Your point about Fitz changing his mechanics for the worse on the longer throws was never more evident than the last throw of the Bills Jets game. Unbelievably, Stevie Johnson was open AGAIN after his wide open drop, and Fitz dropped hhis front shoulder and stepped into the throw like he was swinging an axe. The ball sailed high and behind and the game was over. Keep in mind he hit Stevie AND Brad Smith with very accurate throws on 2 plays earlier and they couldn't make the catch, but your observation is very legitimate. The biggest question facing Bills management now is can Fitz make the throws with coaching and mechanics improvement, or do we draft another QB this year. History has shown that the true pocket passing QB's that can sling the long ball with accuracy are the ones that win championships. Our QB has all the qualities of a winner but that one. Could we take JP Losman's arm and sew it on Fitzy?

Way too early to tell From the game I saw the other night he looked like a typical rookie NFL QB. He didn't have happy feet or seem to worry about the sack though. Gruden and Jaws seemed to think he was starting to see the field a little better (granted, he threw a pick like 2 plays later) He's a smart guy, great size and arm. He was probably a little bit of a reach where Jax took him but as far as judging him with this certainty that he was a bad pick, gimme a break. I don't have to list the hundreds of Aikman's and Mannings that had weak NFL starts do I?

Actually if YOU'VE been watching the games you would see that Dareus isn't being double teamed every play at all, particularly since Washington. Go watch the Miami or both Jets games and count the snaps. My son noticed it first and we started keeping track. Heck he's not even a starter on our team lately which baffles me. I love the pick, glad he's a Bill and agree that he misses KW, but don't slam other posters until u hit the DVR beforehand. Big 99 isn't playing close to the way he was in the early season. He'll be a monster next year.

You forgot Kellen Heard. 6'6' 350 and he can play. I didn't know anything about the rookie before the draft but he plays low and he seems quick for being the biggest guy on the field. I think he gives them the option to be the space eating middleman in the 3-4 with Kyle and Dareus on either side. As much as Kelsay's pass rushing lacks, the guy is experienced in both schemes and would provide depth. I think Merriman hurts the team by taking a roster spot for a player we could develop. Even as a 3rd down specialist his body can't take the game anymore. I wanted him to work as much as every Bills fan but he needs to go. My reasoning is that he'll win the job in camp because he looks great in bursts when he's healthy in August but he'll breakdown in the early season and now your 2nd best guy has taken about 500 less reps than he would have otherwise. It hurt the team this year and likely would again. I think we are one pass rusher and CB away from having a pretty good defense in either scheme.

Luxury Pick, Bust, Average at best
Webster Guy replied to Homey D. Clown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We already had two stud running back on our team in Lynch and Freddy. We took a third one at 9 overall despite critical position needs elsewhere. That's exactly the definition of a luxury pick. I don't care if he runs for 200 yards a game, we still can't stop anybody on defense and we should've used his pick for someone like Pierre-Paul or even a stud center like Pouncey. Those guys were sitting there and we take another RB. If CJ could only rush the passer..... -
I thought that holding call wasn't a good one by the ref. He blocks the LB, the guy spins which made it look a little suspect but he didn't hold him any more than any other NFL block.

Please Admit This Season Was Disappointing
Webster Guy replied to MacAddict104's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah no kidding..... We should have a Stadium Wall Lame-Fan Elimination Law here on the message board. If you say you're done being a Bills Fan more than once, then you're banned for a year. NO SOUP ! ONE YEAR ! -
Anyone with NFL sunday ticket, can you answer this:
Webster Guy replied to ThurmasThoman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just a sidenote, the redzone channel will still show the bills game if theyre inside the 20's even if its blacked out. -
George Edwards might be gone after all
Webster Guy replied to John Cocktosten's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nix and Chan's decision to retain or fire Edwards has nothing to do with Edward's options out there. They either want the guy or he's gone, but he's not going to leave an NFL DC job when he can only improve his defense from here on out. My guess is they'll let him ride out the season and let him go in January. -
excellent points. everyone saw the Denver Jets game and that was Millers best game by far. If they'd have played the Redskins Toronto game on Monday night the whole country would have been saying they should have drafted big 99. I love the guy, he's leveled out a little the past three road games starting with Dallas. They handled him pretty well with single "ish" blocking in the middle and so did Miami. I use that term "singleish" because offensive guards always seem to bounce blocks around and help the center. If the draft were tomorrow I would take him again at three.

Spiller's crucial flaw
Webster Guy replied to SageAgainstTheMachine's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thats a great point. You're always like "oh allllmost got by him there and he would've been gone" Hate to say it but the homerun hitters don't do as well in NFL as the 6 yard hard hitting guys like Freddy. The other thing about CJ is he doesn't have great game speed. Everyone keeps talking about his blazing speed but I don't see it. He's the perfect college back, but....... -
Two mistakes. Both game changing.

Davis had some playing time today. Not sure about Shep, he had a great penetration on that safety last week in Miami. He impressed Gailey and company during their Senior Bowl coaching stint, and he was supposed to be good in coverage. Looks slow but he's a rookie maybe he doesn't have the head for the game yet, its pretty complex at ILB in the pros. Morrison will probably see more time this season now that he's healthy. The guy was a stud once upon a time.

