Spiller in a full season (projected)
Webster Guy replied to Kaenon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Interesting stuff. I think Fitz likes to audible to throws as much as possible because of his confidence in his receivers, this might skew the totals a little bit with regard to run pass ratio's FJax is a solid pass protector as well, and the bigger backs tend to wear on the opposing defenses as the game goes on if they're pounders like Freddy is. That's two immeasurable's that aren't Spiller's strengths. CJ is perfect for his role as a supplement to Fred, and a replacement if he gets hurt. He learned a lot this year, got better each week like a lot of our young guys did. Shep, Dareus, Rogers, Hagan, etc. Next year we could have two 1000 yard backs. For the record, I think Chan called another good game today. He was attacking, unpredictable at times and did the best he could with the patched up offensive personnel we have out there. He deserves to be back next year, I'm sure he will be. -
I think Choice, Hagan and Rogers all did well for us over the last month. Rogers was a late round rookie who looks like he will get on the field more and more next year. This Hagan kid seems like he has tons of potential. Gets good separation, good hands, fiesty dude on the field. I think he can make the team next year, seems like he has speed to be a vertical threat too. Choice runs hard and low, I like his chances for next year. Injuries hurt your team, but they have an upside, letting you try out new talent in live game situations. We need a pass rusher and one more linebacker that can fly around and make plays like Barnett and Scott were doing out there today.

I Have Questions - Please Give Me Answers !!!
Webster Guy replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed. Someone tell me one play he made all year that made a difference in a game. I don't think he even had one pressure when he played. He looked slow and old. Remember what steroids do to your body people, he may be in his 20's still but his body isn't. It can never hurt to have him in camp and see how he competes, but not at the expense of giving someone a shot who we know can still be playing in December next year and helping us win. Preseason snaps are very important to player development, I'd hate to see Merriman win the job and do what he did last year for us in the regular season which was nothing then he goes on IR. Personally I think Moats will win the OLB spot next year in camp. He never had a shot at it this year because they moved him inside until Shawne went out. -
I think Chan is one of the best play callers in the league. He's a great game coach, almost perfect clock management all year, has developed strong chemistry with his relatively inexperienced QB and is respected by his players and around the league. He addressed his defensive weakness by bringing in Wanny to help with the defense and as assistant HC. He's honest with media and players alike. Sorry guys but you can't coach a pass rush or will your LB's to be faster and more aggressive. Our QB slumped badly midseason, we had no Evans, Roscoe, Easley and Jones, and lost Fred Jax and Kyle Williams, our two best players to injury, then our stud center went on IR, and our emerging TE has battled injuries since October. We need more talent, not more coaching. Bad coaching is when you have 5 pro-bowlers on your team and have a losing record. We don't have one.

If The Front Office Does Not Sign Stevie
Webster Guy replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They will sign stevie. They are spending NOTHING at the WR position (I'm assuming they'll cut Roscoe because of durability issues every year) and have a mediocre QB who needs targets. He will test free agency and the Bills will sign him for around $7M a year. I don't think they'll tag him, it's not like we're on the brink of making a run here. -
A Baltimore Perspective On Lee Evans !!
Webster Guy replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Evans got hurt. It was bad enough to put him on IR but they are a playoff team and hoped he might get back into game shape by now. He obviously hasn't. I think you are all assuming he would have had the same injury if he stayed here which is puzzling. We haven't drafted with the 4th round pick yet so how can anyone say it was a good trade. What if our pick gets cut like a lot of 4th rounders do? Is it still a good trade? Do you like seeing Brad Smith run go routes? I don't. I hated the trade, and felt that our SEVEN game losing streak had something to do with the fact that we didn't have guys getting open. The first Miami game was a joke, Fitz had literally nobody open, and obviously the way all of our receivers went down we limped along the rest of the year. Combine that with the Fitz slump and there goes our offense. Not many 4th rounders are out there helping their team win. It thought it was too low and would've kept Lee for the rest of his contract. -
Taking the Best Player Available is BS in my opinion. It's applying an exact method to something completely subjective. So following BPA logic, should Carolina and Green Bay draft a QB if he's the next best player on their board and a stud offensive lineman is 2nd when it comes time for them to pick? yeah right. You consider team needs first then look to the board. And how do you rank a LT vs a WR and look me in the eye and tell me with any confidence that you know one is better than the other.

I'm addicted to the most disappointing team in football. I've tried wearing the patch (other team's stickers that is, trying to like a team to watch in the post season once in awhile) Doesn't work. I've tried alternative drug therapy (drinking a few extra beers to ease the pain of constant losing seasons) Didn't work. I go to the support groups (the stadium wall message board, the men's room at the Ralph) and admit I have a problem. I've called Ralph Cheap. I drink the "its a new year" Kool Aid every year during training camp. I tell my kids to pick another team. I offer up my tickets for underprivileged kids. I even retired my custom Buffalo Bills Santa Suit until we can get to a playoff game. Quitting smoking was a lot easier boys......

