Wouldn't it be amazing if... we get Franklin and he turns out to be one of the best WRs in the class? After the combine crap-show, after all the drama and the trading down? Added bonus: Worthy becomes a track-star JAG in the NFL. Not saying either will happen but wouldn't it be sweet? And Beane is totally vindicated.

OP, that trick question was very tricky!

Rumor: Bills trying aggressively to move up for a WR in round one

Do You Like What Beane Did in the First Round?
Nephilim17 replied to Gugny's topic in The Stadium Wall
Was fine with trade to KC — you couldn't stop them taking Worthy unless you take a player who's not on your board there. But I was really sad missing out on Legette. -
I had the same message as the OP at the time we traded to KC. Then Carolina took Legette, the guy I wanted, and I drove immediately to my 24-hour Pitchforks R Us location. Seriously, you likely couldn't stop KC from getting Worthy unless you pick him yourself and deviate from your draft board. Deviating from your draft board to try to stop your rival is nuts. If we would've done than, what if they would have taken Legette or Mitchell? What if Worthy busts but Legette or Mitchell doesn't? You can't do that. You must stick to your board. But... it was brought up on WGR this morning: Beane's ability to draft WRs is in question. When so many other teams took guys in the first and Beane trades out, he's seeing guys vastly different from many other teams, including the champs. That's not reassuring. Beane could still be right, but he's positioning himself to be smarter than many other teams here and needs to vindicate himself with a good WR pick sometime soon. My other concern: what is Josh thinking? That question is related to who we pick at WR. If we do not take a WR in the second in a class lauded as the best in years I honestly fear that will piss off Josh significantly. But that hasn't happened... yet.

Live 2024 NFL Draft thread - Round 1 (Do NOT tip the Bills pick)
Nephilim17 replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall
Very disappointed that Legette is gone. But I have to hope Beane knows more than me and some Englishman who stays up till 5 am to watch the draft. Seriously, who knows. It may work. And if it backfires, many of us will get what we want: a reset in the front office. -
Live 2024 NFL Draft thread - Round 1 (Do NOT tip the Bills pick)

KC was GOING TO GET SPEED WR ANYWAY: Worthy, Legette, or Mitchell. So all this drama is a little much. Who knows if any of those three guys will be good let alone great. And they were going to get one of them. They need a WR and they want speed. We couldn't stop them from taking one and they might have taken Worthy without the trade anyways. Relax. -

Sounds and is nuts but I guess Beane really wants that 5th contract year for a first rounder. -

So what doest the chart say a trade-up to 23 is worth? -

I would have supported any move up because I'm a Bills fan but I'm glad the top 3 are gone and we have our top picks this year and next. -
Happy Birthday, OP! I feel pretty good about today. Yes, the Bills could draft a Whitner, but lots of options for WR and possibly Latu makes me feel about 75% confident we'll be good today.

Gimme Five draft contest - WR edition- WIN REAL BILLS $$

Don't remember hearing that. Not a lot of young receivers can help in the run game. That's yet another reason to wait at 28 or even trade down a few spots (maybe; not sure if it's worth the risk) for Legette. I wouldn't be opposed to a small move up for Thomas but keeping our picks and getting Legette is what I'm hoping for.

Marino made some interesting points: Negative: A lot of third-round value, in his estimation and he put in the work, but no third round pick. Positive: The distribution of talent aligns a lot with Bills needs. Board-meltdown: He doesn't like a lot of edge rushers after the first round so given the depth of WR in this class, he can see the reasoning behind taking an edge guy in the first and WR later. Here is his board. It's notable not for particular names but to see the depth, or lack thereof, at certain positions and what kind of depth of round value for each position. If you have a hard time reading it, dark blue is top of round 1, light blue is bottom half of round one, green is round 2, yellow is round 3, orange round 4/5 and red is round 6/7.

Lance Zierlein: Bills should draft 2 WR in the first 3 rounds
Nephilim17 replied to Beck Water's topic in The Stadium Wall
Samuels will be a more consistent player than Davis. -
If we need a boundary receiver and McConkey, as great as he is, has short arms and doesn't have the size to play outside, what is the reason for adding yet another slot specialist to this team? We have Shakir, Kincaid and Samuels with a lot of slot experience. If McConkey can't be a viable outside guy, why even bother? Are you gonna rest Shakir to play McConkey? And if so, who is the other outside guy? I know a lot of you think he can play outside but he's small with short arms and that does not bode well.

What's the downside to Legette saying the Panthers said they'll take him at 33 if he's there? He's drumming up interest in the market and trying to dispel rumors he will slide in the second. And as people have said, he wants another team to take him. I don't understand why that's dumb, unless it's going against the code of "you don't share what teams tell you to the media," if that's a thing. But if my career and life were on the line, I'd be looking out for my best interests, not some random bad team's best interests.

Throw and complete? Zero. I've been playing pickup football 25 years and I suck at throwing. It's has to be genetic after all this time. That said, I think I could catch a couple balls. Not survive at hit by anyone over 170 lb (and even then, who knows) but I know I could catch a few balls I've seen very occasionally dropped in the NFL. EDIT: Zone coverage. I know I couldn't beat any NFL corner in man at any time.

Latavius Murray has stem cell therapy in South America
Nephilim17 replied to WotAGuy's topic in The Stadium Wall
Beyond the stem cell stuff, Murray has chosen to raise his family in the Buffalo area and is still here even thought he's not signed with the Bills. He also said, at first, his new role last year of just blocking was "frustrating" but he learned to embrace it and would come back. “I grew. I truly grew mentally from that,” he said. “It’s easy for me to sit here and be in my feelings and feel a certain way. I had to look at a friend of mine -- and he and I have never talked about this -- I look at a Jet McKinnon and from the outside looking in, Jet was running the ball and now man, he only goes in on third down. And he’s been with the Kansas City Chiefs and he has two Super Bowl rings. “So me as an observer I’m looking back and saying man, this guy humbled himself to be a part of something bigger. I took from that. He’s a little bit younger than me (31), but I took from that. Because I want what he has.” For an 11th year vet to still be growing and evolving is pretty cool. Good guy. -
A visual argument against trading down & for trading up
Nephilim17 replied to transplantbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Sorry to belabor the point, but are you suggesting we don't make the playoffs without Diggs? And with his salary freed up to pay any number of other players? If so, I think that's ridiculous. If I have the wrong take, apologies, and I'll go back to my vodka and Joy Division. -

Nephilim17 replied to transplantbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
My point is if Diggs wasn't there, everyone does not simply get bumped up from 4 to 3, from 3 to 2 and 2 to 1. Without Diggs 2022 salary on the books Beane would've had another player in Digg's place. I maintain another player with the same or less money could have helped us make the playoffs. And get quite possibly get more than Digg's 8 targets, 3 receptions and 21 yards in our final playoff game that year. -

Nephilim17 replied to transplantbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yes, yes, I think we would have made the playoffs with a "lesser' player who got 900 or 1000 yards a year instead of Steph's 1200, 1400, 1200 yard seasons. Josh would have spread the ball around more. See 2023 second half of the season as proof. I'm not saying if you totally take Steph away with the remaining players we make the playoffs; but without his very large salary an additional WR would have taken his place. Let's see what we do this year. I don't think we miss Steph all that much. I think a lot of guy will have inflated stats with Josh if they are starting.
