You are hereby assessed a fine for mentioning Maybin's name. I actually think the Jets will cut him again so maybe we could have him back here to laugh at some more.

And thus begins the offseason hilarity here at the Stadium Wall. Franchise a guy with a year left on his contract. Hmmmm. Buddy may be from the south, but he's not THAT dumb. I think you'll see a five year deal that has a $5-6 mil bonus and the rest will heavily incentive based due to his age. Stuff like pro bowl bonuses, games played, total yards from scrimmage, roster bonus (in case we cut him) etc... They'll call it a $30M contract and he'll probably get half over the next few years. It seems like running backs over 30 start to decline fairly quickly, the Bills can't be stupid no matter how much everyone loves the guy.... Plus Ralph is _______

It definitely was strange that in such a clutch situation this play never got reviewed, but it looks like he was a few inches from getting that second foot down and winning the game for his team. I feel sorry for the guy, it would have been great to see him in a superbowl. http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/bs-sp-ravens-side-evans-0123-20120122,0,7431921.story

Good point. They should have a factor built into sacks that takes this into account. Sacks in obvious passing situations vs normal 4 man rush type or something like that. Look at how bad Indy's defense was without Peyton getting them ahead most of the time....
-
Not surprised after his refusal to go zone and double cover Vernon Davis when everyone in the nation knew Alex Smith was going to throw to him every play on that last series. Gregg's ego has always been in his way......

I dont think Mularkey is going to take Coples, I think he falls to us and we take him over Upshaw. Nix says he likes size on a pass rusher, a guy that can disrupt passing lanes even if he can't get in. He says their number one priority is qb pressure and Coples is rated as the 2012 NFL Draft's top 4-3 defensive end and has great size at 6-foot-6. I think he will be there and I think we will take him.

Dre Kirkpatrick Busted For Marijuana Possession
Webster Guy replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This could hurt the Bills if he was otherwise going to be picked in the first 9 slots before we draft. Unless we take the guy, which I hope we don't. It would suck if whoever was going to draft him decided to take our pass rusher instead. 20 grams is probably 200 bucks worth or so. That's what you call a bad risk/reward ratio son..... Instead of agents these young guys need mentors to sit them down after the last game of the college season with a simple list of THINGS YOU CANT DO and THINGS THAT ARE OK TO DO before the draft. Yikes..... -
Yeah, they won because of their defense. You've got it right.
-
Oh so if your offense is good then that makes your strong safety more talented. Got it. Cam Newton must suck then because his defense couldn't stop anyone all year. I've never understood the mentality that if you win then nothing else matters for football discussion sake. This isn't a thread about who is happy or who won, it's about a player's specific actions on the field. Are you a chick by any chance or just a Jets fan?

Sort of. He was a losing, fired coach before Brady. Last night was his first playoff win in 5 years. Can't draft. His defense is ranked as one of the lowest in the league. He has a top 5 all time QB on his team that they got by pure luck. If that makes him a great coach that knows how to win then you're right... Personally I think any coach in the league would be winning with Brady, or Elway, Montana, Manning etc
-
Someone explain to me how your defense gives up over 500 yards and over 30 points in a home playoff game after a bye week and that makes you a great defense or strong safety? Donte played the same way he did for us last year. Great hitter, poor ball skills. Whit was born three inches in height and 30 lbs away from being a great linebacker. I was glad Vernon Davis scored at the end there because Donte would have been credited with losing the game for them on the Graham play. It was embarrassing on a national stage in the biggest game of his pro career. He had some nice plays and some bad ones like most safeties do against the aggressive Drew Brees. And just for the record people, I predicted on this message board that the Broncos would lose by 30 and Whitner would get smoked by Graham all day. Just sayin.....

I watched him every play of the BCS game because i know he's got a shot at being a Bill. He never really aggressively rushed the passer because they were playing contain on LSU most of the time. After the game he called it something like a soft rush or something like that, indicating that they didn't want to pull the Maybin and go way upfield against a very fast running qb or he would eat them up. So he only showed quickness once he identified the play. I love his build, he looks like a small Dareus. Heavy wide lower body, thick torso. Maybe that's the Bama build or something. For some reason I think he would make a better ILB in the NFL, and 10th overall is a little early to take someone like that unless its a Patrick Willis or an Urlacher type middleman. I think we need a pass rush specialist with that early pick, and he'll be gone by round 2 obviously. Sorry Dareus, I don't think your buddy is coming to Buff.

This draft was definitely a solid one for us. We needed it after the 2010 one. As far as Shep goes, by the middle of next year we will really get to see what we have in this kid. Plays like the one where he knifed through the Miami line for a safety are great to see from someone his rookie year. Ironically, his draft profile had him listed as a great coverage guy but not a big hitter, but from what I saw this year it was kind of the opposite. NFL coaches across the league say that the lockout and shortened offseason training stuff really hurt the rookies from a development standpoint, so next year will be a big step for some of these guys like Williams and Shep. Looking at some of the playoff teams this year like Giants, Bengals, Broncos, we are not that far away from being able to put away teams like that. I honestly think Nix will go for a DE and pass rushing LB in the first three rounds. I like this team we have. Players, coaches, qb. Will be an interesting season next year for sure.

