People that defend the defense vs scrub quarterbacks just aren't seeing things clearly. We have played good playoff defense against Mac Jones, Mason Rudolph, and a few other back ups. Who cares? Then Lamar Jackson in the wind tunnel game where Josh also did nothing (because neither offense could). Again, WHO CARES? We played a good first half against Baltimore last year. That is our crown jewel thus far. The question mark for this team isn't can the defense be good or will it be good. Both are likely going to be the case. It is about things translating to the postseason. Can they also be good in the divisional round or later where they have nearly the worst EPA defense out of any team in football to make the divisional round since 2020.

I really don't know how much healthier we can expect to be that late in the season. That was the healthiest we have been in years. The idea that Josh Allen entered that game thinking they were "undermanned" and that is why he was wild, is about as wild as anything I have read here. Especially considering the year prior we scored on our first two possessions when we actually DID have severe injuries It will only not be a massive failure to the apologists and homers They were first in total defense in 2021. Literally, #1 in the entire NFL. 5th in total offense that year. Unfortunately we couldn't overcome ourselves. This team HAS played good regular season defense with multiple top 10 finishes. They have never played good playoff defense.

Not to mention it’s not like these guys are struggling to get by at this point. Manning has the biggest NIL deal of anybody at this point.

Beane elaborates on the process of picking Josh Allen

You don’t get the luxury of “process” if that pick doesn’t hit. -
Is there an NFL team with a weaker WR group than the Bills?

This thread is going to be silly in a few more months. I don’t think I want to be on the “WR are good enough” side of it. Good luck all. Bets have been placed. -

I think it's a year we learn more, which means we get closer (or all the way). I have been highly critical of McD, but anybody could see how talent deprived the defense was last year. Can this team play championship caliber defense? That is the big question. We should have the horses this year. We should be able to hold McD and company to solid playoff showing with the roster we have. If that doesn't go well, we should be concerned about our coaching. If it does go well, we should give McD more credit (if you're one that is skeptical). It would seem hard to come out of this year without clarity, but then again that is something we seem really good at.

It seems possible or even likely we would win, but I would say that conversation shifts more to us knowing how to utilize those new assets defensively vs if Allen is being better served in doing so. I don’t have a horse in this race to be honest. I just don’t think we all of a sudden will be in a position to protect leads come playoff time because of this investment. We have had very good defenses prior with very poor playoff results. Is this investment chasing bad money with good? Does that even matter because the talent sucked so much it had to happen regardless? Just not overly confident in that side of the ball fulfilling its destiny as a playoff elite squad. I wish we could have juiced both sides a little but understood we only have so much to go around. We will see, at the very least I’m excited to see what these rookies can do and even more excited to see some actual change to our schemes (I hope). -
Thought Exercise: Best Bills QB (99-2017) who'd be JA17 backup

In our system you want a mobile QB and to limit turnovers. So it’s probably Tyrod, even if he ain’t the best one. -

We had the ball with under 2 minutes back to back years and a chance to take the lead and did nothing. You can pretend that means nothing if you want. You can pretend that these defensive additions will prevent us from that scenario again. You can pretend this group of skilled guys are the type to elevate us in the final moments vs the best in the game. Any degree of logic points to none of that being true. Still doesn’t mean we didn’t need defensive help more. -
Until I see him dipped in molten lava like the terminator I'm assuming it's not over.

It can be both right? I know people are thinking with these defensive additions and the prolific offense we just won't play in anymore close games. But in all likelihood we will have to win at least one game by scoring with under 2 minutes left if we want to win a Super Bowl. Most teams have at least one game like that and sometimes two while they make a run. We have lost back to back years after the defense failed AND the offense failed in that situation. Offensively that failure was largely our skill position players not making critical plays. It is both things. The more nuclear of the two WAS the defense. Just sort of irritating to have so many people act as if the other problem doesn't exist because we score a lot of points in lower leverage spots. I could really care less how many points we score in the regular season or even how many points we score in the playoffs. Do we have the horses to execute in a high leverage spot with the game on the line with the Lombardi on the line? -
Was really talented, could have been a very good pro IMO.

No preference at all. I just clumped a lot of guys together that seemed pretty similar from my view.
-
Does anybody on the list above stand out as not belonging in that list or do they all feel about the same? When you add Gabe Davis to it, does it still feel about the same? I feel like the value of these players is very similar and ranking them is more preference.
-
From my view it would be difficult to say for sure that he wouldn't still be in the conversation to be our #2. Between Palmer, Samuel, and Coleman, none have done anything from a production stand point thus far to suggest they're significant upgrades over Gabe. Now do I actually think one or all of them could be better? Probably. Also possible they're very similar, but it's all nuance to arrive at those conclusions. Gabe had almost 1600 yards and 14 TD's in two seasons here. Is Palmer going to get 800 and 7 this year? If so, that's a really good year. Same with Coleman. Same with Samuel. We spread it out more now, those guys played for different teams, different QB's. Again, you have to get in the nuance to say he's a #4 or #5 now. I don't think he is because he's similar and likely better than Hollins and Hollins played a lot last year. Along with our leadership seemingly really appreciating him more than our fan base ever did. Either way, it's a debatable topic from my view, just as far as what he would be with todays WR group.
-
Been calling this out for awhile now. Supporting socialistic policy works for his base because it’s more in support of poor white people vs poor minorities.

When we try and determine the impact of Allen and the general talent level of the Bills receiving core the case study should be on Gabe Davis. Davis was our #2 leading WR in 2022 and 2023 only behind Diggs. Similar WR room as we see today. Sure, Shakir broke out a bit more, but Kincaid, Knox, then 2-3 Jamison Crowder, Mac Hollins, Trent Sherfield types. Maybe Samuel and Palmer are a step up from those players, but not multiple steps up. The mold is basically a journeyman type or guy who never broke out. We have signed so many of these players over the last few years and none hit production levels that Gabe did in his time here. So would Gabe come in here and be competitive for the number #2 spot almost right away? I think he would, and that's all you really need to know about how strong the group is we have. A guy Jacksonville doesn't even want is good enough to be our #2.

I can see Dalton Kincaid's shadow in this photo which means football will start in about 4 months

How much do you think his package weighs?
-
I think you're 40 LB's over what you actually are
-
Because no player in NFL history has done everything possible to make the perception of them as strong as they could at the combine.
-
I think we are agreeing on him by the way. I have had your exact profile at different ages, 5% or less and 12-14% BF. When I was 200 with sub 5% body fat I was totally shredded. If I added another 25 pounds to that frame which is his equivalent at 6'4 240 I would have been barely able to move my arms. He's 220 or less for sure.
