  1. Suppose Brady does take the New Orleans gig, who is next in line for Bills OC. Another poster suggested Daboll. He's definitely on the hot seat in New York but hasn't been fired yet. Would he be the top choice of most posters here? Is there another name that Bills fans like, who is likely to be available if Daboll is not?
  2. A fine is a reasonable response. Poyer's comment was sad, however. "It was a clean hit, I aimed for the chest." The video shows Poyer left his feet and clearly appeared to be aiming for the head. A dirty play every day of the week.
  3. I wonder what the cost differential would be between re-signing Douglas and picking up Elam's 5th year option, and potentially signing Elam to a new deal. The fact that he's a first round pick tends to make him pretty expensive.
  4. The old axiom is that refs could call and offensive hold on every play, but these were both very weak calls, and for it to happen on consecutive plays is inexcusable. I assume the Bills will point this out to the league and lodge a complaint.
  5. I don't think McDermott had much to lose under the circumstances.
  6. No mystery. As Gunner Bill points out, Elam is pretty much limited to being an outside CB. Douglas and Benford are an excellent tandem. McDermott is always going to opt not to fix something that isn't broke. It is highly likely that Buffalo does not pick up his fifth year option and Elam goes on to start for another team.
  7. Mostert and Achane are good running backs. Paying the Dolphins is a bit of a catch 22. If you play 8 in the box Tyreek Hill might eat you alive. If you play with a light box, Mostert and Achane can gash you. Miami has not always taken advantage of this reality because McDaniel loves the passing game and will get away from the run game even when it's working. He got smarter against the Bills. Next year when Buffalo plays Miami, they need to get better play from their defensive line.
  8. It sure has been frustrating to watch the Bills defense today.
  9. Dethroning KC as the top seed is a long shot. There is a better chance KC loses to somebody in the playoffs before Buffalo would have to play them, and Buffalo gets home field that way.
  10. LOL Intellectually, I'm glad the Jets won. Emotionally, I felt good when the Jets played poorly.
  11. Josh may be tempted to hold the ball in one hand because his hands are so big. I'd like it if he were a bit more careful though.
  12. Jets. At this point, we assume the Jets are far enough out of the AFCEast title race that for them to have to get back in would require a significant collapse from the Bills. Should that happen, seeding in the playoffs is the least of Buffalo's concerns. Therefore, it is in Buffalo's best interest for Houston to lose, thus making it a bit easier for Buffalo to get past Houston in the standings, assuming Buffalo is competitive in the race for a home game or two, if not a bye in the playoffs and they move through the second half of the season.
  13. Father Time is undefeated. Rodgers might fool himself for a bit, but he doesn't stand a chance.
  14. Because he was on IR designated to return, the team had a window to activate him. The Bills have 3 RBs on the roster (and a FB) that they like and don't want to spend another roster spot to add Evans to the 53 man roster. I would not be surprised if the Bills give Evans the opportunity to sign on with the PS unless he gets signed by another team.
  15. Early on, Elam struggled in part because his strength is man coverage and Buffalo is primarily a zone team. I think he can probably play now and be effective, though he needs to get on the field both to show it and get better. His problem now is mostly McDermott's philosophy ("If it ain't broke, don't fix it."). Benford and Douglas are one of the better CB duos in the league. Barring injury, McDermott has no motive to put Elam in. The Bills rotate D-linemen, not CBs.
  16. If the Bills let go of him, I would like to know who our safety depth consists of besides Cole Bishop. Cam Lewis doesn't cut it for me.
  17. This is a "should win easily" game for Buffalo. However, I try to never take anything for granted. I hope my Bills share the same philosophy.
  18. The nagging injury is a concern, but I'm assuming he went to IR to give him time to heal up. Injuries happen. I'm more concerned that the Bills sometimes seem to typecast players into roles when they have potential to do more. Yes, Curtis Samuel should theoretically be able to fill the role of a gadget player, but he should also be able to line up outside and run a full route tree as well as line up in the slot. I can't understand why they didn't have him play a more varied role.
  19. Josh is so bad, the league should award Buffalo a first round compensatory pick just to make it fair with the Bills having to carry the burden of having Allen on the roster.
  20. I am not especially a fan of Rapp and Hamlin, but they are doing OK in what the Bills are asking them to do. Buffalo needs safeties in their system who are smart enough to handle a fairly complex scheme that does a lot of things to confuse opposing QBs. Poyer and Hyde had it down cold. Hamlin and Rapp are probably not quite as smooth, but they know what they're doing. I think Buffalo at some point would like to have a pair of safeties who are somewhat more athletic, but can still handle the mental challenges. Maybe Cole Bishop can be part of that future tandem, but they need another one.
  21. Just a small correction.
  22. He's afraid of gagging on crow. Come on Jimmy, it probably tastes like chicken.
  23. I agree with you, but NFL teams do need a receiver of two with some serious speed. There are some receivers in the league whose physical talents make speed irrelevant. AJ Brown has been dominant as a physical receiver who wasn't terribly fast. Still, having some speed at the WR position has some advantages, including forcing defenses to play a little deeper, thus opening up both the underneath passing game and the running game. If teams don't respect your speed the defensive backs all tend to play closer to the LOS and it becomes tougher to make plays. If you have just one physical freak like Coleman, teams can just double cover him or at least move the safeties in his direction. Coleman is becoming a key player in the passing game, but Shakir has some traits that make him difficult to cover. Amari Cooper, when he becomes more fully comfortable with the offense, is fast enough to make defenses respect his speed. I think all three are going to be pretty important moving forward in helping the offense to be explosive. If the Bills aren't able to extend Cooper after the season, I could see Buffalo trying to add another receiver in the draft to take the role of a speed guy.
  24. Did you get the license plate of that truck that just ran me over?
  25. Solid all around win. If I were picky, I might mention that Buffalo committed far too many penalties, and the defense had a lapse in their intensity on Seattle's touchdown drive. I'm not, so you can forget I mentioned it.
