Training Camp practice 8/3: Pads come on
NoHuddleKelly12 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sal made a point on WGR segment with Bulldog this afternoon, that the D looked awfully quick to be handsy and physical with the WR’s, and that likely when the Bills bring in refs later this month there will be a lot of holding calls if that keeps up. -
Couldn’t agree more! Also try the same thing for SB XXVII, 1st quarter. Some of the best SB performance the Bills ever showed! We had it all, high energy, blocked punts, touchdown, kicking game, a passing attack, and defensive stops! Based on that, it’s almost impossible for the game to have turned the way it did—seriously, watch just the 1st quarter on YouTube and tell me I’m wrong.

Throw in some roadway upgrades/expansion within several miles of OP, maybe a new flyover ramp or 2, to go along with some new pedestrian friendly covered walkways, and voila! Killed 2 birds with 1 stone—there’s some “shovel-ready infrastructure” upgrades cover while the bacon gets funneled into the stadium foundation pour?

Day 4 for Parrino & Talbot…sorry am posting this so late in the day. Quick Hits: -Kumerow is the complete package, sneaky fast off the line, can see why Aaron Rodgers hated to see him go. Potential knock is his age for a #6 WR at age 29, but they think is non-issue. Can’t sneak him onto the practice squad this year. -Fans: felt like a game day environment. Pretty serious wave—in midseason form! Players were blown away by how many fans showed up for a practice! Dane Jackson shocked they knew who he was lol. -Rousseau on track to put up a fight for a starting job opposite Hughes—into the 4th day still getting 1st team reps—good sign. -Efe Obada continuing his showcase off the outside and has good inside moves as well. Basham predominantly on the 2nd team, and was ok today, nothing jumped out. —Hart at tackle is what he is, more down than up, roster spot not secure by any means. -Harrison Phillips is looking huge, settling into 1tech role, was 2nd team today. There’s more, but those were the main ones.

Day 3 camp observations from Parrino & Talbot; I posted Day 2 yesterday and really like these guys, solid takes imho. Quick hits: -Efe a people mover, great power moves shown today, and what a back story on this guy; -Cody interview; has quickness, had an “unbelievable” play against Oliver, driving Ed into the turf; -Rousseau; can’t ignore that for a guy with so many question marks coming in, is performing so much better than could have been expected…again against Daryl Williams, a face plant; -takeaways from the RB’s, they’re ready to go, get the pads on, all flashes at least once, and Antonio Williams is legit; -Secondary: maturity of Levi Wallace, impressed even the Dane Jackson fanboy Parrino—has done a great job learning from Tre, and has learned how to be a better off coverage CB. He’s not a sports car, he’s the family van, solid, dependable…you can do a lot worse than Levi at this position; -Tre, good pass breakup against Sanders today. -Trubisky as trade bait given QB injuries across the league—but he came here for a reason and the Bills also need him desperately for insurance when making a SB run; -OL “guardian caps”—our boy Kelso involved in that company at one time! -TE a position the Bills still not happy with. New signing of Howard today (played with Trubisky at UNC), Parrino doesn’t expect much from him though. But, also we have the luxury of strong receivers so Bills offense doesn’t need elite production from the position… There’s more, worth a watch! -

-Micah Hyde smiling ear to ear over what the new guys (specifically Basham) are bringing up front, Boogie taking it to the house play of TC thus far; -Rousseau constantly in the backfield, good sign for the defensive pressure that was lacking often last year beyond Hughes, and will make life for our LBs and DBs so much easier; -Josh’s already infamous pass to Beasley, the video doesn’t do it justice, Josh had pressure in his face but still let the play develop and perfectly timed the throw which was of a superstar caliber between our all-pro safeties; -“McKenzie is the best backup in the NFL”—would be starting anywhere else already; best part of his game is there is basically no transition time lost between time he catches to the time he starts running—he’s so fluid he catches without breaking his strides/progressions, and that’s a big leg up against defenders; a glue guy loved in the locker room, a low key leader -discuss Siran Neal, “a roster lock” bc of all the different hats he wears for the team, also stood out today; Jordan Poyer claims Neal is the best athlete he’s seen in his career(!)—the McKenzie of the D, Swiss Army knife; -Trubisky came back to earth today, not bad, but when compared to JA, it was still noticeable the drop off; -Cody Ford has looked good, healthy, and has been playing consistently in his drills, good signs—but can’t tell us at which position exactly; Dane Jackson hype although a somewhat down day in one on one drills. There’s more in there but these were the main topics… -

It’s all fun and games until @Ridgewaycynic2013updates us with how many compensatory draft picks New England was just awarded for this nonsense. -

Apologies if this has already been referenced somewhere I missed upthread, but looks like Lamar will also miss a good chunk of training camp, at least 10 days… https://baltimore.cbslocal.com/2021/07/28/lamar-jackson-tests-covid-19-positive-ravens-training-camp/ -

Jim Kelly recovering from ankle replacement surgery
NoHuddleKelly12 replied to buffaloaggie's topic in The Stadium Wall
Godspeed in your recovery Jimbo—unreal what he’s had to physically go through even after his playing days, due in no small part to exactly those days I’m sure, even outside of the bouts with cancer. Best wishes and Bills nation is pulling for you! -
Kinda my point—Shula (winningest coach in NFL history at the time of his passing) had a 29-3 WL record against Buffalo through 1985. Once Marv came onboard, that turned to the tune of 14-6 for the Bills, and overall Marv has a 20-6 record against the Don. That’s too much to be a statistical outlier imho, and also, those same middling numbers given for Miami in terms of playoffs over that span—how many of those years was Miami snuffed out by Buffalo in the playoffs? https://billswire.usatoday.com/2020/05/04/buffalo-bills-history-miami-dolphins-don-shula-marv-levy/

I think Houston is happy to move on with their current QB room as Watson not playing will buy their FO/new HC some breathing room anyway, and if they tank this season they should be sitting even prettier come next draft to make a move for a new franchise guy, in the event that Davis Mills doesn't show out enough after he (inevitably) starts following Taylor's just as inevitable season-ending injury...no matter what the rumors are concerning the price point, they will adjust the ask to get what they can for him and move on from there, imho.
