12/8/24 Game 14 GAMEDAY! Bills vs Rams Game day Thread
Sierra Foothills replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Bills had a fast, white wide receiver back in the early 80's, Mike Mosley. He ran a 4.28 at the combine but a doctor botched his knee surgery and derailed his career. -
Should Bills Draft a Back-up QB? Who?

As a relevant point of comparison, the backup QB in Kansas City is Carson Wentz. -

Yeah but you're talking about the 4th QB on the Bills... Josh, Trubisky, and White, then Buechele. An organization's approach to the QB position is not the same for every team. A team with a superstar quarterback in his prime will take a different approach than a team that doesn't have a clear number one. Things like if you're a playoff team or not come into play too. Also whether you are an ascending team or a rebuilding team. These things all come into play so rules that might apply to one team might not apply to another. -

A lot of the above comments are not differentiating between the backup quarterback and the number 3 quarterback. They are two different positions. -

Also it would be a bit of a Michigan (State) reunion for Keon and I know that would just warm @boyst's heart. -
Should Bills Draft a Back-up QB? Who?

1) Yes, if Josh misses appreciable time, the season can go up in smoke. 2) But if Josh were to miss "only" 3-5 games then the Bills are in "damage control mode" trying to preserve standings/playoff seeding until he returns. 3) Acknowledging #3 above you're probably going to be better off with a veteran, former starter (i.e.- Trubisky) as your backup. 4) However many believe in having a young developmental QB as your number 3, particularly on teams that don't have a durable superstar QB. 5) IMO, if the Bills chose to carry a younger developmental QB then they should be looking at free agents and/or undrafted free agents. 6) #5 above is based on the opinion that for a team that is a true and perennial Super Bowl contender, every draft pick should be used on a position player to make the team around the superstar QB, better. -

Should Bills Draft a Back-up QB? Who?

Yes the Packers GM Brian Gutekunst has said that in principal he would like to draft a QB every year. Bill Polian and Bill Walsh were also adherents to the idea that even if you have a QB, there's nothing wrong with drafting another QB if the value is right. Fortunately for them, the drafting of Trey Lance didn't stop the Niners from drafting Brock Purdy at the end of the same draft. McBeane dipped their toes into that philosophy post-Josh when they took Jake Fromm in the 5th round of the 2020 draft... a move that was and still is questioned. And here to talk about his experiences is @JakeFrommStateFarm!!! Jake, welcome to the show... thanks for joining us... -
Josh Allen.......over/under 10.5 Rushing TD's???
Sierra Foothills replied to Special K's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don't disagree with you on wanting to see Josh absorb less punishment but do you really think the bolded is an accurate statement? Specifically "sick and tired?" Thanks for playing! The Buffalo Shuffalo? -
It's true that Buffalo Joe isn't a speedster but neither is he slow for a linebacker. Also his relative athletic score is very high: https://www.hustlebelt.com/2024/4/24/24138585/2024-nfl-draft-profile-joe-andreessen-ilb-buffalo-bulls-ub-mac-inside-linebacker#:~:text=Kent Lee Platte%2C the developer,Combine and Pro Day performances. His 10 yard split, shuttle, vertical jump, broad jump, and bench press are all well above average.

I've never really done anything like this before... I guess the next step is... pictures?

Damar Hamlin leading pro bowl voting
Sierra Foothills replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall
It's possible that Hamlin starting at safety is no more than a "marriage of convenience." I think the proof of his abilities will be whether or not he's starting next year for the Bills. -
Posted elsewhere: "As first reported by Nick Sabato of the Niagara Gazette, Cine is expected to work out more at linebacker instead of safety - a position that the Bills could use as many potential players as possible. "Cine felt he needed a fresh start after two frustrating seasons with the Vikings. Little did he know, that would include a position change as the Bills have spent the last few weeks giving Cine a try at linebacker," Sabato wrote. "Early in his stint with the Bills, defensive coordinator Bobby Babich approached Cine about switching from safety to linebacker." Taking this at face value, Cine may have usurped Nicholas Morrow on the depth chart. Or maybe they want to try Cine out at "Big Nickel?"

