Are McBeane secretly creating an elite offense?

It's clear the guys schtick is to be abrasive and contrarian. I'm sure he's tripping over breasts on the way to the restroom. -

I watched the video, it's a great video. Just as coordinators call a run defense or pass defense, they scheme that defense to defend concepts. Without a downfield passing game it allows teams to take out what we do well. Which you don't see in the aggregate, but you see situationally and against certain teams. You will see it more as competition rises. At times the downfield passing game will be absolutely required and not having it hurts our chances for success. I don't mind that we play small ball at times, I would also like a great defense. That doesn't mean we can afford to just not develop one of the most critical positions in a modern day offense. Then design scheme to try and minimize those impacts. It makes us worse no matter what style we choose to play. Again, situationally, it becomes obvious. -
I mean, we aren't Eagles fans. The contempt for McD is literally one thing. Long time fans are desperate to get a ring and they don't believe McD can.

Let me know how balanced we look when either the run game is taken away or we need to pass. Your preview is Atlanta and New England, maybe the divisional round the last two years. Football is situational. The formula that you say is efficient is only efficient with a lead and when we can run. It could be made even more efficient, as it was to some extent last year, with some type of downfield passing threat to keep the box clean. Even if our condensed passing game is efficient, it isn't functional or practical in other situations. Situations that the best teams in the NFL have to excel in to be considered to be the best teams in the NFL. This team has been top 5 in DVOA since 2020. It puts up stats, but fails in having enough ways to win when the defense is rarely one of them. Allen alone, Cook, and a usually hobbled Kincaid are not going to give us a championship team. Again, Beane thinking, why we are here, why we keep doing this year after year. -

This is a great argument, similar to one we heard in the offseason about how we didn't need to add any weapons to the greatest offense in franchise history. What's funny is the video you posted should clearly explain what the pitfalls of this offense are. The entire video is about the necessity for balance to maximize output. How do you think a defense responds to a team that won't throw the ball more than 5 yards downfield? The entire defense starts to condense making all other possible outcomes less successful. What happens in high leverage situations like the last drive of a divisional playoff game where we have to pass in a traditional way and can't be dependent on screens and Cook? Guys can't get open. Beane already sold the snake oil. We don't need anymore. -
Its to make the people critical of him appear irrational or driven by motive. This concept that Bills fans would still complain about McD after we hoist a trophy is one of the most misguided I have ever heard. Will he still get complaints when he does dumb crap? Sure, every coach does. Will anybody be able to to say he can't get it done? No. That argument will be over. Even if we trip and crash land onto the trophy, we will still have it and the noise will go away.

I mean, I don’t disagree that Coleman is being misused, but how incompetent does our GM need to be to draft a guy who can only be successful playing slot when you have a TE, and at least 3 other positions where that is the primary role? If your argument is until Keon becomes a slot he just can’t be evaluated, I just can’t get on board with that because it will never happen here. I can only evaluate what is actually happening and what is likely to keep happening and in that, Franklin is the better performer with a more desirable skill set.

Seems like the arm chair QB’s had a step on the mastermind

The post you responded to was about being perturbed we didn't draft him in the 4th round. You wanted to focus more on Coleman vs Franklin, which to me is an easy conversation. He's the #2 WR for Denver, a burner that can stretch the field. That isn't what we need? Instead we need a big slot when we have 3 other natural slot WR's? It was a dumb pick. I even liked Coleman at the time, but I'm not paid millions of dollars to draft players. Even with how dumb I am, I would have spent the 4th round pick on Franklin as most couch QB's on this site were begging for. Turned out they were all largely right and our GM was wrong.

When Baker was healthy the made the playoffs.

Anybody else have a chance to catch this? They have a live look into the instant replay booth. I love the transparency and being able to listen into the conversation. The process seems clear, transparent, and is very trustworthy. It even brings a nice level of entertainment to the moment when otherwise you're just sitting there watching nothing.

This is a really silly position to dig in on. On one hand you minimize Franklin for having all his production in two games, on the other Coleman has 19 catches 155 yards in the last 6 games. The only reason Coleman has done more statistically in his career is the Bills gave him the spot last year based on his draft position. Franklin has had to earn it. You're trusting Beane's grade at this point, which is fine, but it's not exactly a short list as far as WR's who get drafted early and become nothing nor is Beane shown to be some WR whisperer. Franklins ability to stretch the field is clearly superior and his numbers when factoring in the target share of both offenses are more impressive. Denver actually has some mouths to feed. Coleman should be eating like crazy. What else is crazy is assuming Buffalo is basically using him as a decoy. Nobody cares about Coleman, he can't be a decoy. He's wearing DB's like a Macy's jacket when he's out there. Teams care about a WR with sub 4.4 speed who is 6"3 and can take the top off. Maybe you don't care but I guarantee you McD does after the playoff game last year.

I want to give you a thumbs down for fun, but couldn't agree more. Shakir is elite, but it's a very niche elite YAC skill set, perfect for screens. He's fairly pedestrian downfield or even getting open in the short and intermediary routes. Beasley was basically automatic over the middle of the field within 10 yards on those slants and in routes. He could always get open. The two players couldn't be any more different.

You wouldn't trade Franklin for Coleman straight up?
-
I'm not saying Franklin is a stud by any means when I say he is better than Coleman.
-
If by less catches, less yards, and less TD's you mean more, than you're correct. That's just this year, but since he was a 4th round pick and not a borderline 1st, he wasn't given a starting role. He can also stretch the field. Straight up he's better, has a brighter future, skillset, and was acquired for way less.

Nobody circles the roster like.......
-
This is what bothers me more than even the lack of first round investment. You have well known draft picks like Franklin and Horton who clearly have a skill set we don't as far being able to stretch the field and it wasn't even worth a late flyer.

Jags listening to trade calls for Brian Thomas

Awful take. Can you imagine this place if every poster had skin so thin they had to call out somebody who gave them a thumbs down. If I had to guess it's probably pretty easy to see your veins. -
Might as well be Tony Pepperoni

Which make me nervous about what is occurring on the other end

Very happy for a national TV game. They can be run on and we have a history of both disappointment, but also surprising performances. This team does well when nobody believes in them. Detroit, KC, Baltimore last year........I'm usually a pessimist, but I think we will silence some critics this week (and I have no sound football logic to back that up outside of we can run on them).
-
KC seems to be anointed again, perhaps rightfully so. With no clear leader of the pack in either division, you have to bank on scheme and high leverage plays winning the day. Yet here we are, the vibe being somewhat different at the moment. Our season is very, very, far from over but with great expectations come great disappointment, which is where a lot of fans seem to be coming from. I'm just trying to get a general read on the fan base with this poll. Understood I don't have every option covered, try and pick the one you feel is most accurate.