He's playing faster, less hesitant. Our oLine can run block pretty well, especially against the Indy/Denver type defenses that have speed ends. CJ is still learning, and I think his focus going into next year should be to minimize those negative yard plays. If the hole isn't there, hit it low and hard and take the zero gain, but don't put us in 2nd down and 14 or 3rd down and 12's because we struggle with the long 3rd down conversions. Freddy is the master of this, and he can learn from watching him too. Spiller seems to be getting a little more slippery each week with regard to breaking tackles, I hope it keeps up. We have a solid backfield right now and I like Choice too, although he got smoked twice today in pass protection.

Are you kidding me, for a 7th round pick from Richmond? I love this kid. He's the same size as Leodis but he's a gamer. Whoever said he doesn't have good coverage skills? The word on him in college was he's very good at reading the qb's and getting picks. He's obviously a good return guy but his knack for being around the ball on defense is impressive. He reminds me of Greer. He will be the 3rd corner next year on our team. I love when rookies look like they belong as soon as they take the field in the NFL. It's rare, especially for coverage guys. Once in awhile you need some luck drafting these late round guys. Kyle, Stevie, FJax, undrafted guys like Nelson. I predict this guy becomes our newest late round gem.

Losing Rusty Jones was brutal management on our part. Urlacher specifically thanked Rusty in his MVP interview the following year. Gregg Williams always said he was the best at his job in the NFL, and DJ gave him the onion. Fool.
-
exactly. mostly garbage time sacks and from desperate qb's holding the ball too long. zero run support. not sure if he'll be out of the league in two years but he's definitely a niche player. he'll hang on for backup roles and get league minimum like he is now. I was laughing in his interview when he said 'well now the Bills have to face ME twice a year'. Oh geez, not YOU Maybin, you game changing animal. The guy is so full of himself. He owes me a jersey.....

haha good one. that's classic

Question about the "Post-Ralph" Bills
Webster Guy replied to Bronc24's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought this was obvious: Because the Bills fans have continued to buy tickets and contribute tax funds for all of those 40 years despite a mediocre product. If he sells the team for $500+ million without a stipulation to keep the team in the city that supported it and continues to do so, then his legacy will be ruined. As it should be. Like the Steelers owner Rooney used to say, "The fans are your business partners, give them the respect and credit they deserve, and always make decisions that are a win for both sides" -
Will Fred Jackson get a contract extension?
Webster Guy replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Okay did someone compare CJ Spiller to MVP Marshall Faulk ? Haha oh dear Lord look what all this losing has done to our fans intelligence..... I don't agree with the notion that CJ can't handle 20 touches a game because he's a little undersized. Why is everyone harping on that? The thing that worries me about Spiller is that he isn't very good at making guys miss and doesn't seem to have great vision. I will give him credit for a very nice broken tackle on his TD run, embarrassed the Dolphins guy, think it was the SS. Great play calling and offensive line work on both of those consecutive runs. The same thing holds true for FJax as it does for Stevie, these guys are very solid players and good teammates. The NFL requires depth to win and we have tons of financial room to sign our guys. The team needs to come first, and if we had severe cap restrictions and it would hurt us somewhere else, then I'd say consider letting him play it out, maybe tag him at the end of next year if he lights it up again like he did this year. The only way I would consider not restructuring his contract is if a trade made sense for the team. I would shop Freddie in the offseason to see what his market value is in order to make the best decision for the team, but my guess is his age and the broken leg might hurt his value. I hope he stays with us for the rest of his career. -
Stevie Johnson's Facebook entry
Webster Guy replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Unless we're going to spend 25 million in free agency next year, why in the world would anyone NOT want to re-sign our best receiver? The money is there, our team needs 5 solid WR's for the offense we run and some of you fans would rather give Ralph your money than someone who is fun to watch and a top 25 NFL wideout. This deal will get done. Guaranteed. In case some of you haven't noticed, we have our backup qb, street players and our inexperienced RB playing WR for our team. Roscoe and Easley are huge question marks next year. Jones seems to be injury prone as well. When people say let SJ walk you might as well type "I have no understanding of our squad or how far under the average NFL team we are in gross player salaries...." -
Predicting the Draft Order
Webster Guy replied to Johnny Hammersticks's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bills need to sign Stevie and Draft DE Coples. He's a freak. A true big pass rushing 270 lb defensive end. Dude is violent. You can get free agency WR's, LB's, CB's etc. But the true stud DE's are like QB's. If you draft a good one you keep him. Bills fans will not tolerate another year of no pass rush, and I'm not banking on 'Merriman the Brittle' to help my team next year. i think we will lose out the season and draft the first stud DE we've had since number 78. -
Name an elite high draft pick that got drafted by a good team.