If Spiller fails this week...
Webster Guy replied to John Cocktosten's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can't understand why there is a group of fans that think Spiller running the ball was important when we had the leading rusher in the league in our backfield who still wasn't getting enough touches a game because our defense could never get off the field. Its like saying "Hey Thurman is having an MVP year, but we really need to get that Kenneth Davis involved more." Stop worrying about where people get drafted. Once they're on the team its all equal. CJ needs holes to run through like any RB. That means we'll need to get the passing game going so they don't stack the box, which means Fitz will need time to throw something other than a quick slant. Jets play tons of man coverage because they have the corners to do it, so expect more long ball attempts and hope we hit on a few early or they'll just focus on CJ and he's going to have a long day. Lastly, every receiver needs to keep an eye on the blitz and adjust their routes if the jets come after Fitz. A lot of times young receivers forget to do this fundamental check and they're out running a deep route while they're QB needed to get rid of the ball two seconds ago and he's on his back because his WR's didn't recognize the blitz. -
Why isn't Bell starting at LT?
Webster Guy replied to Chris in Syracuse's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He's very injury prone, shoulder and knee since he's been in the league. I think what you're seeing is management realizing we aren't a playoff team after all, and switching back into the player development mode like everybody thought this year was going to be. Guys like Hairston, Searcy, Shep, Donald Jones (now Aiken), Spiller, Troupe, Batten, Moats, Carrington, Aaron Williams. Maybe not the best guys at their spot but all young and promising and getting their chance to learn with real bullets flying around. Even Fitz doesn't have that many league starts. We're still young. If you have questionable starters, go with the newer guys. -
No but i've been around enough people in their nineties to know that they struggle with clarity, they lose almost all of their short term memory, and they become easily confused. It's not a personal attack on the guy, just a fact of life. Any decent corporation with a board of directors would have retired Ralph 20 years ago. There's a reason for that, and you're seeing it now....

Yesterday we got embarrassed on offense because we have no backup center and no receivers getting open. We have a great RB, TE, FB and a decent QB. Hangartner would've stepped in an done a fine job with the QB he's snapped to a thousand times. Levitre would've played guard where he belongs and you would have seen a different game. So we let Evans go for the same amount of money we signed Brad Smith for (about $7 mil for the next two years). If you could switch the two right now, would you? I know I would, I know Fitz would too. All you Evans detractors that say he was washed up can babble all you want, the guy got open and had great hands. Speaking of Brad Smith, if you think you're disappointed in his production now, wait until he fumbles a kickoff return which I guarantee he will if he continues to swing the ball around when he runs like that. I am benching Smith and Spiller immediately and putting Mckelvin back there to return kicks. CJ for punts. I'm not going to say Ralph is cheap because I honestly don't think he's with it enough to care anymore, but depth isn't just about draft picks and free agency pickups, it's about keeping your veterans who shine when you need leadership and experience. You can't play a full season without key injuries, and if your only plan is hope nobody gets hurt, you're bound to end up where we are right now-- lost. Does anybody think the 4th round pick we got for Evans is going to help us? How many 4th round picks do we have out there now helping us? I'm not usually a negative poster but I can't sit here and listen to our management say depth is a problem and then watch them funnel our experienced guys out the back door to save money. Depth is a problem because of your shortsightedness and failure to value the continuity and contributions of our veteran players. You made this bed Nix.

Buddy's "Building Through The Draft Idea"
Webster Guy replied to HuSeYiN1978's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For the last 2.5 games our offense has been horrible. You'll see a better defense from us if the offense gets rolling again...... -
I will admit i thought Cam was the next Jamarcus Russel. I was praying he would be gone at 3. The dude looks as good as any rookie qb ever has that I can remember. I posted that my favorite guy was Dalton. He's looking great so far. AJ Green doesnt hurt.
-
Yeah i remember when he said that. Willis was (and is) as close to an nfl guarantee as Ngata was. Levy passed on one and wldve passed on the other. He was never a talent scout or gm material. Watching 4th rounder Dumerville and Von Miller shred that same Jets Oline we couldnt get ONE pressure on a few weeks ago was bittersweet. Our defense has been bad since Wade left.
-
Not at all. Read the post again. He's saying its interesting that Von is such a force already and complimenting his effectiveness. The only complaint was yours....
-
It was absolutely intentional unless he closed his eyes or something. I watched the replay, the dude should be fined. Helping a player up afterward is meaningless, sometimes done to make themselves look good after they know they just did something they shouldn't. You didn't see him helping up Fitz on his other clean sack did you? Hits like that aren't only illegal but they can be game changing because they can concuss the brain and disorient the QB. Some people think Trent Edwards was never the same EVER after that hit against the Cards. $15,000 is a joke for Ware. My guess is he doesn't pay it from his own pocket anyway.
-
Agreed. Now that's a new one "Talley singlehandedly lost us the super bowl." Hmmmm. So if Norwood hits the kick then he singlehandedly WINS it for us? Talley was, by all accounts one of the best LB's we've ever had. Good in coverage, good pass rusher, high motor, intelligent, prepared, durable, locker room leader, field leader, signal caller. If anything he was underrated. I can see the Conlan argument a little because he was drafted high and wasn't durable but definitely not Talley.

Fitz's Inaccuracy A Problem Going Forward?
Webster Guy replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Rodgers is way better than Brady this year. Not even close. I've watched every Green Bay game and all but one Pats game. I think Brady and Manning are the best I've ever seen since Elway/Marino, but Tom is about to go for his sixth year straight without winning a single playoff game. He's not the same as he was.
