Evaulation (of this team) after a quarter of season gone
GASabresIUFan replied to ganesh's topic in The Stadium Wall
Please stop with this narrative. It’s just not true. 2024 draft - 2 2nd rd picks are Coleman and Bishop. Both are starters and both are significantly improved over last year. Carter is likely a bust but he’s a 3rd rd pick. 2023 draft - Kincaid in the 1st - is a starter and an excellent player, Torrence in the 2nd is a future All-pro guard (maybe as early as this year) and Williams in the 3rd maybe a starter next season and is a solid backup now. 2022 draft - Elam in the 1st is a bust, but Cook in the 2nd is elite, as is Bernard in the 3rd 2021 draft - Rousseau in the 1st is a solid starter, Basham in the 2nd is a bust, but Brown in the 3rd is a Pro Bowl caliber OT. So lets recap 12 selections, 8 starters, 5 high end to elite players (Kincaid, Torrence, Bernard, Cook and Brown) with 2 more still developing (Bishop and Coleman) and one backup who could be a future starter in Williams. How is this even close to screwing up the 3 round picks again every year. I don’t know what Hairston, Sanders and Jackson will become, but considering how wrong this board has been on Shakir, Cook, Bishop, Kincaid, Coleman and others after their 1st season (or two), maybe we need to be a little more patient. Personally I believe in Hairston and Jackson. -
Is Hawes in the process of surpassing Knox as TE2??
GASabresIUFan replied to Special K's topic in The Stadium Wall
We don’t often agree, but this is a great post. It did get me thinking about how Josh is distributing the ball by position group. This is a calculation based on general classification of the receiver vs where the player lined up on a particular play. 1. Wideouts (Coleman, Palmer, Shavers) - 42 targets, 29 receptions, 365 yards, 1 TD - Coleman 17/22 203 yds 1 TD 2. TE (Kincaid, Knox, Hawes) - 30, 25, 272, 4 - Kincaid 14/18 179 3 TDs, Hawes 4/4 3. Slot WR (Shakir, Moore, Samuel) - 27, 21, 263, 2 - Shakir 16/20 190 yds 2 TDs, Moore 4/5 4. RB (Cook, Johnson, Davis) - 20, 14, 96, 0 - Cook has 12 catches on 13 targets for 89 yards. Johnson only 1/5 My reaction to these stats are we need more Kincaid, Johnson needs to step up, but Josh is really spreading the ball around. 12 different receivers in only 4 games and Josh is averaging 9.1 yards per pass attempt to the WRs, slots guys and TEs. Only “regular” without a catch is FB Gilliam. I suspect more quick throws against NE with Brown out of the lineup. -
Bills Players Grades...If You Need a Laugh..
GASabresIUFan replied to Rich Stadium Original's topic in The Stadium Wall
They are right about the OL and Brady's structure of the offense. They are wrong about Dalvin vs James Cook so far. James is the better all around player and is becoming just as big as a running threat. -
James Cook!

THE ROCKPILE REVIEW – At the One-Quarter Mark
GASabresIUFan replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall
If I had to point out the Bills weaknesses to this point it is containing mobile QBs. The Bills have allowed nearly 170 yards rushing to Lamar, Rattler, and Fields. I also agree that we need more out of Johnson and Davis in the running game. I know the Cook haters look pretty foolish right now, but we need Davis and Johnson to become effective and we especially need Johnson to reemerge in the passing game. Johnson has 1 catch YTD on 5 targets. I'm less concerned about the defense than others, as I see Milano, Oliver and Hoecht returning pretty soon giving a huge lift to the D. I'd also like to see more explosion on the offense. Palmer and Coleman aren’t making plays down the field. So far they are averaging only 13.8 and 11.9 yards per catch. On the plus side, Hawes' emergence and the return to form for Kincaid have significantly helped the offense. -

And didn’t do poorly against Kamara. It’s the mobile QBs that have hurt us as you mentioned. -