What can we learn from the Broncos?
Webster Guy replied to covac23's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Chicago game was complete luck favoring Denver. I don't think they make the playoffs if they lost that game. Denver looked horrible all game and as time was running out Marion Barber ran out of bounds on a play that he shouldn't even have been carrying the ball because a kneeldown would have iced it for the Bears. I don't blame him for the subsequent OT fumble, that stuff happens, but the going out of bounds is something a high school player wouldn't have done. Poor coaching as well to even put a guy like Barber in that situation. Denver has two pass rushers and two solid wideouts and that's about it. They're going to lose by 30 against NE. -
Chan is the most genuine honest HC I have ever seen. The only legitimate grudge Whitner could have with him is that Chan felt George Wilson, a converted wide receiver, was a better SS than Donte and he expressed that to Nix. Hey Donte, new coaches don't care where you're drafted they judge you on talent alone. Oh and Wilson was having a pro bowl year and changed a few games for us this year before he got injured. In a few games he was our best player on defense, making plays all over the field. You're a good hitter Whit, but you have no ball skills and that's half the game when you play in a real division like we do.

Buddy Nix press conference today @11am
Webster Guy replied to Buftex's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I listened to the entire thing. Here's what I got: 1. Nix said Ralph has never said no to him regarding anything he wants to do, including spending. Ralph has disagreed but never said he couldn't do something. 2. I think he's going to draft a offensive tackle in the third or 4th round. 3. Pass rusher top priority. He commented on size, likes the 6-4 and taller guys. 4. Doesn't sound like they're going to re-sign Roscoe because he's never finished a full NFL season. He alluded to the same thing with Bell at LT. I don't think they'll pay for either one of those guys next year. 5. He seemed to think Fitz's midseason slump was from losing his WR's and not having enough weapons. He talked about adding a big receiver. Likes Donald Jones a lot but you can tell he's frustrated with injured dudes. Easley too. He mentioned Easley's strength and bad luck getting on the field. 6. He was asked about Chandler and said they'd like to keep him. 7. Thinks we will take a big step next year with one more solid draft like last year. Commented that our rookies (hairston, searcy, shep, dareus and aaron W) all got solid experience this year, and CJ got better as well. -
Polian Firing May Indicate Colts Draft Intentions
Webster Guy replied to K-9's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I completely agree. Pretty poor draft, personnel development and FA pickups by Polian over the past several years was uncovered by absence of Manning. The team was built around one QB with a decade in the league, my guess is that Irsay warned of this happening in the past and Polian still put all his eggs in one basket. The Colts will draft Luck either way, there is too much uncertainty with Manning's injury vs the certainty that Luck can win in the NFL. The team is built for a pocket passing spread offense. I've never seen a better fit for a rookie to step into. Draft Luck, sit him for a year if Manning heals and can play. If he's winning and playing well, then you can always trade Luck for a load of picks and probably a stud player or two while you're at it. Imagine if they trade the number one and Manning can't return. It would be the worst draft blunder of all time. -
Screw The Defense In Round One
Webster Guy replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Our scouting department needs to sit with our new DC and choose the best pass rushing person in the nation. Don't care if it's LB or DE or what stupid scheme we use. There are so many situational substitutions and hybrid looks with todays NFL defenses it's silly, but at the end of the day you have to bring pressure with 4 guys and we have 2 great ones, a bunch of average ones and whoever we draft this year. Nix had a good draft last year, he needs to have one more and this first pick must be a homerun. Picking Dareus at 3 didn't take any scouting talent, he was the obvious choice. This year it's no so obvious. The Jets and Miami are average teams and very beatable, its time to climb. Show me the freakin' baby Nix. -
Buddy Nix to retire after 2012 draft?
Webster Guy replied to Jdragon2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Our last draft was very solid, Barnett and Chandler excellent FA pickups as well. Nix's first year was Marvish but if we have another draft like last year and add two more solid FA's I am happy. -
Too small, too weak, too selfish (his camp holdout was a joke. Maybe he needed to clean the steroids out of his system that he used to add 30 pounds for the combine) You know, the weight that he lost right after the draft and miraculously can't add now because "my metabolism is too fast" according to him.... con man. Sorry but I don't wish him well at all because I think he misrepresented himself to my favorite team in all of sports and set us back a full year in the draft. I'm not a conspiracy guy but I'm not an idiot either, that dude was juicing for the combine, which is when he rose in the draft boards and edged out Orakpo on our board--A legitimate pro bowl pass rusher that we now have to burn our 1st round pick on THIS year and will be lucky if we get someone as good as big Brian. I was dying laughing when he was on Rome saying "now the Bills have to face ME twice a year......" the guy actually thinks he's legitimate. Yikes

Deion Branch and Lee Evans
Webster Guy replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Baltimore isn't gonna cut Evans he was hurt all year. He didn't just go there and lose his skills or his desire to play. He's always been well conditioned and worked hard. Took pride in his game. Very durable (played every game his entire career at Buffalo except for 3 his last year) You need a guy with a gun to throw to Lee because he lives on the deep ball. That's why he could pull of a 1300 yard season with Losman and why he's not a great fit with Fitzy. -
43 defense and a possible 1st rd. pick
Webster Guy replied to Cheddar's Dad's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If we draft a 230 lb guy to beat NFL tackles then we deserve another losing season. -
Jerry are you out there? Your column sucked.
Webster Guy replied to Original Byrd Man's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What Jerry doesn't understand (among other things)is that there are behavior clauses put in many NFL contracts these days. The Bills will have one with Stevie when they resign him and the problem goes away or he gets fined heavily and/or suspended without pay. In fact, I would bet right now that he is the LAST member of the Bills who would ever get a celebration penalty again. And I hope the rest of the league looks at him as a character issue guy so the offers aren't too aggressive. Chan should never have stood up for Stevie saying he's a good guy in his postgame interview. He should have said no comment on the incident until I meet with him personally. We lost 5 out of 6 games in our division this year, we can't let any talent walk. Nobody gets away unless we cut 'em in camp or get a solid trade.
