Trade down and take Pat Freiermuth
whorlnut replied to whorlnut's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe so, but Beane has been very involved in looking to upgrade this off-season. He’s the one calling the shots. -
It’s kind of clear at this point that Beane wants to upgrade TE. I highly doubt Hollister is the upgrade that he envisions. He made a run at guys like Gronk, Jonnu Smith, and Zach Ertz, among others. Ertz might still happen, but if it doesn’t, I could see him maybe targeting Pat Freiermuth in the draft. Freiermuth’s nickname is “Baby Gronk” and while that might be too high of praise, it speaks of his skill set. He is very athletic and attacks the seam. Elite size for the position. I would like to see a trade down into the top of the second to take Freiermuth, and pick up another top 75 pick to use to go after an edge, corner, or lineman. With the way Beane has been aggressive this off-season to upgrade TE, I just can’t see him staying with what he has. Penn State’s pro day is this week. We will see...

I had mine repurposed to a Diggs jersey...
-
Well I hope someone gives him directions out of town...

Try telling this to guys like the Bosa’s and Chase Young. I guess my point is that unless you have an elite pass rusher, then I somewhat agree with you. I’m not excited at all about taking an edge at 30 anymore, because we would be looking at the fourth or fifth edge off the board at that point. It’s already a fairly weak draft at that position. We could get a better player at that spot than going for a second rate edge prospect.

Draft Kadarius Toney...
-
Sign me up.

This was exactly what I thought about this move. I really thought they needed to shake things up a little. By bringing back the same line it means we are unlikely to improve as a run team. This is a pass first offense, but it bites us in big games because no one respects our run game. I’m feeling very meh about this signing. I was really getting hyped about the possibility of a first round lineman to replace Feliciano. Oh well...
-
That’s fine but Beane doesn’t trade back. If anything, he’ll identify a guy he loves and move up to get him. At the very least I feel we will stay at 30 and take someone there. Don’t see this happening at 30. You might get a decent DE at 30, but all the “game changers” will most likely be gone by then.

I could get used to Humphrey as our pick at 30...
-
This is a very interesting question. I didn’t even think of this, but I imagine he did.
-
With the signings of Milano and Williams, I can’t see us being able to retain Feliciano as well. Humphrey would go along nicely with Ford as a guard until it’s time for Morse to move on. Morse was nearly released this year and is another concussion away from possible retirement. It wouldn’t be bad to try to get someone in the pipeline.
-
With the Milano signing, I can’t see us retaining Daryl Williams. I think OT at 30 has to be the play since we can’t afford to have a let off in play at RT. Protecting Allen and improving the run game has to be the priority. Jenkins kills two birds with one stone. Well I sort of hope they get him because I don’t think he’s gonna be anything special. Most people last year were terrified of the dolphins getting Tua and I was all for it. Never thought he’d be anything and so far I’ve been right on that. He’s a left handed Tyrod Taylor imo.

Who's your pick for a breakout season?
whorlnut replied to BruceVilanch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agree...I think people are sleeping on this guy. Our “need” at CB2 might not be as large as we think. Jackson showed a lot of potential when he was on the field last year. -
Looks like he doesn’t have faith in BoJo...
-
Exactly. Jenkins is the highest rated player on the list and likely the only one that is worth picking in the first.

What About Watson for Jag's No. 1 Pick?
whorlnut replied to st pete gogolak's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It’s laughable that this is even a topic. Lawrence to Jax is a virtual lock. -
Whatever you say... And he drops routine ones fairly regularly too...
-
Well here are my thoughts on that...he’s not all of a sudden going to start catching everything that hits his hands. He just doesn’t seem to be reliable. He may still be learning the position, but you can either catch or you can’t. He seems way too unreliable in that regard...

Gunner's 2021 FINAL Mock Draft on PAGE 21
whorlnut replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Here’s the thing...I don’t necessarily mean a WR when I say playmaker. It could be an athletic TE like Pat Freiermuth or we could be sitting in a good spot to get one of the top RBs. -

Corner is probably the one position that would make me break a tv on draft night... -

Dane Jackson played very well in limited snaps as a rookie. Again...not a big need. Let him and Wallace duke it out for CB2 and that will be good enough. What isn’t good enough is out offensive line if we lose Williams and Nsekhe. Or our DE room at the moment with Addison and Hughes not getting younger and Epenesa struggling as a rookie. And I keep saying...you need to score points with teams like the chiefs. Another weapon on offense for Allen would take this offense over the top. -

I just can’t get behind a first round corner in any way. Not even close to our biggest need. We need to add an athletic edge, playmaker on offense, or an OT. -
Bills prospect Syracuse CB Ifeatu Melifonwu

30 is WAY too early for corner imo. We have guys that can compete and play well for CB2. Dane Jackson played well when he got snaps. Get me a playmaker on offense, an offensive tackle, or a twitchy edge at 30. We need to be able to keep up with the chiefs in a shootout. We also might lose Daryl Williams in FA so we will need a RT. As far as edge goes...if we can’t get a twitchy guy that can set the edge and terrorize the qb, then please don’t take one. We already have a slug in Epenesa. Please don’t draft the same player two years in a row with our first pick. We already drafted similar running backs two years in a row and we are still at a need for that position. -
RD 2, Pick 54: DE AJ Epenesa, University of Iowa

So we can ignore that the number one defense lost to the number one offense earlier in the playoffs. Ok...whatever supports your stance. We get star back next year and that addition will raise the level of play with the players we already have on defense. It will allow Oliver to eat from star taking up doubles. That opens up a lot for our pass rush.
