Media trying to get McDermott fired.

Yes, in a historically unreplical season where they backed in off another team collapsing. How impressive. -
Media trying to get McDermott fired.
eanyills replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What exactly has McBeane shown that gives you any confidence in the “long game?” I’m not saying they should be fired this year but the burner’s definitely been turned on. If they look like a tire fire the rest of this year and start off poorly next season, they could very well be gone sooner than later. -
Since McVay took over, The Rams have replaced 2 starting OL, top 4 WR, starting TE, and their top-3 CB’s among others. The Aaron Donald or Gurley situation could have also blown up if the Rams decided they weren’t worth the money (like Mack or Bell). It’s not like nothing has changed in LA. I don’t think McDermott identifies the WR talent at the very least and he’s definitely not drawing up the creative scheming you see the Rams run every week.

If in his hiring interview Dan Quinn says, “I can’t win with Matt Ryan. I need to bring in my own guy,” and ownership really wants Quinn, then yes, Atlanta probably gets a new QB. Also, Derek Carr is not Matt Ryan. Totally different pedigrees.
-
Why? With QB being the one position more than any other that directly contributes to a coach’s success (or eventual firing), no coach is taking on a guy they don’t think they can win with. Coaches with leverage at hiring never keep a QB if it’s not their guy/a guy they believe they can work with. It would almost certainly be a question during the hiring process so ownership should have known. Same here, if McBeane flames out, expect the new coaching staff to immediately move on from Allen. That’s just how it goes.

Stating the obvious - the NFL talent level vs. Bills
eanyills replied to PUNT750's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is one aspect of the original post that isn’t garbage racial stereotyping and that’s that Buffalo doesn’t have a large affluent population, especially a black one. In that regard, there is a void that a lot of other NFL cities have. There is a lack of high-end formal restaurants, clubs, etc. Those are things that young millionaires with high social profiles seek. When players like Jordan Matthews speak out, that’s what he’s referring to. I think that’s what this post refers to, too. I’ve had the opportunity to travel a lot and I’ve spent significant time in most NFL cities. Buffalo isn’t the only NFL city lacking these things but we’re definitely bottom-10 for nightlife/social life. That’s not a knock on Buffalo, I like it a lot more overall than quite a few NFL cities but it is something we’re missing. -
There are two flaws to this logic. 1. They got their guy at QB. There’s not a reason to tank anymore. Teams don’t purposefully tank after getting their franchise QB. 2. The clock’s clicking. With Allen missing time and the offense so devoid of weapons, there’s less to go on evaluating Allen but if this team/Allen doesn’t look improved next year, you can bet McBeane will be let go. Bad regimes simply don’t stick around like they used to. You need results. They don’t have the luxury of letting Allen develop AND being a joke of a team. As an aside, McD doesn’t sound like a guy on a throwaway year. In his press conferences and radio spots, he sounds legitimately frustrated, like a guy who knows he needs to get this turned around immediately.

It’s absolutely applicable. The Rams franchise tagged Donald repeatedly because they couldn’t fit him into the salary structure of the team. Tavon Austin and Trumaine Johnson were making 30mil combined at the time. Next year, they’re going to have to make serious room for the new contracts (see ya Suh, Joyner, etc.) That’s life in the modern NFL. It’s why the Raiders are rumored to be moving on from Cooper and potentially Carr. Mack wasn’t a Gruden guy otherwise they would have kept him. Money is never an issue in the NFL. It’s whether a guy fits into the coaches vision for the team and obviously Mack didn’t.
-
But that’s not the entire story. Tons of coaches, especially the old guard of coaches, want “their guys.” When Aaron Donald and the Rams were having contract quarrels, McVay could have pulled a Gruden and had Donald dealt like the Raiders did Mack. Goff looked like an unmitigated tire fire. It would have been easy for any new coach with leverage to say they wanted to move on from what looked like a sure bust in the making. The Rams had a ton of talent but they’ve also had a bit of turnover in McVay’s tenure so far, especially on the defensive side. The place they’ve really succeeded I think is in offensive player identification and planning. McVay clearly knows what he wants to do and what kind of players he needs to do it. Replace Kenny Britt with Robert Woods. Immediately get rid of Tavon Austin, get Cooper Kupp. Try Sammy, it doesn’t work, try Brandin Cooks. So many coaches seem to haphazardly approach building their roster. McVay seems like he knows exactly what he wants and needs on the offensive side.

I’d seriously want the entire coaching staff fired if they did that. I might want that anyway though after I hear McD’s press conference later. Man, those are brutal. -

The answer is no although I think Botterill has been OK. His hire of Housley looks like a dud, though. This is the main organizational failing of both the Sabres and Bills IMO. -

Gronk didn’t play, Michel’s out for the year, Gordon took a headshot but returned. Patriots are going to struggle to move the ball today unless Josh Gordon goes off. -

Beane isn’t calling the shots. This is McD’s team, through and through. And I don’t have complete confidence in what I’ve seen and heard of McD... -

That crap is just buzzwords to explain away the rebuilding years. “Why is the team so bad?” ...”Yeah, we have to believe in the process and we’re building a culture here...” Don’t buy into it. It’s superficial. -

This team has a lot more problems beyond QB. Don’t worry, we’ll still be really bad with Derek Anderson. -
The Yankees play in New York City. That’s a little different than playing in Buffalo. That’s the premier media and nightlife capital of this country. If you want to build a brand/persona/become a social icon, that’s where to be.

No, your comparison is not a good one. The counterpoint, which was correct, was that Goff showed more ability and potential at all the same respective points than Allen ever has. There is no evidence to this point that Allen is capable of making that jump.

McDermott hangs up on Schopp and Bulldog
eanyills replied to BillsFanForever19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Buffalo sports media is pretty tame. If WGR gets to McD, then he better stay away from any hotbed media markets. They would eat him alive. The Bills have been a tire fire for a long time. Although showing improvement and ending the drought, there’s a lot of red flags about McD and Allen. The things WGR is talking about and asking McD is exactly what they should be. Why is Allen playing? Why is Peterman on the team? Why is the offensive roster devoid of talent? How can you preach culture and have KB be a direct contradiction of it? And many of McD’s decisions are highly suspect. It’s not 1993. All the data casual observers could ever need to make logical criticisms is out there. The data isn’t kind to McD. You can love the Bills. You can like McD. You can even like the direction the team is going in but there’s plenty to criticize and WGR isn’t in the wrong here. -
OFFICIAL TNF THREAD Vikings At Rams

A lot of “no defense” comments. Remember that both Rams starting CB’s, Talib and Peters didn’t play. That kind of matters. There’s always been offensive and defensive teams in the league. I’m not sure why last night’s game is a big deal. -

Gordon necessitates the opposing defense pulling a safety out of the box. He alone relieves some pressure on Gronk and opens up the running game. Edelman should create more space, too. You can say what you want about him but just the prescense of Gordon on the field opens up things for Gronk. -
Did Vontae Davis retire at halftime? Yes, yes he did!

Professional anything. Think of the real world equivalent: Just up and quit in the middle of a workday, in the middle of a meeting with clients, and go home. That employer is never going to be giving you a positive reference in the future. You wait until the meeting’s (game) is over at the earliest. -
McD took over defensive play calling in 2nd half

So Frazier is essentially a lame duck for the rest of the season? This team is a train wreck right now but at least Allen looks much better than I expected.