Perhaps we should stop calling it a "lack of depth"
Webster Guy replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed. You're not following the Bills if you think Evans was traded to improve the team. It was to improve the bottom line. Which is unfortunate because we basically traded Lee's salary for Brad Smith's salary, and now Brad the QB is out there running routes as our starting WR. A huge downgrade on an offense that didn't have much room to go down. Veteran WR's are important to have at times like these when your QB is struggling badly. Gets back to the original point about recycling players, which was a very solid observation. This is a team treading water. Expect 500 seasons at best until we spend what other teams are spending, and that involves paying some guys a little more than you think they're worth. Funny that last year's superbowl champs and the best team in the NFL is owned by shareholders, with a dynamic board of directors that make informed decisions and actively re-invest in their team. Proactive, planned guidance and thoughtful team direction, all in a market smaller than ours and look what they've acccomplished. We have a 93 year old confused guy from Detroit. Is anyone surprised? -
THIS is proof that coaching matters in the NFL
Webster Guy replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you look at history and use rankings as your guide, there is nobody close to what Wade Philips has done in the NFL defensively in the last 15 years. Everywhere the guy goes he fixes the defense quickly and makes them respectable from opening day. As far as our current defense goes, it will be interesting to see this debate unfold about us having enough talent defensively but its just poor coaching. I'm not as sold as a lot of you seem, I think we don't have any pass rushing talent at all and schemes only go so far. My draft prediction is DE in round 1 (not a hybrid tweener but a 270 lb guy like Coples or Ingram) and then CB in round 2. Most of these pressing defenses seem to play a cover 1 and trust their corners in man coverage. Which means you can send 5 pass rushers if you want. When you show a five man front and the QB has no idea how many you're going to send, combined with a noisy home crowd, you pretty much eliminate the ability to audible. Gotta have the coverage guys though or you are toast. Aaron Williams needs to have a big year next season and we need another new guy to groom for the #2. Maybe it's Rogers, he reminds me of Greer his first year. Picking solid NFL corners from the college pool is tough business though. (McKelvin 1st round, Terrence 4th round...hmmmm) -
The bills have the worst defense I have ever seen
Webster Guy replied to berndogg's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We had no credible pass rush except Wash game. Merriman was a non-factor in everything but a few preseason snaps. -
4th round pick for Evans looks like a steal
Webster Guy replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Evans has been hurt all year and we haven't chosen a 4th round pick yet. Impossible to judge this trade for a few more years. I wish Lee was on our team, and so do a lot of the other guys, including our slumping QB. I would have kept him for depth and leadership. We need both at the position. Neither Brad Smith nor Spiller have NFL WR experience, and have less reps at the position than most college seniors and boy does it show with their footwork and hands. I honestly thought your post was a joke until I read the replies. This is what most quality teams do with their vets that are signed but declining slightly. Let him come to training camp and compete for the job. Trust your coaching staff to put the best individuals in the best position to help the team. If he can't help the team, then he gets traded or cut. We run 5 wides a lot, and lots of quick underneath stuff that requires lots of sure handed receivers. With the exception of Nelson, we don't have any. Lee was only going to make $3m this year. Would he be sitting on the bench right now? Based on Nix's drafting history, the odds are strong that his late 4th round pick will be. -
Fitz Has Possibly Had A Broken Rib Since Toronto?
Webster Guy replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He's 6'2 225. Size is fine. His mechanics and accuracy are slumping badly. He can read defenses, he has heart, he can scramble. I agree that his ribs are hurting him still from that hit. They take a month to stop hurting if they're cracked. -
I personally like Chan Gailey as our head coach. I think he's an excellent game coach, the players love the guy, he understands the offensive side of the ball better than most HC's in the league. He's honest too which is refreshing and I think something the players respect. I'm not sure anybody else out there in the NFL could do more with the talent we have. To your point about the GM, it looks like Barnett, Chandler and Pears are good FA signings but his drafting is looking very weak right now. We have invested heavily in defense and still can't get off the field. I'm frustrated with the picks and the player development like everyone, but I think (and hope) Chan sticks around for a few more years because he's solid. There is a huge difference on team impact/learning curve between replacing a head coach and a front office guy. Most players say the continuity factor is very important for the team. I wouldn't care if Nix got fired tomorrow, and everybody but Freddie would probably agree with me (nix has a promise to fulfill there.) Don't lump Chan in with Nix, though. Completely different jobs, objectives and criteria to judge them on.

exactly. He was an MVP candidate before the injury. Pass protects, team player, great attitude, leading the league in rushing and all purpose yards.
