What Are You Most Excited About This Coming Season?
BigAl2526 replied to Victory Formation's topic in The Stadium Wall
It you can't get excited about watching the team that's going to win the Super Bowl, you can't get excited about much of anything. -
They take a bit of time off every year around this time.

Glad I could help give you a great experience here! BTW, I like it here too.

I'm skeptical. Buffalo is depending on rookies to make the D-line work. Those rookies (Jackson, Sanders and Walker) may work out and be terrific, but until we see them on the field in games we're not going to be sure that the Bills have elevated their defensive line to anywhere near that level.

At least it keeps the message board busy in the slow periods. Just trying to give our moderators something to moderate.

Thirty of the thirty-six unsigned picks are in the second round according to the article. Simple math says only 2 are signed. I would guess most of the remaining six unsigned picks are first rounders.
-
I'll pick one for offense - Kaden Prather, and one for defense - Wande Owens. We heard good reports about both in the OTAs and mini-camp and both have the requisite lack of notoriety from their college days and the pre-draft process.

The explanation I've seen is this: A few picks before Buffalo, New Orleans picked a QB, Tyler Shough. Shough was not a highly regarded QB and he is 26 years old, but the Saints liked him. Moreover, the Saints may be in a position where they have to start him. The only other QB on the roster with any name recognition at all is Spencer Rattler. Well, Shough decided that while he can't ask for the big bucks of a high first round pick, since he is the de facto starter on a bad New Orleans team, he could hold out for a fully guaranteed contract. Agents for other second round picks got wind of this (agents talk to each other all the time) and decided to wait things out because if Shough can wrangle a fully guaranteed deal, perhaps they can do the same for their clients, or at least get significant chunks of guaranteed money. Hence, it's not Sanders being difficult, it's just agents doing what they're supposed to do, trying to get their clients the best deals they can. Anyone hear anything different or have another take on it?

McDermott not in Top 10 of NFL coaches per PFF.
BigAl2526 replied to 14774's topic in The Stadium Wall
I agree, he is a very good coach, but he is far removed from his days with the 49ers and college football is not the NFL. Making the playoffs with the Chargers confirms his coaching ability, but it's not the same as making the playoffs year after year like a certain other coach has done. -
McDermott not in Top 10 of NFL coaches per PFF.
BigAl2526 replied to 14774's topic in The Stadium Wall
People keep giving Stefanski a pass for the train wreck that is Cleveland. Yeah, they have and idiot GM, but without evidence on the field you can't justify ranking Stephanski with the best coaches in the league. I question Tomlin's ranking as well. Yes, he's had success over a long tenure, but the last several years, the Steelers have tended toward mediocrity. I don't like the Jim Harbaugh selection either. Yeah, he's a good coach with some history before he fled the NFL for Michigan, but PFF seems to buy into the Harbaugh mystique and bluster instead of looking at recent history, because he has precious little. -
Thanks, Buffalo 716. I don't pretend to know the technical intricacies of NFL football, but your explanation matches what I understood to be true. The offensive systems (at least today) are languages. They may have at one time carried philosophical implications, but not so much anymore. For example, the West Coast offense was geared to more of a short passing game, designed to spread defenses out horizontally. The running game was more of a change of pace tool to keep defenses honest. Now, it's more about the philosophy of the head coach/offensive coordinator. There are West coast guys that like to run the ball more and guys that like to run it less, and guys who like passing the ball deep and those who don't, sometimes depending on the skill sets of the players. You can run any play in Erhardt-Perkins that you can run in the West Coast and vice versa.

Tyreek Hill chirping about the Bills again
BigAl2526 replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Whatever works. . . The defense Buffalo uses usually works versus the Dolphins. Tyreek's rants don't do a thing. Buffalo's defense, particularly its secondary, will be better in 2025 than in 2024. Tyreek Hill is not getting any better or wiser. He's just getting older. -
I think the odds are better than 50/50 for a Buffalo sweep of the division. The wild card is New England as Drake Maye showed plenty of potential last season and will be better with a year under his belt. Mike Vrabel coaches a tough physical brand of football that has on occasion given the Sean McDermott led Bills fits. On the other hand, I think Buffalo itself has made a concerted effort to become tougher and more physical.

There is like a population of more than 10 million people in the Jets' market area. It doesn't seem to me as if there is much financial risk to the team in buying back tickets. Then again, I would not have thought that season ticket holders would have much trouble reselling unwanted games for at least the original price.

My 5 year old grandson made his own Father's Day card for me, his grandfather. In it he wrote "To Grandpa from a most special kid..."

