I can't imagine we would get any worse if you slide Wanny into the DC job and give Talley the vacated LB's coach spot. Could have huge upside. Wanny might not want the job though with our personnel. Like Chan said, there is no quick fix or we would have already done it. We've been trying to get pass rushers but without them you're defense is bound to fail. Likewise, when you get ten sacks you get a shutout and your whole team looks amazing..... We can win with zero sacks per game but we need good pressure without blitzing because we don't have the CB's to handle man coverage like the Jets can.

4th and Short - - LONG BOMB
Webster Guy replied to miserable_fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Then scramble. A much higher percentage than a long shot to an inexperienced receiver with average height and hands. -
Its Ralphs money We are lower in team salary than lots of teams Stevie is a pretty good receiver that gels with out newly signed qb We have major needs elsewhere to fill through the draft We'll sign him.

Bellichick vulgar remark after beating jets
Webster Guy replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah well I think Bill is a little embarassed that he has the best QB of all time and hasn't won a playoff game in 5 years. I'd be bitter too. Although if that quote was said anywhere BUT the locker room it reinforces what a classless geek he is. By the way nobody said the Jets have the best defense in the league anyway Bill, including Rex. -
Big 99 had his worst game yesterday by far. One nice play but otherwise silenced by single blocking which isn't like him. I think he was either sick or has some type of injury. The guy isn't a quitter or a complainer so that's all I can imagine it was. Thought he would have his best game of the year against the rookie center and that Dallas O-line. Chan/Edwards didn't like what they saw either based on his limited playing time. I hope everything is OK with him. His first Miami game is coming up we're gonna need him.

Frustrating. Jones is a great YAC guy but definitely questionable ball skills. I heard WR is a decent free agent position this offseason, with some experienced guys unrestricted. This no-name stuff is wearing thin, we need help and I don't mean roscoe and easley.

You start by bringing in a new defensive coordinator. I'm sure Nix and Gailey have already identified candidates. You let the new DC get the next month and half experience with the talent we have and make personnel needs decisions at the end of the season. Being able to install a few different packages from the new DC would help analyze what we have and what we don't. We have good interior linemen on both sides of the ball. We have a good QB and RB, and some pretty good receivers, including TE. We have great safeties and an excellent OLB. Every team wants a better pass rush, but if you take out the Redskins games, we literally have two or three sacks and minimal pressures all year, it's obvious we need pass rushing help. It's not that easy to get though, and even a first round pick doesn't mean you're getting it. Even all-pro Orakpo did nothing against us, single blocked up in Toronto, and he's a stud. Just because we are in desperate need of an upgrade doesn't mean we're going to be able to get it. Free agency is tricky too, just ask Dan Snyder, who might have the worst team in the league right now with the highest paid coach and every free agent money can buy. Still, I would rather see the team focus on a true DE that can rush. Maybe Carrington is the guy that can do it. Maybe Moats or Batten will emerge this year. We need to free someone up and move them around like Ryan did with Demarcus Ware today. A pass rush is what causes chaos, throws off timing and makes your dbacks shine. It starts with a Defensive Coordinator that can do better than the one we have though. That's the easiest call to make and the sooner they do it the better...

Wilson named one of cheapest owners in NFL history
Webster Guy replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Big Pat, winfield and fletcher were affordable and all had many pro bowl years left when we cheaped out on em. Some dudes you hafta let walk like Clements and probably Peters. Love the meatloaf comment PTR. I never know what she's DOING back there..... -
Nice post San Jose. I completely agree with your analysis. The other thing that the two second release does is require perfect accuracy on the long ball because its thrown higher so the receiver has time to get to it. The one he threw to SJ over Revis was great, but its difficult to pull off. Our offense needs a shot in the arm. Bad for 6 quarters now. Cant wait to see what gailey has planned for tmrw.....

I don't think it's achilles unless someone has confirmed it.... Why didn't he see a specialist like three months ago? Come on people.... this was our best player last year, struggling with a foot injury all year and he hasn't seen the best guy in the world yet? Lets get on the ball. If its IR then that opens a roster spot, (go get the best special teamer available and sit Brad Smith for the kickoff coverage teams please) if it's surgery then do it tomorrow and get him ready for summer training camp, if it's a 'wait and see how he responds to treatment and maybe he can take a numbing shot or something' if we need him playoff time then that's okay too, but we seem to be slow and secretive about everything. What is this the Donahoe days all over again? Get Kyle on your team website and have him explain exactly what's happening, how it feels and the options. two minute clip, end the confusion...

