Troy Aikman is dumb as a rock. That was clearly a designed play.

Worst (regular season) coached game in the entire McD era
CincyBillsFan replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
Also with the poor pass protection and a couple of holding calls Allen had to be aware of the danger of losing the game on a Texan safety if there was holding in the end zone or he was sacked or grounded the ball. So he wasn't going to sit in a collapsing pocket and calmly survey the field. It was basically one read and throw. -
Allen strikes me as the type of teammate who is committed to making lemonade out of lemons. He has talked up every receiver he had. Allen seems to like every receiver Bean puts out there. But I see no evidence that Allen is "controlling the roster" in any way. As for Diggs are we going to ignore the guys history with the Vikings or the repeated inappropriate comments by his brother? Allen did not drive Diggs away Diggs wanted out. Diggs read the room and clearly saw the type of offense that McD wanted to run his brand of complimentary football. Say what you will abut Diggs but he knew his targets were going to go way down in the new McD offense. And don't kid yourself this is McD's not Brady's O. My sense is that if Bean approached Allen and said we were trading away Knox and a draft pick to get Cooper Allen would be fine with it and would throw Knox a huge going away party. In fact I would submit that Allen is to accommodating. Allen believes he can lift the play of any WR and communicates that to Bean & McD. This lets Bean & McD off the hook in providing their elite QB with the skill [layers needed to function at the top of his game. Going forward I hope Allen takes a more forceful approach with roster decisions on the offense.

Are we figured out already? The issues as I see them
CincyBillsFan replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
This is a great observation. Once Nico Collins went down Stroud played poorly generating only 3 FG's of offense (2 of which were 50+ yard kicks) and had 2 bad TO's. No matter how good the QB is you must have at least one skill player who is a true threat to take it to the house on any play. -
Ideally that pass would be thrown to the outside and over the right shoulder every time to avoid the safety. And I don't think Allen is watching what shoulder the WR is looking over 50 yards down the field.

Great play by Coleman on a 4th down pass. Bernard INT gave the offense the ball at their own 19 yard line. BTW that was a drive that started at the Texans 13and they drove it down to our 30. After the fumble recovery the first snap was taken by Turbisky leaving only 2 for Allen. Defense played well in the 2nd half but was piss poor in the first half enabling the Texans to get out to a 17 - 3 lead.

Wrong. Hollins was slow and he turned first inside then outside to track that ball. His lack of experience at the receiving end of deep throws cost us that TD. Allen threw a great ball to the outside if Hollins runs the end of the pattern correctly.
-
This might be a bigger deal then folks think and not in a good way. To be fair Bishop played well in the 2nd half.

Brady never had a WR group that could go an entire game and not get open. On the couple of times guys got open down field - Coleman on the TD, Kincaid on the big gainer to the 5 and Hollins on the crosser Allen hit them. And on the long pass to Hollins a real NFL receiver makes that catch. Hollins turned inside when in fact he had to be looking for the ball on the outside which is where a QB wants to put it. And I'm not trashing Hollins who looks like a great ST player. But judas Priest, he's not a deep threat WR. And why do you think Allen had anything to do with bringing this group in? If Allen had any say he would be all about signing a big time vet or giving away the fram to move up and nab one of those lottery WR picks. As for Diggs, he wanted out I suspect largely because he didn't want to play in a McD "complimentary" offense.

Stroud is not Mahomes and the Texans best WR was injured. And for the record it's going 10 yards in 7 seconds. -

Well we ran a play without Allen then I saw zero separation on the next two plays. -

Actually I thought he made a lot of on target throws that this group of WR's couldn't make a play on the ball because it's a WR group of special team players, developmental rookies and practice squad guys. Remember the ball hitting Coleman in the helmet on that read option play? If Allen is sick it's that unless he carries the ball himself 15 times they can't run an offense with what they have on the field. -

Total lack of talent of the Bills WR's without Shakir. -

I've been told that we have one up in the booth though it sure looked like a catch to me. Also at that point in the half we had the TO to spare. -

And at their worst the Chiefs haven't fielded a WR group as bad as this one. With Shakir out that is a practice squad group. I'm hoping Coleman will develop but Samuel looks like a bust like Harty & Sherfield. -

You run the ball three straight times. Hell maybe you pick up the first down. You likely gain at least a couple of yards. They use all 3 TO's and all you have to do to force OT is protect the boundary. Given the almost total lack of talent at the WR position even getting a first down with 3 straight passes was a long shot. Like I said before I was agnostic about McD but this was so bad that combined with his failure to challenge the Kincaid catch I'm done. The Bills could do better, a lot better. -

I wouldn't have been mad. When they downed the ball at the 4 there was no realistic chance they could get into FG range. In fact there was more of a chance that the Bills would hold while Allen was in the end zone and lose the game on a safety. Run three straight times and you almost guarantee OT. -

Disagree. Three straight runs would have likely gained 5 yards and even if the punt is the same they have 7 seconds with no TO's. Protect the boundary and anything competed on the playing field runs the clock out. For me, who has been agnostic on the matter of keeping or firing McD this is the straw that broke the camels back. -

10%? How about 1%. What were they thinking? So today McD doesn't challenge the Kincaid catch along the sideline and then whatever the hell that was at the end of the game. How long are we going to put up with this crap? -

Three straight runs uses up all the Texans TO's and they can't run the play they did. Fire McDermitt -

Wow, Darnold has turned into the Darnold we all knew.

A real limitation of older QB's like Rogers is that on both 3rd & 4th & short he doesn't represent a threat to run.
