  1. I will agree with this. Our current running backs are fine as is, we are a pass first team now. However, neither Singletary or Moss has good speed and it does show. If we we had an RB with elite speed that could also catch that would scare the heck out of teams, and probably bring our O the next level. Travis Etienne out of Clemson would be a dream pick late first round.
  2. It was never meant to PROVE anything! You clearly didn't read the entire bottom paragraph of the post which discussed this exact point, which is the impossibility of proving a negative. It doesn't mean there is structural racism, but it also doesn't prove there isn't some unconscious bias. Players of all race get cut early in their careers...
  3. First of all, you don't "prove" propositions. And it wasn't a proposition/suggestion anyway, it was clearly my opinion. Why do I feel more GMs, and particularly coaches, should be black? It's simple, and a matter of common sense. Close to 70% of the NFL player population is black, yet less than 10% of coaches are black. When you have that few black coaches, it's less likely a black coach will be in the stepping stone position to be head coach. You don't have to play professionally to be qualified for HC, sure, but it's a pretty damn important qualification. The numbers don't add up. There are of course several other societal factors outside the bounds of NFL/football that may explain why less black men want to become coaches etc. and help explain the massive disparity, but even still, the numbers shouldn't be THAT far off. Now can I prove the reason more black coaches aren't hired is because they are black? Of course not! It's impossible to prove a negative. For example, RyanC883, can you prove you didn't murder or have someone arranged to be murdered last night? (I'm sure you didn't btw) but it would be impossible for you to PROVE that. Doesn't make it any less true. I don't think the NFL or people hiring are systematically excluding anyone, our even consciously racist, it's a matter of implicit bias, perceived notions, less of a pool, etc. That's why a little nudge to develop these black coaches at the lower levels can't hurt and hopefully provide a greater pool of black candidates. Mandating the hire of a minority as you suggested is idiotic and completely misses the boat on the initiative and what I said in my post (which was actually critical of the new rule). Giving two 3rd rounders to only the developing team is silly and will deter hiring (on merit!) of minority candidates from divisions or even amongst good teams. It will also be exploited without question. But your post misses the boat entirely, and adds nothing worthy to the conversation.
  4. Yeah but that misses the root of the issue, that they aren't enough minorities in stepping stone positions to even be looked at as HC/GM candidates. That's what this initiative is aimed at. By awarding two 3rd rounders to teams that "develop" black candidates, the hope is teams will start hiring them more and more in the stepping stone positions (ie. coordinators and assistant GMs). That's why you can't just award the team that hires the coach, it would happen too infrequently and be ineffective. I agree the rule is idiotic the way it is by only awarding the development team though, as teams would then almost never hire a black gm/hc if it will give a division or conference rival two 3rd rounders. That's why I suggested one 3rd rounder to each team.
  5. Fair enough, not our problem I guess. And I agree with you wholeheartedly that making decisions on anything other than merit rarely works out. But, gosh, are you really going to hand you division rival 2 third round picks if all else is equal or close between two HC/GH candidates? I think it's pretty obvious how that will work out. Also, do you really not think someone like Belichick is not going to exploit the heck of this? There can't possibly be enough third round picks in the world haha.
  6. Yeah but is it a good, well thought out idea? Like did they really think it through, plug up all the loopholes, thing about unintended consequences, etc? Without seeing the actual language of the rules, I'll say probably NOT. As has been stated, compensation seems out of whack and it could very well deter teams in the same conference or divisions from actually hiring a minority coach.
  7. So I am entirely supportive of the initiative, and its unfortunate but sometimes you do need to give people a little push to do the right thing and force the issue. More black people should be in NFL HC and GM positions right now, period. With that said, your point #2 is incredibly valid and may actually deter/frustrate the purpose. Would like to see the actual language of the rules, but it appears they really did not think this through. Maybe they should reward both the hiring and "developing" team, each get one 3rd round?
  8. Actually yeah, I would IF we could get him 3-5 years on an incredibly team friendly deal. Pass coverage LBs that don't mind getting physical are not easy to find, and our defensive scheme depends on having at least 2 that can cover well. His injuries seem more like separate bad luck incidents than chronic, it's not like has bad knees or concussion concerns. When healthy, he is probably the most valuable defensive player we have outside of White. He's also a no drama guy, no character/attitude questions. I'd take the chance
  9. Tough blow, not that he has been playing a lot but still, I was hopeful he was progressing towards full strength. Only silver lining, he might not get top OLB money now given the injury concerns and we can resign him longterm at a discount.
  10. This is lazy. Trevor Lawrence is a better NFL prospect than Tua, no doubt. But they way you just described Tua is exactly how a lot of people described Drew Brees... and Tua's college film is far more impressive. His accuracy/touch is elite. Not saying he's guaranteed to be an NFL star but to be that dismissive this early is short sighted.
  11. Haha yes that is true, he was certainly never one to get his nose dirty or deliver big hits and I probably should have clarified. That is not what people are alarmed about when looking at his film. His effort this year, particularly in tackling the last few weeks, is noticeably different than his play with the pats the last few years. This is not just random opinion from a Bills fan, analysts and Pats fans, including Bruschi and others who have watched every Pat's game film intently over the last few years, have been screaming about this for weeks. It it is well documented in other threads. It is obvious when you watch the film, Gilmore is halfway out the door. the suspicion is that contract talks didn't go well behind the scenes with Belichik and he knows he won't be there long so why put his body on the line. Neither Gilmore or Belichik would ever air it out in the public, not their style, so this theory actually makes a ton of sense. This exactly.