The board's fanbase certainly has some issues. Fire McD (highest win % of any Bills HC). Trade Cook and install Davis. Fire Beane because his drafting stinks (I assume that means besides Allen, Cook, Brown, Benford, Bernard, Shakir, Torrence, etc...) The evaluation of this season to date is the Bills are 4-0 with 2 divisional wins and a strong conference win. The Bills have scored 30+ every game, lead the NFL in rushing yards (654) and TDs with 9. Our 16 offensive TDs are tied for 1st with Det (Det has a def/ST TD). The Bills are also 7th in passing yards with 996. On defense the Bills lead the NFL in least amount of passing yards allowed at 564 with an excellent 8.8 yards per reception (3rd best in the league). We are getting stomped by the run. We have allowed 657 yards on the ground for 6 yards a carry. The Baltimore game skews the data with their 8.2 yards per rush that game. Our 290 yards allowed per game is the 10th best in the league. Our 22.5 pts allowed per game is 17th. Our winning margin YTD is 10.8 up from 9 last season and ranks 3rd in the NFL. Basically the defense is mediocre (but surprisingly solid against the pass) and our offense is historically good. -
That's fair, but it was also the first game of the season and the Ravens are an incredibly tough matchup for the Bills. That said their return coupled with the return of the others will help. One of the side benefits for injuries and suspension is that it has given PT to players we needed to evaluate short and long-term. Some have stepped up (Bishop, Thompson and Walker) and others not so much (Sanders & Solomon). This PT allow Babich to rotate more players and hopefully keep the defense healthier and strong throughout the game. I also agree that certain guys need to tackle batter (Bosa?)

Wow! So we should fire McD because the team is 4-0? How many people calling for McD to be fired also wanted Cook traded and argued Davis was just a good? Who are you going to replace McD with? I hear Rex Ryan and Doug Marrone are looking for work. I'm not sure that there are many coaches who would be undefeated with nearly 50% of their starting D injured or suspended.
-
People act that you can just drop anyone into the roles that Oliver and Milano and other play on the defense. No matter how good or talented or experienced that replacement player is, they are always a down grade. The key for the Bills is to weather this injury storm over the next few weeks and begin to get players back. I think people will be pleasantly surprised with how much the D improves.

Amon-Ra St Brown. Just saying. We need some James Cook-ies down here in the Atl. Thank you for admitting it. That’s why Beane gets paid to run the Bills and we pay to watch them.

Anyone ever been to Mercedes Benz stadium?

Have my tickets. Parking can be an issue. Falcons are probably 3rd behind UGA and the Braves. -
Is a CFL-NFL merger coming in the future?
GASabresIUFan replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
Just think of it as a giant practice squad for teams to add from. Guys with talent the need development still but have run out of college eligibility. Guys recovering from injury that need a place to play to get their games back. Etc… -

First ballot HOF players playing now

Jalen Ramsey (please don't shoot the messenger). 3 time 1st team all-pro and won a Super Bowl. Like him or hate him, the peak for his career was excellent. Maybe not a 1st ballot guy, but certainly in the HOF conversation. -

Maybe the CFL becomes an NFL minor league after merging with the spring football league (whatever it is called this year). -
Bills Defense, will it get better as season goes on
GASabresIUFan replied to North Buffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think this is a personnel issue. At Frazier's peek he has White, Hyde and Poyer in their primes plus a young Taron Johnson. Now we have Rapp, an aging an oft injured White, 2nd year player in Bishop, an aging Taron Jonson and Benford. We need better speed and outside of Benford, better coverage skills in the secondary. -
Ravens at Chiefs - who do you want to have their third loss?
GASabresIUFan replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’m thinking the Ravens. Since we play KC, we can give them their 3rd (or more) loss and have the tiebreaker over both. -

Bills Defense, will it get better as season goes on
GASabresIUFan replied to North Buffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall
Assuming continued health by the current defenders, adding Hoecht, Hairston, Milano and Oliver (and to a lesser extent Ogunjobi) over the next 4 weeks to this defense will make an incredible positive difference, especially against the run and adding speed to the secondary.