We missed Lee Evans big time today
Webster Guy replied to Webster Guy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So you're saying if Lee was in Buffalo he would've had the same ankle injury happen to him that did down in Baltimore and he wouldn't be playing for us either. Now there's some logic... -
Say what you want about Donald Jones being fast and strong and more aggressive than Lee or whatever, but today we really missed him. If you're playing Buffalo next week you do exactly what the Jets did on defense: sit on the routes, disrupt timing, flood the short routes with safeties and LB's to take away the underneath stuff and get some tips/picks. You don't need a great pass rush against us because with Fitz the ball is gone so fast anyway, just stout run support, which they did with average Dlinemen today. Maybe you get beat deep once or twice (in their case the 50 yarder to Stevie), but overall our west coast approach isn't scaring anybody. Donald Jones was never open today. I understand it's his first game in awhile, but giving up one of the best deep threats in the game and replacing him with a relatively inexperienced, undrafted guy isn't something you can just do and not pay for. Some games this year it wasn't a factor, but today we paid for it. I hope that 4th round pick next year pans out for us. I still think that if Nix had known we were going to make a playoff run this year he wouldn't have given up Lee.

Fred is just as fast or faster than Spiller with regard to game speed. He hits the hole stronger, and he definitely pass protects better. (Against a blitzing team this is huge) If we are going to do a two back set, I would rather have Corey the FB in the there any day of the week, and you bet that Fitz and Freddy would agree. Chan obviously does. So do you want Spiller involved because he was a high draft pick and you feel cheated or do you really think he's better than a situational WR at this point? Also, I disagree with your assessment that the Jets have strong linebackers. They are weak at LB. Read the Jets boards, it's a real concern of theirs. Bart Scott is playing on reputation from 5 years ago when he was a stud, and Harris and Co aren't that good. OLB is the same way. They were desperate enough to put Maybin on the field, that should be telling you something. Maybe I'm wrong, but we'll see Sunday. The Jets are average against the run at best, we're gonna score mid 20's on them.
-
Speaking of ridiculous, allow me to illuminate Maybin the con-man's most recent quotes: 1. “I’ve never been the kind of guy to do my talking in the media. I do my talking on Sundays on the field." um...Okay Maybin, this is EXACTLY the opposite of what is true. You've done more talking and posturing off the field that anybody in the history of the NFL. This dude has less than 20 career sacks IN ALL OF COLLEGE AND PRO's COMBINED, and he's supposed to be a pass rush specialist. What you should be saying is you do very little talking on the field and all of it OFF the field. Gimme a break. 2. (from the same article) “Making a statement, that’s for somebody who’s concerned only about their own success...." (he goes on to imply that he's a team guy) Um....Okay Maybin, you had less than two full years college experience and you held out the ENTIRE training camp of your rookie year because you thought you deserved more money. Which we all know you didn't because you couldn't even make the team. What you should be saying is that you put yourself ahead of the team you selfish liar. I was done posting on Maybin a long time ago but this recent article makes me laugh out loud at what a joke this dude is. I pray to god they play him the whole game because we'll all be watching you "do your talking on the field" as you get your 230lb frame blown upfield every play and we run right at the spot you don't have the ability to occupy. What a punk. I dare you to make ONE play that is significant to the outcome of a game in the NFL. Just ONE.

Keys to a Bills Victory Sunday
Webster Guy replied to VirginiaMike's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If I am Rex Ryan my gameplan is to stop F.Jax He knows Revis will contain Stevie, and our other receivers are decent but so is the Jets secondary. So it's 8 in the box on first down until you start getting burned. Our WR's and TE's need to be attentive to the blitzing, and cut their routes short if they see the pressure so Fitz can unload quickly, which he's great at doing. (also the reason Maybin will be a non-factor, the guy is a 6 second pass rusher at best) Jets weakness this year has been slow offensive starts and linebacker play. They're missing two Dlinemen to injury as well. I think we might see Chan using less spread offense that usual, and more 2 receiver/2 TE sets, or using TE/FB stuff and take it smashmouth for awhile. When they start cheating for the run, Fitz makes the adjustments and slings it. Bills 20 Jets 16 DONT FORGET TO WEAR WHITE EVERYBODY !!! -
Mangold has a hurt ankle. Has anyone heard how bad it is? If he can't go, or if he's not playing up to par because of it, Sanchez and co. are in for a long day.