  12. Very interesting... I suspect there is more under the surface here. He happens to "tweak" his knee in practice at the same time trade rumors are floating around about him. It is well documented in other threads that analysts are saying he is not putting his body on the line in games, film shows him avoiding big hits etc. Could be entirely coincidental, but I feel like he is out the door in NE. Silent battle going on between him and Belichik right now.
  13. The teams are mentioned in the article (BAL, NE, DEN a couple others I believe) but it appears the success stories are more anecdotal. It was apparently very helpful for Tucker of Baltimore and McManus of Denver. I know there are limits on the amount of coaches but why the Bills haven't already hired a specific consultant for Bass is beyond me. Like you said, how could it possibly hurt? We are talking a very small expenditure salary wise so money can't be the issue.
  14. https://www.si.com/nfl/2020/09/18/nfl-kicking-coaches-50000-dollar-fix I did not take the article seriously at first but it actually makes a lot of sense, especially for the Bills with Bass being a rookie. Apparently, only 4-5 teams in the NFL have a designated kicking coach or consultant. The point of the article is that unlike any other position, if kickers/punters have a bad kick, there is no one on the staff that they can actually sit down with in game and intimately discuss mechanics/techniques, what may be off and help get their head right. Special teams coordinators typically don't have a kicking background. Could be helpful for the Bills. Thoughts?
  15. Yeah just one so far on the 2020 draft. I'm sure the release/filming schedule got delayed with COVID of course but I haven't seen anything about it announced.
  16. Anyone know when the next Embedded episode is airing? I can't find any information on the 2020 series schedule?
  17. Thanks for proving my point. Instead of offering anything of substance, you just blanketly say that one of the best arm talents in NCAA history is going to be out of the league in four years, with or without injury.... hmmmm yeah ok. You're a joke. I love my Bills but just because a rival team drafts a player doesn't mean I all of abandon clear analysis/eye test. I hate to say it, but Tua is going to be a stud. His chances of being a pro bowler within 4 year far outweigh the changes of him being out of the league.
  18. You clearly don't have the slightest clue as to what you're talking about. As long as his left arm doesn't break the guy is going to be picking people apart from the pocket like Brees. Please do the a modicum of research next time before embarrassing yourself. I went to Clemson and quite frankly can't stand Alabama but your ignorant, unintelligent comment is just too much I can't let it slide.
  19. You clearly have not done your research on Tua (and maybe even know nothing about him?). Yes his arm talent is off the charts, especially his accuracy, but so are his intangibles. Look what people who know him say about his work ethic and, professionalism. Even opposing college coaches and players talk about what a great person he is. He is the epitome of what you want in a franchise quarterback on and off the field. Well spoken, incredibly nice guy from a loving family, never been in trouble, his teammates have the upmost respect for him, etc. He does need to continue to progress with his reads, but what college quarterback doesn't? Oh and his ability rally teammates when things are down? How about coming into the game for an Alabama team that was getting their but kicked in the national championship against UGA at halftime as a true Freshman entirely cold without playing the whole year and leading them back to win with arm? Is that enough of an indicator for you?
  20. I'm sorry but you guys are off on this and yes Chris Simms is an idiot. I watch a ton of college football as well. I went to Clemson so I am no Alabama fan, and I am always wary of overhyping a player with great support cast, particularly with that program, but Tua is an absolute scary good NFL prospect. This is not an Alabama MLB with 3 NFL worthy DL in front of him clearing the way where you can't quite tell from the film. This is a quarterback making jaw dropping throws on a consistent basis. I acknowledge the injury risk, but his arm talent is undeniable and already better than 90% of current NFL Qbs. I have never seen a QB with his touch/accuracy/timing at the college level and he has way more arm strength than Tebow/Leinart. He can sit in the pocket and pick you apart and also keep plays alive like Russel Wilson. His throws on the run are unbelievable. The only guy I can compare his arm talent to is Drew Brees. I'm scared as heck as to what he might do in Miami the next ten years if they can even partially right the ship on their rebuild with the rest of their roster. In my mind he is single handedly the biggest threat the Bills face in the AFCE.
  21. This is the exact point. Everyone understands that they already have their primary guys under contract, that does not mean they will be able to keep all the guys they have signed moving forward if they pay Dak In fact, they for sure will not. Each of their cap hit increases over the next few years. Dallas better win it all in the next two years or they are looking at a total and lengthy rebuild. I would not be putting my chips in Dak's basket but I hope they do.
  22. That's fair, but the point here is that type of QB worth that kind of money, when the entire rest of your roster is now hamstrung. They have to be ELITE talent to carry your team moving forward when you can no longer afford the great Oline and other supporting case that the Cowboys have on offense. Dak won't be able to do that.
  23. Deshaun Watson is objectively, way more talented than Dak. Watch the film, DeShaun carries his team. Dak is a solid QB who does a great job managing the gameplan with a fantastic supporting cast.
  24. This report was fake. Leonard Williams has not agreed to any deal. https://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/articles/report_of_leonard_williams_signing_extension_with_giants_was_false/s1_127_31513007
