Guy replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
- I disagree on Merriman Bill. He is a situational specialist at best. The guy doesn't have an every down motor anymore, and anyone who says that isn't watching the same game I am. I would rather see an OLB like Batten or Moats play in his spot and get some much needed reps. Carrington is too big to play OLB. If I had the call I would play Spencer as a true DE, Davis as MLB and Batten Kelsay OLB. Call me crazy I just think that's our best 7. - For Wilson to get burned on that last TD was probably good for two reasons: First of all it got our offense back on the field with over three minutes left instead of 30 seconds or something too low to score a td on. Secondly, its good training for the Patriots game when we play cover two. George won't make that same mistake again, I think he just underestimated that rookie's speed and let him get behind him. I agree with earlier comments, that one wasn't on McKelvin. There were only two receivers on the field, he knew he had deep help. - Searcy's first non special teams play of his life and he picks the game winner in the home opener. Pretty nice experience for the 4th rounder. Knock it down next time buddy, it's a team game. - Fred Jackson does things on his runs that nobody in this league is doing right now. That little swim move on the screen where he sort of twisted around Seymour and turned it upfield. Seriously Freddie you are amazing to watch. You embarrassed a lot of Raiders defenders today. - Chan was so cool under pressure and in charge of the game right down to the end. Very focused and he even seemed relaxed. He trusts his QB and he's very hard to predict. We have never had a game coach like him in Buffalo ever. I was surprised he kicked the field goal with 6 inches to go in the first half there, that seemed Jauron-like to me, and I think it frustrates your Oline when you don't show faith in them in a situation like that, but he's doing a great job overall for sure. Anyone seen RaiderJoe today? -
Raider Joe I'm giving you credit for battling for your team dude. I disagree with most of your stuff, but at the end of Sunday I guess we'll know who gets bragging rights. Just make sure you show up on the board after the game, its only fair either way. Are the Bills your second team or do you just hit the message boards of upcoming teams and hammer on em?
-
Totally different positions and jobs on the defense, kinda hard to compare the two but definitely liked how Barnett came back from whiffing on that long Jamal Charles run (also on Shawne's side but he was double teamed, that tackle is Barnett's to make there) I remember thinking, oh crap I thought Barnett had better lateral speed. But it seemed like the only mistake he made all day. Really strong coverage guy, will be interesting to watch on TE Boss this sunday.
-
Hey Raider Joe, I thought I was an optimist until I started reading your posts. "Yeah, well our starting three receivers (who arent exactly studs to begin with) are probably out, but it's no big deal" I was laughing out loud at that one. Yeah your crappy quarterback will do fine with three new guys coming off a short week and a trip out east at our season opener where he wont be able to hear. Good luck Campbell you're gonna need it. Huff being hurt is a non-factor anyway, he's been overrated his entire life. Don't worry, we too have a meddling dinosaur owner and just let a few overrated first rounders walk this year (Whitner n Maybin) Sorry man but your two tight end set isn't really that scary. You are a one dimensional offense with a good backfield. I hope McFadden's shoulder is okay so you Raiders fans won't be blaming that on why you lose this week. Or maybe Seymour's ankle, you could always use that as an excuse. I'm not saying we're a great team, but we're definitely better than you guys. Seems like your whole team got hurt last week. Don't you guys condition in the offseason ?

Oh No! Solomon Wilcots this week!

Pay Fred Jackson Mr Overdoff PLEASE ?
Webster Guy replied to Bufcomments's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Plus Freddy is more durable than Grant, maybe the biggest plus of all. If you're not on the field........... -
Yeah but Cowherd picked the Bills to beat KC so I'm giving him credit for Billievin'
-
Take the season off and get better Marcus. You're still a beast, and we'll have room for you when you get back next year. Think about Freddy Jackson and how long it took him to get rolling in the NFL, you'll come back with a vengeance for our playoff run next year !