Not sure I agree. Gruden sure thought he was an A lister. I thought he was the best interview on his draft thing he does every year. If I remember, he had Mallet, Cam, Gabbert and Dalton. The kid was so nice and down to earth, loves the game, and really meant it when he said he didn't care where he went but just wanted a chance to compete for the starting job. Watching the film breakdown with Coach Gruden, the kid is really accurate and very instinctive in the pocket, feeling pressure, good footwork, proper adjustments. All the mock's I saw had him going in the first round. Looks like he's deserving of that so far..... ps i never admit this out loud, but i hate every team except the Bills.....
-
He combined for one stop that I saw, but today was all about the front four for our defense. Shep had limited snaps anyway, but our Dline was so dominant that the LB's weren't going to post big numbers. Even Barnett was quiet and he's usually in on everything. Today was about Spencer, Dareus, Edwards, Heard, Carrington, Troupe, Kelsay, Moats and OMG EVEN A KIRK MORRISON sack.

The Dareus Sack at 2:48 4thQ
Webster Guy replied to Webster Guy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Of all the great defensive plays out there today, this to me is the most impressive. Dareus at 6'4 about 320lbs taking the proper angle and running down Beck for the sack on the sideline. Great effort and speed for the big fella. These are the "hustle" types of plays that guys like Kyle Williams and other pro bowlers make. He's so fast for his size. I always thought he was more of a power, space eating 0-technique guy but he could play end the way he moves. The dude is just learning too. I'm getting a 99 jersey. http://www.buffalobills.com/media-center/videos/#?id=e39037f8-0003-4fa4-bcc3-fac574b89d93 -

New Game: Pick the Sullivan Column
Webster Guy replied to Dr. K's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I waffle on Sully all the time. I like him on 550 radio for sure, because he knows five times as much as Mike n Bulldog. The biggest issue I have with him is how he kept going off on NOBODY wanting the Bills head coach job in the league when they hired Chan. First of all, that's a ridiculous insinuation and everybody knows that top coordinators in the league and most college HC's will go anywhere for a head job in the NFL, especially with the parity in the league these days. (we're already in the top 10 in NFL power ranking in little more than one full season) It was like "well, Cowher or Shanahan don't want the job so it must be that nobody else does either", and then to make matters worse he kept pushing his stupid point at the presser with Buddy Nix and Sully really showed what a misinformed jackass he can be. Lost a lot of respect for him at that point. In his defense, someone needs to be critical of the organization. We simply don't have an owner who is lucid enough to lay out the specifics of certain areas of the GM's job that need improvement, so someone needs to be the voice of the fans. He's not my type of fan, the negative guy, but he serves a purpose and will admit when he's wrong. He wants the Bills to do well. -
Observations about the Redskins
Webster Guy replied to BillsObserver's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nice post thx. Im a skins hater for sure. I think Kelsay and Moats have big days sunday along with Terrence dominating gaffney and co. Glad to put Merriman experiment behind us, get faster and quicker to the QB. Go Bills! -
I heard the game isn't sold out as of noon wednesday, the deadline is getting pretty tight here. We're 3 hours and 170 miles from Toronto in Rochester (unless you have a really fast boat) Make that 4 hours plus because of the border delays. It would seem we are way past the blackout zone with regard to driving distance/travel time, but not direct distance if they ignore Lake Ontario. Does anybody know?
-
Everyone saw this coming, it's not a surprise. Dude ravaged his body with steroids and played above the level his body could handle. I wonder if he stayed natural and played for the long haul how he would be doing today. What did surprise me is how well Shawne seemed to fit in with this team. I thought he was more of a meathead and "ME" guy than he turned out to be. He liked it here and the team liked him too. Maybe he can still help Moats and Batten with film and technique stuff for the rest of the year. Gotta admit for those few preseason games it was nice to see him dominate, but you could tell it was only a matter of time til IR came calling.

You're saying that almost 30,000 canooks come to Buffalo to see the games? I've heard Brandon say Rochester represents about 20k and I believe that. So following your number that leaves about 20k seats left for Buffalo residents? Just because the border is packed after the game doesn't mean there are 30,000 people in from Canada. It's not even half that.
