Here's what The Athletic thinks the Bills should do at deadline
Nephilim17 replied to Dan Darragh's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'll take a WR1B and or a DT over linebacker. -
After nine games, where do you think the Bills end up this season?
Nephilim17 replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
Funny how many of us thought the Vegas season-win total of 10.5 was way too low. Of course, injuries are a factor but it won't be shocking to see the Bills go under that. Glad I didn't let me my homerism prompt me into betting $1,000 on that as, at the time, I was very, very confident we'd win 11 or more games. -
I don't wish injury on almost any NFL player, but a player who strikes a pregnant woman in the face and stomach (and later is investigated for breaking the arm of a three-year old child) is a POS and deserves injury, jail time and anything else bad that happens behind bars or on the streets. I like Tua; I despise Hill. So this is not a Dolphin thing. It's a POS thing.

Besides Anger What is on Your Menu for Thursday Night’s Game?
Nephilim17 replied to HIT BY SPIKES's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm thinking about a large and spicy serving of self destruction: If we don't get it together, I want it to fall apart — horrifically — so changes are made. I don't want to just tread water and be a decent team but not a great one. That will ensure the status quo. Be great or blow it up. Nothing in between. -
Bills now Vegas betting favorites to land Derrick Henry
Nephilim17 replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm a functional alcoholic, not a GM. But I'd be pretty stoked to land both Henry and Hopkins this year. Yes, it's a one-season rental for Henry (perhaps he'd resign with us) and Hopkins is a 2-year rental, but do you honestly not believe those two players would no transform this offense? Right now it's all on DIggs most games. Hopkins and Henry change that instantly. -

If I'm reading this right, Hopkins has a dead cap figure of over $11 million in 2023 and over $7.8 million in 2024. Nothing to sneeze at. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/tennessee-titans/deandre-hopkins-12307/ But if the Titan's were game I'd pull the trigger for a 2nd and 3rd/4th... Not sure if that would be enough for them... -

That's pretty damn interesting, Henry and Hopkins... So what would you give up for that? I'd say, given that Henry appears to be an FA next year and Hopkins seems to have a 2024 year (but the Titans have to eat a lot of dead cap) and I could be WAY off base, but I'd give up... a 2nd, a 3rd, Davis (not sure if he holds value). Or... A 2nd, and Cook. Just off the top of my head. Don't want to lose a 1st but those two guys would make us very dangerous. In theory. -
I'm not sure; the answer eludes me. Seriously, nice post by the OP. We're just pulling your leg.

Would he put us over the top? No. But only a fool would say we wouldn't be a better team. If the cap hit and compensation are low I wouldn't be opposed to it. But yes, a 1B receiver would be ideal — but is that feasible? -
Is Gabe Davis a trade candidate?
Nephilim17 replied to transplantbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
As long as Davis himself is not responsible for holding onto and delivering said footballs... -
Very refreshing and surprising. It dispels the old cliched response that players are only focused on one game at a time and don't look ahead on the schedule. It also sets up some very high expectations that, if they are not met, will result in tough questions and answers It dispels the meaningless myth that they need to win every game. That is so abstract that it actually means nothing. There is room for error, and Von acknowledges that, but he's also acknowledging that the margin for error is almost razor thin. Very good to hear. This should be entertaining, at the very least, no matter which way it plays out.

If they're doing his wrist, can they fix his hands while they're there? I kid. Mostly.

One could make a compelling argument that the last three games are very close to a collapse. A loss this week to Tampa, and I think the pitchforks will be out — and for good reason.

I only saw the second half but was pleasantly surprised to learn from the Cover 1 video that 50.7% of his yardage was YAC. We don't have a lot of players who do that, especially with shorter routes. I said before that by the end of 2024 he will displace Knox as our number 1 TE; but that prediction may have to be revised to happen in 2023.

SNF-Dolphins @ Eagles (Keep the Bills stuff out of here, please!)

Is it just me or does Hurts look a lot like Evander Holyfield, and a lot older than he is? -

As bad as I feel about earlier, it feels very good to see the Phins losing by a couple of TDs late in the game. God, I hate this team this year. -
Thanks for that but that was pre-Allen and I don't think with Tyrod that anyone expected a deep playoff run in 2016.
-
Is there a recent example of a team like the Bills firing a coordinator mid-season? And by that I mean with a winning record and expectations of a deep playoff run? And an example where that mid-season coordinator change led to a championship? Not being sarcastic here, I'd like to know if that's happened recently and is a precedent.

The math is not, as you suggest, totally obvius. But the fact that Diggs is 11th in the NFL in first read targets suggests, to me at least, that Diggs is usually the first read. Also, he's far and away our best target so I would be surprised if Diggs is not the first read the majority of the time. That said, outside of the stats, the eye test tells us Josh doesn't always spread the ball around enough. Not every game but some games he locks onto Steph too much. I think it's a trust issue. When this offense can consistently spread the ball around to multiple targets, it will be very, very hard to stop.
-
Thanks for that. This seems to blow up the narrative that the ball is forced to Diggs too much. Interesting about Kincaid vs. Knox in terms of catch rate. That does support the narrative that Knox is not a consistent catcher. Just a hunch, but by the end of 2024 Kincaid will have displaced Knox as the number one TE.

I don't want to make any of those judgments at this point but I am very, very pleasantly surprised that our second and first-year linebackers are doing well. I no longer think the starting LBs will be a playoff-run killer. And that's a lot to say given 95% of this board was ready to crucify Beane for these two third-round picks.

I've been listening to the One Bills Live show, and talking to AJ, Chis used the word "repertoire" several times and pronounced it like this every time: Reh-pe-twah I wanted to smack Chris' bald head with all my might. He thinks he's being sophisticated but he's being a smack-worthy fool. Sorry, had to vent. Go to 4:56 for the first of many such offenses. https://www.buffalobills.com/video/a-j-epenesa-defensive-line-dominant-in-leading-the-nfl-in-sacks

Are people really that unhappy with our 4-2 Bills?
Nephilim17 replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall
Buddhist philosophy says unfulfilled desire is the root of suffering. So, as our expectations have risen significantly since the time of FItz and Edwards — yet they are unfulfilled — your thinking makes sense. At least to me and Buddhists. -
I don't think many here have said the McDermott is responsible for Josh's success, exactly, but the team's culture shift, and the defensive success. Who has said McDermott made Josh a great QB? The question many debate is this: Are the Bills better off with a proven offensive coach who can lead not just the team but Allen — and thus preclude the revolving door of OCs we will have if we sustain offensive success which will lead to OCs getting head coach jobs. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's the more prevalent question here. I'm sure some head coaches could do a better job with Allen. That may or may not come at the expense of our "culture" and defensive success. If we have an early and embarrassing playoff exit this year, I would not cry if we moved in another coaching direction though I doubt that would happen this offseason as Terry trusts McDermott and may give him a longer leash than many, or even most, will like.
