I noticed that too, as a mater of fact I noticed it happen a few times throughout the game. I wonder if the Bills brain trust has come to the conclusion that if Edmunds could just react to what's happening and play, rather than worry about his surrounding players and thinking about what MAY happen, that his play would elevate. I haven't been a big Edmunds fan up until now because of the potential I thought he had coming out of school, and him playing so tentatively always seemingly being behind the play. The last two games or so he has seemed to have turned on the switch and is becoming the player I originally thought he'd be. Could it be that the coaching staff has helped him by clearing away some of his responsibilities?

We traded Greg Bell, our 1988 1st rounder, and our 1989 1st and 2nd rounder for the rights to sign Bennett. We traded Kelvin Shepard for Hughes who was already under contract straight up. Don't get me wrong I loved Bennett, but IMHO the Hughes trade was the better trade.

It all depends on what motivates him, if his goal is to make as much money as humanly possible he could probably "break" the team. If his motivation is to be the foundation of a dynasty, he'll still make a butt ton of money, but it will be on a team friendly deal. One can't fault him for either approach, it all depends on what's important to him. I think the "family atmosphere" of the team appeals to him and I think the outpouring of sympathy by the fans over his grandmothers death appeals to him, and I think the people of western New York in general appeals to him. IMHO it all boils down to the front office's attitude toward his next contract. If they approach it like a business decision and they refuse to pay him a penny more than they need to sooner than they need to, he'd be wise to seek a market value deal (which is probably more than the Bills are willing to pay). If the front office approaches him as early as allows to "reward" his growth, he'd be wise to seek a team friendly deal that would preclude Beane managing the remaining roster to accommodate Allen's contract. I'll admit I'm an old fogey and the dollar amounts they throw around these days just boggles my mind. I remember my dad complaining that when the Jets paid Namath $250,000 it would ruin the game of football because the players were getting paid so much.

I don't believe in things such as moral victories in a loss, or what ever the heck the opposite thing would be in a win. At the end of the day there are only wins and losses, "style points" only matter during the game to allow us fans to either gloat on the awesomeness of our team or bemoan the suckatude of our least liked players and/or coaches. After the final gun you either have a win (a good thing) or a loss (a bad thing). Given the choice of playing brilliantly every game but for some reason going 0-16, or playing like a pile of steaming dog feces but winning the Super Bowl ... pass me the trophy. just sayin

What I really don't understand is the national media's refusal to just admit that this years version of the Patriots is just a bad football team. It's not disrespect or a "hot take" or sensationalism. Just take a look at the talent level across the board of the team they will be fielding today, IMHO on paper the players are pretty much on level with the Jets. The catch is the game is played on the field and not on paper. The Patriots big advantage over the Jets is with their organization and coaching staff and that's why their fans can have hope that they will NEVER play that bad, and they will recover with an influx of talent. Some of the reasons they are bad are that they lost some darn good players to free agency, another wave of "talent drain" came when an inordinate amount of players opted out due to the covid flu, they've suffered injury loss (like every other team) to an already thin roster, and I don't think the Cam Newton "gamble" is paying off for them. I was one of the only people who thought that they had upgraded the QB position when Brady left and Newton was picked up. I STILL think a HEATHY Newton gives the Pats more options from the QB position and could more easily "cover up" the teams short comings at WR than todays Brady. After watching the last few Pats games it's my opinion he is NOT healthy, I think that shoulder injury a few years back was wayyyyyyyy worse than anyone thought and although it may have felt good to start the season it's pretty much FUBAR now. I think the Bills success today depends on if the reputation of the Pats last decade and a half gotten into their heads and they are trying to beat those ghosts, or do they truly believe the Pats "mystic" is just so much laundry and what matters is the players wearing the uniforms.

But is it that we CAN'T run .... or is it we WON'T run. We only had one carry by someone not named Josh Allen the entire first half of last week. Don't get me wrong I think designated runs and scrambles are an important and effective part of Allen's game, but a stat line something like 3 designated runs by your QB, 1 run by your WR, and 1 run by your RB for an entire half sounds kind of goofy to me. (that stat line may not be exactly right other than the 1 run by Motor, I'm going off memory here and I'm too damn lazy to look it up)

And the Pats last THREE games have instilled confidence in THEM????

