Fix the OT Rule for Playoff Games--That was Stupid
Nextmanup replied to Nextmanup's topic in The Stadium Wall
This is basically what I would advocate. If the teams are exhausted, great! Should be easier to score and resolve the game. But let the game be decided by full service, normal, football on the field, not a random coin toss. No need for gimmicks either. -
McDermott end of season press conference
Nextmanup replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
How is that different than any other day of the year?! 🤔 -
I voted "trade him for picks" but I don't think he has a huge trade market and that route may well not work. So consider my vote "try" to do that.

Do you want KC to cruise to the Super Bowl title?
Nextmanup replied to Charles Romes's topic in The Stadium Wall
The only team I can see giving them some trouble, maybe, would be the Rams. They will destroy the Bengals and would likely kill the 49ers too. -
Fix the OT Rule for Playoff Games--That was Stupid
Nextmanup replied to Nextmanup's topic in The Stadium Wall
Since the OT rule change in 2010, there have been ELEVEN (11) playoff games that went to overtime. In those eleven, the teams that won the coin toss are 10-1! TEN AND ONE! You don't see an issue there, huh? It's a HUGE issue and watch! It might well be addressed this off-season. -
Do you want KC to cruise to the Super Bowl title?
Nextmanup replied to Charles Romes's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don't want the Chiefs to win, but if they win it all and maybe even win it all easy, the Bills suddenly look like a really SOLID team. And I like THAT. So yes, let the Chiefs win it all even though I won't totally be happy about it. If the Chiefs get beat at home by the Bengals, the Bills look much more Billsy in the traditional vein. -
What are the top three worst losses in franchise history?
Nextmanup replied to VaMilBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
This is my 3 in the right order too. 🙌 -
I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that they were more or less normal Canadian boys despite all the fame and money. They remained "normal" and level headed and got a lot of longevity out of that. Reminds me of the guys in U2, I think most of whom don't drink alcohol and are very stable people. Which explains why they've been around forever as well. Sting is another guy in that mold, and he's been around forever as well. Other "artists" are a little unstable and burn out fast.

Don't think I've seen this one but that redhead is a cutie! Very "interesting" face. 😛

Home Equity Line vs borrowing from 401K vs personal loan
Nextmanup replied to Royale with Cheese's topic in Off the Wall
Don't go by what a financial institution will loan you! That is almost certainly a lot more than you can afford...or at least it might be. Figure out if you can afford all of this first and I personally wouldn't finance big project like this unless I had some cash to contribute to it. I wouldn't want to finance the whole thing. -
You guys are both wrong! You are thinking of Nick O'Leary, who was the grandson of Arnold Palmer! He also authored a line of children's books centered around a character named Darby the dinosaur.

I'd be all over this acquisition. He played T at Iowa--I wonder if he could get by at Center in a pinch. Beane and McDermott greatly favor OLmen who can play all up and down the line. We need to get some QUALITY guys on this line, and fast.

If they build the new stadium in OP and design it in a certain way to maximize crowd noise, we might, despite fewer fans. I'm not an acoustical engineer however.

GREAT STORY---THANKS FOR THIS. I've never heard something like that before. Ironically, I was just thinking about that game like 5 days ago---I was now somewhat fuzzy on the details (watched it live at the time of course) and re-watched a video of all the excitement on youtube to refresh my memory of events. So that is very fresh in my mind. That's cool that you heard a roaring crowd 2 miles away in your home.

It is certainly fair to suggest that for a while there, the knock on Andy Reid was he couldn't win the big game. I remember like 5 years ago Mike Schopp making a quip on the radio that he would NEVER take KC on a bet in the playoffs b/c Andy Reid has "won nothing". He made a big deal out of it at one point in time... He's shut up on that point in more recent years!

Disagree on that. I'm OK with more than 3 coaches in 50 years. Bills fans have an irrational fear of coaching changes because we have made a thousand of them in our history, and almost all of them were horrible decisions. 😂 That doesn't mean a coaching change has to be inherently feared or somehow bad moving forward.

With McDermott, you can't let the perfect be the enemy of the good
Nextmanup replied to Success's topic in The Stadium Wall
There will forever be a contingent of Bills fans who want to support and retain Beane/McDermott basically FOREVER because they turned around an irrelevant franchise. There is also a contingent (probably including mostly the same people) who will FOREVER be afraid of a coaching regime change because they fear the new guy will be Dick Jauron reincarnated. Neither should be the basis for decision making moving forward. Comparing ANYTHING to the drought era is ridiculous and shouldn't be done, and living in fear of change is not a good reason to avoid change, if it is needed. McDermott is NOT out of lives NOW. He still has X amount of time to get it done. The exact value of X is unknown, though Pegula may have an idea. If we don't get over the hump in X years, it will absolutely be time to discuss moving on from McDermott. And I am a BIG Beane supporter, but the drafting needs to get a lot better. -
The reality is that win probability on an onside kick in that situation would have to be WAY LESS than simply kicking off in a normal fashion. I don't have the exact numbers on that, but that would be my guess. The plan might "sound" convincing to you, but it would be unbelievably risky and likely to fail.

The whole thing is idiotic--I've seen a thousand times now, unfortunately. Though it may well appeal to their audience. Still always nice to look at Halle Berry though!

Chief Fans Make Donations to Childrens Hospital

Wow, you are sour grapes and have some healing to do before a simple loss in a football game eats you up! -
Chief Fans Make Donations to Childrens Hospital
Nextmanup replied to BuffaloBillyG's topic in The Stadium Wall
No. It's more like a praising of the "Miracle of the 13 seconds" and donating to Allen's charity is a nice gesture. A way of their fanbase saying "Hell of a game, Josh." Who says KC fans aren't solid?! They are every bit a solid as us. Buffalo and KC are at the very top of the NFL fanbase food chain. -
I think it depends on what you think of McDermott to begin with. Those who support him will be inclined to believe something like this rumor. Those who dislike him will assume it's a lie fabricated to protect his reputation. I would hope he's smart enough to have wanted a different kick than what he got--but then again--he does come across like a glorified gym teacher and always has.

Something like the rumors in the OP make as much as sense as anything. If anything, despite the confusion and chaos, it shines a more positive light on McDermott specifically, and the coaching staff in general. If this is all true, it is of course totally unacceptable, but it doesn't surprise me that it happened---if it did. Confusion often prevails in battle. "War is the realm of uncertainty; three quarters of the factors on which action in war is based are wrapped in a fog of greater or lesser uncertainty." -Carl von Clausewitz

I think there is a contingent of Bills fans out there that would argue in support of retaining Daboll, promoting him to head coach HERE, and letting McDermott go. That may not be a bad idea. It may not be the right idea, either...but it merits consideration.
