As you are already aware, that's wishful thinking. In the current climate with the Rooney Rule looming over the early offseason I think it's very highly unlikely that Frazier gets fired. Part of this conversation is anger/disappointment fueled. Because of the heinous loss to the Chiefs there is some percentage of the fanbase that wants their pound of flesh... in this case Frazier's head. A realistic and pragmatic view asks the question whether the Bills will grow/learn/improve from this experience... whether McDermott/Frazier will have plugged the leaks.

I wouldn't worry about Frazier. I'm pretty sure McNair will hire him next year after firing Lovie this year. Frazier's essentially gonna be the 3rd leg of the triple crown. The Culley-Lovie-Frazier carousel will become the running inside joke for the NFL... their little gleeful poke at the Rooney Rule.

A guy I know from Depew/Lancaster who would have been about 17 at the time, was a huge Cowboys fan and expecting a big win for Dallas, attended the game wearing a Tony Dorsett jersey and a cowboy hat (he's long since converted to being a Bills fan). In addition he was buzzed on some form of hallucinogenic drug that was popularized in the late 1960s. Because he was "peaking" he was running a bit late to his seat and had no sooner entered the stadium bowl when Greg Bell broke the 85 yard run. Needless to say the game was a huge bummer for him.

The Bills have made the playoffs in 4 of the last 5 years after a 17 year drought and you're not convinced that those in charge can evaluate talent? That's an interesting take. Please tell more.

Michigan was a clown show even after Harbaugh arrived in 2015... right up until last year. Until this season he had not beaten Ohio State and he has a losing record against Michigan State. Their success this season had a lot to do with the fact that they had something like 30 returning seniors. Harbaugh has restored respectability to the program but I think it would be an exaggeration to give him much more credit than that... he has not been a miracle worker. He has not come near the success that Meyer had with OSU for instance.

This is what I believe. It's part of the fallout from Floresgate. It actually wouldn't surprise me if the NFL made a direct appeal to Zygi Wilf to make a minority hire... to "take one for the team" to mitigate the possibly hundreds of millions in damage to the league.

Rhetorical question: Is it better too late than never? Two things strike me about the Bills roster and lineup decisions: 1) They target veteran free agents who they believe are upgrades and plug them into the lineup and generally give them every opportunity to succeed. For instance the Bills gave Trent Murphy and Patrick DiMarco long play when it seemed they were not justifying their playing time. This later happened with E. Sanders. 2) The team is patient and cautious about promoting young players unless they are highly-drafted. For every Josh Allen, Tre White, and Tremaine Edmunds there are numerous mid-late round picks and free agents that the team brings along slowly but who eventually assume larger roles. I believe these two factors combine to create instances where veterans get more playing time (are given the benefit of the doubt) over younger players for longer than many of us would like. As an example, half the people here would have cut Cole Beasley and inserted Isaiah McKenzie into the lineup. Obviously the Bills didn't do that.

I think a more likely question would be, "Is there a chance the Bills replace Frazier assuming that he's not offered a head coaching position?" He definitely did not help his career trajectory in those 13 seconds plus overtime. Here's a question: "Is it possible to have a DC who is less effective statistically during the regular season but whose defense plays better in must-win playoff situations?" All of us will tend to overreact in either/both directions after what happened in KC. That said IMO, much of the blame has to be placed on McDermott's shoulders... both because of the "ultimate responsibility rule" and also because he took 2 defensive timeouts which hurt us. McDermott probably calls more defensive timeouts in critical situations than any other NFL head coach and that's generally a good thing but as we all found out from the autopsy, the timeouts allowed Kelce and Company to mastermind a few playground ball plays which forced overtime... in other words the time outs don't always work in the defense's favor and certainly didn't last Sunday. If your players are dependable, knowledgeable, well-trained veterans then sometimes micro-managing is a bad idea.

What you say doesn't change my point, which is that the Bills are not likely to be chasing other teams' big name free agents.

The Bills need playmakers/difference makers. This team has enough solid, assignment-sound players (especially on defense). What they lack is skill players on both sides who can lift a team to victory by virtue of their sheer athleticism. HOF cornerback Darrell Green was the last player taken in the first round. Green had 54 interceptions and 6 TDs in his career. When he wasn't making splash plays he was shutting down receivers. Tyreek Hill was selected in the 5th round. I think the Bills are solid and competent enough through their roster that they can shift their philosophy towards more explosive, high-ceiling players.

I think most would agree that Milano is better than Edmunds. And if every Bills 5th rounder was as good as Milano, we'd be building a float for a parade down Delware Avenue. Milano's range and instincts are excellent. Is he an All-Pro? No, but he's not anywhere near part of the problem either. Mahomes to Kelce have made plenty of excellent players look bad, no? How much autonomy do you guys think Frazier gets? Is he not running the McDermott Defense?