While I agree BB is one of the greatest coaches in our lifetime, he pretty much sucks as a GM. He caught lightning in a bottle with the Brady sixth round pick, but he's pretty much let that team fall into ruin as far as offensive talent. While I'll agree that he's hurt by all of the opt-outs, could the reason there were so many in the first place be because of the draconian way he runs the team?

I quit caring what the media says many many years ago, they are just people who get paid for espousing their opinions on TV and radio, and their opinions for the most part are just as invalid as the opinions of us fuzz brained fans who post them in forums. The only difference is we fans are blinded by our loyalty to "our team" and the media "experts" are blinded by their ratings. Buffalo won't sell to the national audience whereas NY, NE, LA will. If you'll remember back in the 90s, the media wanted anyone but the Bills in the Super Bowl. I was listening to some sports show this afternoon that was saying that New England was STILL the favorites to win the division. Their reasoning was of the two teams they are chasing, one is going to be starting a rookie QB so they're not going to be a factor, and the Bills haven't looked too good the last three games so they are crashing and burning. No mention that the Pats also looked like a pile of steaming fecal material these last three weeks, and the small fact that the Bills have a two game cushion to right their ship.

I think this is a much bigger game for the Pats, if they lose to the Bills their hopes to win the division gets pretty dim, if the Bills lose they are still a game ahead of the Pats and in control of their own destiny.

But you CAN win the division and still lose twice to the Pats ... just sayin

IMHO, with the Bills playing as well and the Pats playing as bad as they have this season, this game becomes just another game on our schedule. Sure it's an important game because it's a division game but it's on equal footing with games against the Jets and the Dolphins. It is NOT the yardstick many want to make it about the "greatness" of our beloved Bills. Beating the Pats will give me the same sort of satisfaction as beating the Dolphins after the 0 for 70's. While I fully agree with the old adage of if you want to be the "best" you have to beat the "best" this year the title of "best" belongs to the Chiefs, Steelers, Titans certainly not the Pats. While beating the Pats will give me a certain amount of satisfaction of getting the monkey off our backs ... and shutting up the "national" talking head experts about any possibility of the Pats still taking the division ... it will tell me more about the decline of the Pats than it will about the rise of the Bills.

I don't know if I necessarily agree with that statement. IMHO, if you took Josh's QB draft class coming out of college, based purely on the traditional QB skill set, I would have ranked them Mayfield #1, Rosen & Darnold as #s 2 & 3 depending on my mood that day, and Allen & Jackson as #s 4 & 5 being more athletes than QBs. Mayfield went to an organization whose coaching staff at the time was pretty much a clown show, Rosen and Darnold both went to dumpster fires of an organization, and Allen & Jackson go to organizations who were "all in" as far as developing them as well as forming a team around their strengths. I think Baltimore always figured they were going to end up with Jackson so they started to form the team in his image before they even drafted him giving him a bit of a head start on Allen. If you look at those same QBs today, I think you'd have to list them as Allen & Jackson 1 & 2 with Allen being the slightly better "traditional" QB but less of an athlete than Jackson, so depending on your preference on style of play they fall in whatever order you want. Mayfield (once the old coaching regime was ousted) in my opinion is #3 but he may be able catch up with Allen & Jackson. Darnold comes in a distant 4th,the Jets organization is a dumpster fire and I really don't see them righting the ship in the near future. And Rosen, poor poor Rosen, I don't think the Cards knew what they wanted to do to develop him from the get go, then their new coach brings in "his guy" Rosen gets traded to Miami to be their third string QB ... poor guy ... we may never get to see what he could have done. To make a long story short, football is not only STILL the ultimate team sport but the front office has become an important part of that team. With the salary cap and free agency the organization has to be adept in gathering talent and KEEPING them together. Gone are the days when a rich owner can open his wallet, amass the most talented team in the league, and those players were bound to that team until the owner wanted them gone. If Josh Allen continues on his current trajectory, and has a long and illustrious career, nobody will remember his first two years of "growth", Darnold and Rosen may NEVER get two stable years to grow.

