Correct me if im wrong, but isn't Phillips primarily a #3 tech backup to Oliver. Which to me means they aren't happy with Sanders. Another 2nd round pick that Beane traded up for. I dont think I've read anything positive or to be honest negative about Sanders. Kind of non-descript camp which is a shame for 41st overall selection

Taron times 2! Had no idea about the other 101 yard INT return! Pretty sure I was at the Steve Freeman one but I was only 8 at the time and dont remember much of the game itself.

We only have one lifetime... most of us have been around long enough to see great seasons of football. Enjoy the games. Nobody is taking that away from you. But without a SuperBowl win with the best QB in the league its a failed season.

Why did Buechele start and play the entire game?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to DeepPass's topic in The Stadium Wall
To be fair, I think most hoped he would outplay Trubisky because no one has any faith in Trubisky. Looks like White failed the test. Like you said. Waive him and there is a very good chance he is still available mid year if catastrophe strikes. It wont matter if Allen misses even a few games. The roster is not good enough to carry Trubisky. The run game works best because of the QB threat. The defense can't stop anyone when it matters. Without a lead to work with they would get scorched. It's all on Allen. -
But what about the cap hit? Afraid we are stuck with Allen for a while...

Why Landon Jackson is the next MONSTER in the NFL
Ethan in Cleveland replied to MJS's topic in The Stadium Wall
He is the classic high motor marginal talent white defensive end. I think its a rule for the franchise to have at least one per season. He's the complement to Bosa just as Ryan Denney was to Aaron Schobel. -
Trades around the league have begun
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall
Vikings backup QB Howell traded to Eagles for pick swap. Carson Wentz signed as backup. Sixth team in six years! Ah to be a back up QB millionaire!!! -
61 yards against Miami says a different story

Making room for Simmons??? Well done! Bringing culture to the masses!

Why did Buechele start and play the entire game?

Because even McDermott knows these games are meaningless. He was taking very little chances for guys that are in the top 40 roster spots. -
The Bills Have a Shavers Problem?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to KOKBILLS's topic in The Stadium Wall
Shavers probably makes it but also probably doesn't dress. He's realistically 3rd outside WR after Palmer and Coleman. If one of those guys misses a few weeks then he could dress on game day. He's not taking inside reps. He's not a gadget guy like Samuel. He's not taking red zone reps from Coleman and Kincaid. And he's not returning kicks. That leaves gunner which we dont even know if he us any good at. Nice story but if he actually plays then they are probably not in a good spot with injuries. -
Yeah that is not a bad idea. Obviously Hairston getting hurt messes everything up. But he wasnt even beating out White in camp. Safety and CB is an absolute disaster right now. It’s not alarmist when it is true. Bills are possibly going to start two guys in White and Hamlin that wouldnt even make most NFL rosters.
-
Not signing another veteran even before White was hurt was silly. Now with White hurt not bringing in Douglas or another vet is ego and hubris that will cost the team. The secondary is a frickin mess bordering on season destroying disaster right now. Time to stop messing around and use some draft picks to fix it.

Josh Allen will not play against Tampa ?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think so too. Thats an indictment on the backups not a testament to Hamlin's ability. But given how frail Rapp and Bishop are I wouldn't play Hamlin either today. -
Preseason - Around the League

Yeah. Washington, Chargers then Browns I think -
Preseason - Around the League
Ethan in Cleveland replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
If Bass can't go, Browns have a PK battle right now. They may go with rookie over Hopkins. Hopkins could be a stop gap if Bass isn't 100% -
Josh Allen will not play against Tampa ?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall
They started slow last year against the Cardinals and the first string players got plenty of preseason reps. Preseason is meaningless. If Hairston was healthy, he would be the only starter I would let get a series or two of reps. Other than that every starter and prominent backup like Johnson and Knox should not even dress. If Hamlin is going to be on the 53 as safety number 3( which I hope he is not) theb hexshouldbr dress either. Should be Davis and Gore getting all the RB reps. Shavers Shenault and the gang of PS WRs get the WR reps. Will be interesting to see if Andresen sucks again. Carter too. Those two are playing themselves off the roster. -
I never said wall of fame. Agree his tenure wasnt long enough. That would be like putting Bryce Paup on the wall of fame. The question was, was Diggs good? And we seem to agree he was great while here. We are quibbling over the era argument. You are correct but that only means that 88 catches in 1988 was amazing while its not that great in 2022. However when you compare to peers at the time the era doesn't matter. Lots of other teams at the time where run first too, like Dallas with Smith.
-
The different era argument doesn't really hold water. Compared to their peers at the time Diggs was more dominant than Reed ever was. Tim Brown had 9 seasons in a row over 1000 yards. Irvin 7 of 8 seasons in a row with over a thousand yards and the one season he did not he played in only 11 games and still had 962. Reed never led the league in receptions or yards. Diggs did both. I'm not trying to disparage the greatness that Andre Reed was. His run after catch and toughness are legendary. However what Diggs did in three years in Buffalo was extraordinary regardless of era or scheme.

100% agree. Put him on IR for the year. He is on the roster for 2026 not this year.

McDermott - "Still looking for that other safety"
Ethan in Cleveland replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
Beane drafted Hamlin and Johnson and I beleive at least one other guy to develop. And of course brought in Rapp. He tried. Beane wastes a pick or two every year moving up for a player. Maybe that explains lack of depth at certain places. As for Milano, he drafted two LBs in Williams and Bernard that could both play his spot while still waiting to see if Edmunds coudl play. Dont recall other LBs before that. Also had Kleine and Spector. So they had some depth along the way. The reality is there is often a significant drop off from starter to 2nd team. It's not like college where there is just another 4 or 5 star recruit waiting his turn. -
In hindsight of course they would have. Great WR on a rookie deal would have been amazing. But the trade was the second best move Beane has done as GM. Andre never even had back to back 1000 yard seasons. He was a great player but the excellence we saw at WR with Diggs for three years is better than any other three year period in franchise history.

Bills hosting Gabe Davis for visit
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'd rather see Cooper back. So should Beane call and apologize to the radio guys he yelled at? Seems they were right about WR. -
James Lofton YPG and TD/game was better than Reed's too. 8 TDs in only 9 Bills playoff games. Belichick specifically designed a defense to take away Reed. Probably lots of playoff defenses target the #1 WR. Doesn't mean Lofton was better than Reed or Davis was a better WR than Diggs. If anything it means Kelly and Allen were mostly ( Allen >>>> Kelly) willing to take what the defense was giving. 100% agree with this. If Moulds had Kelly or Allen for most of his career he would have been compared with TO. Both with great size and speed. In terms of WR skill, it is Moulds, Diggs, Reed, Lofton, Butler in that order for me. Obviously that is not production but if you asked who are the most skilled WRs to play on Bills. Im leaving TO off as he was only here a short time at end of career.

Stefon Diggs in 9 playoff games with the Bills had 47 (5.1/game) receptions for 600(66.7/game) yards and 2 TD. Andre Reed in 21 playoff games had 85(4.2/game) receptions for 1229 yards (58/game) and 3 TDs So Diggs per playoff game stats are better in every category than the most productive WR in Bills history. Please go ahead and spin your narrative (different era, 80's teams had other options, Kelly not as good as Allen etc etc etc) to contradict my facts. I have too much to do but I'm going to guess most great WRs have lesser stats in the playoffs when they are playing the best teams. So yeah Diggs was absolutely amazing! His tenure with the Bills is the best 3 seasons of WR play in franchise history. You can hate his personality but please do not diminish what he did on the field.