Who was invited to Josh and Hailee's wedding?
BigAl2526 replied to Willie West's topic in The Stadium Wall
You have to remember, the movie is 10 years old. Hailee was 19 at the time and was dressed and made up to look probably two years younger than that. -

BigAl2526 replied to Willie West's topic in The Stadium Wall
I feel like I've known Hailee for years. I saw movie on a free streaming channel called "Barely Lethal" in which she starred as a teenager who was trained to be an assassin. While finishing an assignment, dangling on a rope from a helicopter with the villain above her, She is cut loose and plunges into the water and survives. She never wanted to be an assassin and uses this as an opportunity to reinvent herself as a normal teenager. Anyway, she was cute as a teenager, but no raving beauty. Incidentally, the villain was Jessica Alba. -
It's a matter of degree. A bad pull/tear can take months to recover from fully. From what Beane said, it sounds as if it is a pretty mild tweak. I don't think it is anything to worry about.
-
Yeah, it's hard to believe that the Bills would have him around on the sideline if there was any suspicion it could be a torn ACL. That would seem to leave a pulled ligament or muscle.
-
I thought that if Cook came to mini-camp it meant he would play out his contract and then depart in free agency. Now that he has reported, I still think it is a long shot that any other outcome happens. There is a slim chance, I would guess that the Bills can work out some kind of deal. The Buffalo News is suggesting a two-year bridge deal. I'm happy with whatever might keep him a Bill. We'll see.

Former Panther Alert: Bills sign Shaq Thompson LB!
BigAl2526 replied to FireChans's topic in The Stadium Wall
Was a pretty good athlete coming out of college. Smallish and athletic like McDermott seems to like them. Biggest issue is he carries the same injury concern as Milano. Can he stay healthy? He's played six games total in the last two seasons and he's coming off an Achilles issue suffered last October. It's hard to imagine he's completely recovered this soon. My guess is the Bills will be hoping he could be available by mid-season if necessary and not suffering from the long-term effects of a bad Achilles too much by then. -
It certainly seems like Specter would be expendable in the minds of Beane and McDermott. Andreeson was a pleasant surprise, but whether or not he's good enough to depend on in the case of an extended injury to Bernard, I don't know, and I'm not sure anyone here does know. Ulofoshio is even more of a mystery. Apart from being on the short side, he has good measurables, but his scouting report stated he lacks speed and instincts. He barely got on the field on defense as a rookie with 4 total tackles. My guess is the Bills won't expect much from him in 2025. He needs to show a lot of growth in the mental aspect of playing professional defense before he's a factor in anything but special teams.

Obviously, the Bills are counting on Rousseau to have a major role on the defense as he did a year ago. They are hoping that Joey Bosa will be able to return to his play of a few years ago. In four of his first six seasons, he had ten or more sacks. Rousseau and Bosa have both played mostly left end. In the last few years, Bosa has played more linebacker, but that's probably not happening with the Bills. I think they are hoping that Landon Jackson will be effective playing RDE, so Bosa and Rousseau can rotate on the left. Epenesa is the incumbent starter at RDE, and at this point, I don't think the Bills are ready to get rid of him. Hoecht is obviously not available for six games. Even when he returns, he's something of a unicorn as a 310 lb defensive end. He times fast, but I can't believe he's going to be more than a power rusher. Besides Solomon the rest of the defensive ends on the Bills roster, are scrubs; Paris Shand and Hayden Harris. Those two are extreme long shots to make the roster, so discounting them, and not counting Hoecht at the start of the season, Solomon is the fifth DE. There is a decent chance, the Bills will carry 5 DEs. If they do, Solomon will be the guy. How much playing time he gets is very much up in the air. Epenesa has been solid, but not a difference maker. Epenesa has never had more than 6.5 sacks in a season. Granted, he's always been in a rotation, but I think the Bills would like to see more from him. If he gives the Bills the same level of play that he always has, I could see the Bills experimenting with giving Solomon more snaps when the game is important and hasn't already been decided. Solomon is the only defensive end buffalo has who relies on quickness and bend to get to the QB. I just don't think they want to get rid of that in their toolbox.

To refine my thinking: If Cook shows up for mini-camp, I think the future is pretty much set in stone. Cook will play out his contract and sigh elsewhere after the season with the highest bidder. If Cook does not show up at mini-camp, (which I expect to be the case) I think it means the drama will continue. We'll wonder for a few weeks if he'll come to training camp, and if he doesn't show up at the start of training camp, we'll wonder if he'll come later in training camp, and so on. I don't think there is any chance he is a Buffalo Bill in the 2026 season.