Keon was slow arriving to the airport. They whisked him onto the tarmac just before departure. @finn is correct. No... I own property in the Sierra Foothills. Are you saying that you're not really Scott Norwood's foot? Prove it!

Fair enough. Why has Hamlin kept Kareem Jackson from being activated? -
What’s it gonna take to improve /prioritize our run defense?
Sierra Foothills replied to Jistafan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Maybe we should start a petition! No... actually that's what Damar Hamlin is for. The Lions game will really tell the story about how much concern to place in our run D... especially because we won't play Philly in the regular season. Be careful what you wish for. When they beat us in the divisional round last year the Chiefs ran 24 times for 146 yards... an average of 6.1 yards per carry. It wasn't the only reason we lost but it was one of them. This is not accurate. The long Henry TD run was not the turning point in the game. Bills were still competitive up until midway through the 3rd until the failed trick play. In fact it really wasn't until Bass missed the FG attempt at the end of the 3rd that the Bills finally folded their tents. "The Williams Wall!!!" While I have concerns about our run D, that game lacked meaning as far as running or stopping the run. Neither team could stop the run in that snow storm on the slick field. No. We make fun of you because of that silly outfit you insist on wearing. Well now that's a rhetorical question isn't it. How many yards to you think the Lions will rush for? I see some people here have poo poo'd your post. There are games (the Pats game cited here, the Divisional Round loss to Cinci, the Divisional Round loss to the Chiefs) where our soft run defense contributed to the loss. I have faith that the return to health of the defense and the addition of Babich will alleviate this problem but it would be premature to assume our run D won't be exploited by teams such as Detroit or Philly when we reach the Super Bowl. I don't lose sleep at night thinking about it but the Bills run D is a legit concern. -
You're still obsessing on "Wide Right?" So you guys think it's inconceivable that he can gain 10 lbs of muscle in 2-3 weeks? And Dawkins' comments? When asked why they brought Hyde back you say "I don't know" and then automatically bring up Brown and Beasley. Then you say the word dumpster. Do you have an opinion on whether bringing Hyde back was a good move?

Damar Hamlin leading pro bowl voting
Sierra Foothills replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall
Great post. Thank you. It's sad that so many Bills fans here need to publicly state their negative beliefs about him. The one thing you didn't mention... Virtually no one would argue that McDermott is a DB Whisperer and that Beane is a great talent evaluator. No one would argue that NFL football is a bottom line, results-oriented, high stakes business. So if Hamlin is as bad as his critics here insist, why would McDermott and Beane put the fortunes (wins and losses) of a billion dollar enterprise in the hands of someone who sucks? -
@LabattBlue, you might as well re-sign yourself that it's just not gonna happen. 🙂

Week 14 - Bills at Rams Game Week Thread
Sierra Foothills replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
Mathematically your point is inarguable. Since the expansion to 14 teams, only 1 team in each conference gets a bye whereas it used to be that 2 teams in each conference did. I can't argue with your point. Interestingly though in the 4 years since the expansion of the playoff field the Super Bowl winners (as @Beck Water pointed out) have been the #3, #1, #4, and #5 seeds. So only 1 #1 seed has won in the last 4 years. We were talking about "at all costs." Is being the #1 seed worth it if you lose Dion Dawkins? James Cook? Gregory Rousseau? It's a rhetorical question but that's the point of the discussion... at what cost? -
Yes Patrick Ricard... the 6'3" 300 lb fullback. He was second team All Pro in 2023 with zero carries and 5 receptions. The fullback on those Patriots teams was James Develin... 6'3" and listed at 275 lbs. He was voted to the Pro Bowl in 2017 with zero carries and 6 receptions. If Belichick could run the ball on a team, he wouldn't feel the need to throw it. During his time as Patriots coach they had 20 games where they rushed for 200 or more yards. This adherence to the run was a big reason he won 6 Super Bowls as Patriots coach. His teams could throw and run.