Especially if a handful of Bills players get infected in Tenn. just sayin'

I wasn't surprised the first game. The Jets strength on their defense is their front seven, I believe they ended up as one of the top teams in the league last year against the run. I was a bit surprised the second game because the Dolphins defense is stronger on the back end than they are up front. For those saying Singletary needs to develop ... didn't he average somewhere in the 5 yards per carry neighborhood last year ... what do you want him to develop into?

I've been to many home games. My favorite experience was the last game in the Rock Pile. I don't remember who we were playing, or what the score was, but what makes it my favorite was after the game my dad and older brothers pull out tools from their coats and start disassembling the seats. I ask them what the heck they're doing and my dad says, "I've been sitting here since 1960, I PAID for these seats, I'm taking them home." We carried the set of four seats out of the stadium and onto the bus and no one said a word, no one even looked at us funny. To me that epitomizes the atmosphere of those "early days" of being a Bills fan. You wanna roll a keg into the stadium and set it up in the aisle ... go right ahead ... wanna bring in your grill and cook in the bleachers ... nooooooo problem. I don't know what ever happened to those seats, dad is long gone now, but if I had to guess one of my brothers has them to this day. My least favorite was the home opener against the Chargers a few years ago. My son (early 20's) was born and raised in Florida, but like the good dad I am, raised a Bills fan. We were sitting around talking one day and he mentions that we've gone to Bills games pretty much all over the country, but never to a home game. He says he's heard of the legendary tailgate parties and he'd like to see it as a Bills fan, kind of a pilgrimage to Mecca sort of thing. My lovely bride looks at me and says he's right you know, you've turned the poor boy into a Bills fan and they've pretty much sucked his entire football life, you owe him. Sooooo I jump on the internet, pay way too much for a couple of primo seats, and decide we'll go up a few days early and stuff ourselves with good pizza, royal subs, beef on weck, Labatts Blue, frozen custard and top it off with a good drubbing of the Chargers to end the perfect father son weekend. As we're flying up I think I really should show him where I keep my Medicare card just incase an emergency should happen (I'm not as young as I used to be). I decided against it because I want him to have fun and not be worrying about the mortality of his broken down father. If you remember it was hot that day ... really HOT. We got to hammers lot at about 8:30 in the morning, joined in all the festivities, did the field house stuff, wandered around and enjoyed ourselves. By game time my butt was dragging, I couldn't stop sweating, nothing I did would get me cool, but I put on a brave face determined to not spoil my sons day. The one concession I made was switching from beer to water to try and rehydrate. As the game went on I was getting worse and worse. By the middle of the fourth quarter I decided to go into the tunnel to try and cool off, I told my son if I didn't return by the end of the game to meet me in the tunnel. I must have been real pale because a number of fans stopped and asked if I needed assistance, but I declined and slowly slumped to sit down trying to stop the stadium from spinning. I swear to God the only thought running through my head was the vision of my son coming to meet me in the tunnel and finding the lifeless body of his father propped up by the concession stand. I was beating myself up about deciding to not show him my Medicare card, and worrying that the trauma of his father dying and the Bills loosing the home opener may be too much for him and turn him into a Dolphins fan or something. To end the story, I didn't die, my son and I hooked up after the game, and when we got back to the hotel I took an icy cold shower and set the air conditioning on stun. After a couple of hours I was back to my old self. In discussing the days events we decided the mistake I made was switching to drinking water, the only LOGICAL explanation was that I ended up with a tainted bottle of water, and if I had stuck with beer I would have been just fine. Well ... that was our diagnosis and we're sticking to it.

IMHO I think ... or rather I hope ... the game mirrors the Chiefs/Texans game. I'm one of those guys who really wants to see Josh passing for more yards however, I think we should dominate this game from the get go so Josh Doesn't NEED to pass for a ton. I want to see efficient passing/running to start off but when we build up a lead throttle down the passing game and pass only when we need to. I'd be overjoyed with scoring 31 to 34 points and Josh only having 200 yards passing.
