All those guys you mentioned were creative and clever and thoughtful, so the vulgarity was just a part of the act. These guys say the F word and expect the laughs to rain down. Effing lazy of them. George Carlin used to say things like "Ever wonder why you park in the driveway but you drive on the parkway?" Now that's clever and funny. Eddie Murphy is a genius and he created characters that live on in our memories and still bring a smile. Robin Williams was not vulgar, nor was Rodney Dangerfield.

It used to be that comedy, in order to induce a laugh, had to be thoughtful and clever. Seinfeld was the last of this type. Nowadays you just need to mention "Giselle" and the F word. It got very old very fast. Our culture has deteriorated.

You're correct on the name issue, but religious Jews won't say Adonai unless they're actually praying. If they're referring to the contents of a prayer in conversation, for instance, they'll substitute "hashem" or sometimes I've heard "adoshem" Proper pronunciation is Adon-EYE with the accent on the third syllable. Not sure how he says it though. There are lots of strange first names in football.

Having been raised in the Jewish faith this name never fails to crack me up. "Adonai" is Hebrew for "God" and religious Jews are so careful of observing the commandment of not taking God's name in vain, they actually won't say this word unless engaged in formal prayer. In other cases they substitute the word Hashem which means "the name." I can't wait until he catches a Hail Mary pass.
