Bills vs. Jets Postgame and Bye Week News
FLFan replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It is not only possible that we surprised a poorly coached team, and that Barkley will regress to back up level, it is a virtual certainty. He has been in this league for six years and has had a few good games. He has also been with six different teams for a reason. He did not suddenly become something he is not after 1 week with the Bills. Allen is the QB of this team and needs to play. -

Not even a question. Barkley may have played himself into a backup job, but Allen plays the rest of the way. -
Gaines released....Wallace promoted
FLFan replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Gaines was the weakest link on the defense. He was not brought in to start at outside corner and it showed. Good move. -
I suppose it can be debated how you define tanking, but it was obvious when virtually all available resources were spent to build the defense and draft a QB, while virtually nothing was spent on the rest of the offense, that while they were hoping for the best, they were not really planning to win this year. Call it what you will. The hysteria around here is comical.

McD - Allen isn't too far off in throwing again
FLFan replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I see your point, but do not agree. It seems totally distracting to me in practice and a waste of a valuable resource that could either yield a premium player at a need position, or two or more very good players and potential starters in a trade down scenario. I would not be opposed to the Bills using a later round pick on a promising developmental type to be third string behind (hopefully) a competent veteran to back Allen up. (finally ending the great Peterman experiment) -

Then he needs to get all the reps as #1, not some half baked competition. This is the price for drafting a QB. They need the time and the reps, and if it does not work out it sets you back. Giving him half a year this year, with an injury thrown in the middle, and minimum reps during the training camp because of this year's idiotic three way competition, is not going to yield a yes or no answer no matter what happens the rest of this year. The Bills have many other holes to address with a top 5 pick, if that is where they end up. Fix the OL, add some skill position players, and see what he can do with a full year as unquestioned number 1. -

Well, at least you gave him a fair chance to develop. -
Lets not forget "excape". Whoever had the idea of putting this guy on Monday night broadcasts ought to be fired.

MNF Game day thread - Pats vs Bills

Apparently not to find a starting quality backup middle linebacker. There must be 31 other teams with one of those. -

I can't believe I actually just saw that. Way to play to lose. -
Pats suspending Josh Gordon for 1st quarter for tardiness
FLFan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Some things, and people, never change. I suspect the Pats will try to squeeze as much out of him as they can this year and then move on. -
That would certainly be the pattern. They seem to have some good talent stockpiled. It would actually be a shame to see it wasted. (sort of )

Bills Being Very Active approaching Trade Deadline?

Does Dunkirk Don have a new twitter account? -
Jackson should have been fired after last season and that idiot Haley should never have been hired. They were simply making the damage worse by letting them stick around week by week. The owner should get out of the way and let Dorsey run it, and perhaps this is a sign of that happening.

Did McCoy Quit or Did the Bills Shelve Him?
FLFan replied to Gugny's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow Gug - 2 injury conspiracy threads in 3 weeks. You are on a roll. ? -
I already explained my logic in a previous post, but in the real world, QB production is ultimately gauged by wins and losses. He lost last night, as he a,ways does. His team scored 6 points in the second half. That's is not good production. He is a semi- adequate backup at this point. Yes, I wish he was our backup because I certainly think he is better than Peterman. Your conclusions in comparing him to Allen are faulty.
-
Not to worry - I am sure he is fabulous shape after sitting on his couch all year, has used his superior experience to mind meld with the playbook, and does not even need any practice to get in synch with the team. Should go very well. Should have just cut Peterman to satisfy the mob and signed another guy off the street to be the backup QB while they were at it. What incompetence.

What I heard him say during his WGR interview last week, in response to a question from John Murphy about why he did not sign with anyone during free agency, he said that he had a number of calls but "nothing felt right". When asked if the Bills were one of those teams that called, he said "maybe" and chuckled. Could have been money, could have been the situations he was being asked to join, could be he was not sure he wanted to play. Obviously they were persistent. He may well have been their top target all along.

The situations are so completely different that your comparison makes absolutely no sense. But here are a few additional facts for you: - CJ Beathard is 1/8 in games he has started, including 1/5 last year and 0/3 this year. Funny how they win with Garrappolo and not Beathard. - His completion % last year was 54.9% with 4 TDs and 6 INTs; sounds like a bit of a rough start, no? - His numbers are better this year - 6TDs and 5 INTs and completion % of 64%. Gee, maybe a full year in the league helped him some. Maybe his WRs are too for that matter. Still, that TD/INT ration is going to lead to losses. - Still can't win, but does throw for yards, which is of course is the most important thing in evaluating young QBs. - CJ Beathard is on his way to hitting his ceiling as a decent career backup, although he is not there yet. Stats can tell any story you want to make up to fit the stats. Your comparison is BS, because the situations and players are not comparable. Next year, maybe.
