  1. I was watching an NFL show last night, which I don't usually watch (not sure on name but was 3 white guys and a black woman going thru and talking about each team) This guy at the end brought up Allen's stats and comp. % thus far and just criticized the fact its low. Nothing else about Allen or the team. I agree overall that Allen comp. % does need to be higher, but he's not likely to be a 65% comp. pct. passer. The stat that is more important is team 3rd down comp. %. As far as keeping him in the pocket, I think he can succeed fine in that scenario. The biggest factor, like all quarterbacks is time. Actually I like the fact that they will try to contain him which will help get him to make a quicker play. His biggest reason to roll out is to extend plays and find an open receiver. I would like to see Allen connect with the Bills receivers on those quick passes more. To succeed I think he needs to do both, play in the pocket and do roll outs. As well as run if there's an open field in front of you. This game will be more good experience. And you can bet the Pats want to win this game so their not going to hold back.
  2. Swap Allen and Rosen and the Bills are 3-11 while Cards are 5-9.
  3. Here's a good stat - Last 4 games the Bills have averaged only about two - 3 and outs per game where they had to punt. Bills aren't punting from inside their own 25 yard line like they were so much earlier in the year.
  4. oh well Stafford was almost 76% and no interceptions! Lions must have just had their way with the Bills here and Allen only 50% must have had a terrible day! M. Stafford PASSING CP/ATT YDS TD INT 22/29 208 1 0 J. Allen PASSING CP/ATT YDS TD INT 13/26 204 1 0 1 Rush TD But lets look here, I show about 11 of his passes were for 5 yards or less, of which at least 3 of them were on 3rd and long that they didn't get the first down. For this game, Stafford was either getting big pass plays from Golladay or throwing little dink passes. If your offense is geared to simply hit the 5 yard pass you can do that but it requires great execution on about every play and it doesn't lend itself well to missed plays or penalties. If the Bills tried to simply play this offense they would have lost this game but Allen would have had better stats!
  5. Its not just receivers being able to catch the ball, its also receivers that can beat their defender and make great catches. How many great catches do Bills receivers make a game? Maybe have one all game if their lucky. If you have a bunch of pedestrian receivers your going to mostly have a bunch of pedestrian results. Great receivers get open and find the seams in zones. And then they are able to beat their defenders more so than not. Go look at top receivers stats and the first Bills player is Zay Jones at #74. I don't think any Bills receiver would be a starter on any another team that had their top receivers healthy. Bills need a #1 receiver with size and speed that is a real threat. Benjamin obviously was not it.
  6. Allen got hurt not just because he was running, but by trying to take on a linebacker straight on instead of sliding down. Here's something some of you probably don't know - Josh Allen did not have a lot of rushing yards last year in college. He had 2 games of about 60 yards rushing and a few games of around 30-40 yards rushing. But he also had 4 games where he had 0 to negative yards rushing the ball. He's running way more these last 3 games than he has ever before.
  7. pretty amazing you can pick out which Quarterbacks will win SB's! LOL If Allen played like that 10-20 with 72 yards, including that terrible interception, he would be getting skewered on here. Also, did you see that great catch by Vikings Diggs? It was not a prefect pass by any means but the receiver beat his defender who was draped all over him. The Receivers have to make great plays too!
  8. Yep, I agree that to be a great QB, you have to make the routine plays, routinely. Make those 5-6 yard passes routinely. But in order to do those things you have to have an offense that executes those plays well. The RB's have to do more than get 2 yards, the penalties that turn the 3rd and 4 to 3rd in 9 have to stop, the O line has to protect to prevent someone blowing up a play, and the receivers have to run the correct route and then catch the ball. Bills as a team don't execute these things routinely on every play. I think Josh has to just play within himself more, take the snap and make the best play available and don't try to extend every play. Would like to see the offense work more on quick plays and getting first downs while still taking the occasional shot downfield.
  9. Defense did limit the Jets to some field goals in first half. Jets started 4 drives inside Bills territory (not incl. end of game) and they scored 2 FG's and 1 TD. Jets offense really only made a few big plays all game. Special teams gave Jets great field position and then the 2 missed Buffalo field goals did them in. If that pass play to Allen had worked and the special teams played just a little bit better Bills would have won this game. But every week there seems to be huge breakdowns in Bills overall play. Turnovers to missed field goals and poor special teams to dropped passes to giving up the big plays.
  10. It was great to see Allen sliding yesterday instead of knocking heads on his runs. If the defense wants to leave parts of the field wide open, then he should run for it if he can get a first down etc. And some of the runs were designed plays as well.
  11. The McCoy/Ivory thing is not working. At least one of those guys has to go.
  12. Someone can be "told" lots of things, but to actually experience those things and determine what you did wrong is much more beneficial than simply being told about them.
  13. The worse QB injuries I've seen have mostly been when they were in the pocket, sometimes moving around a little bit but usually within the pocket. If Allen runs, he just needs to be smart about it and run out of bounds or slide or just go down. He shouldn't have run the ball twice on 2nd and 3rd and goal the prev. week. But a play action where he sees an opening, then go for it.
  14. Often team that have a high amount of passing yards do so because their losing by a lot and have to simply pass the ball and defenses are playing back. Passing yards has always been a deceptive statistic. The primary statistic is really number of wins. Can your quarterback win the game. Either by playing well all game and making good decisions, not turning the ball over and making necessary plays. And sometimes by being able to come back in games as well. The "slow eyes" thing is stupid. Quarterbacks are not able to see every player on every play nor make a great pass every play. I see great QB's make terrible throws every week. Aaron Rodgers made some real bad throws at the end of his last 2 games I saw including 1 swing pass he threw at the receivers feet. I've never seen a game where a quarterback has not made some mistakes, interceptions, fumbles, missing a receiver, etc. To call Allen's mistakes "glaring weaknesses" in his rookie year is ridiculous. As far as TD passes - the 14 yard TD run was the play call. They didn't have him pass it. The 2 runs on at the goal line were also play calls. Those should have been pass plays with an option to run. The thing I think Allen is weak on sometimes is the 10 yard pass, where he tries to let off on the ball. My advice is to not let off, drill the ball in there and receivers need to catch it. The only time he should worry about touch on his throws are screens and those quick swing passes. And near the goal line they need to have some more pass plays. The defense are going to be anticipating run so a receiver should have room to get open. But thats on the coaches too.
  15. The biggest thing to me was Allen made the correct decision on just about every play. One of the hardest things for QB's is making the correct decision on each and every play vs making a big mistake that gets you sacked or intercepted. And yeah, if the Bills had played better overall he would have had 250 yards passing along with 100 yards rushing. And I still maintain that regardless of how well or how poorly they play, you can never adequately judge a quarterback their rookie year. There's so many great QB's who hardly played at all their rookie year and others like Goff who didn't really look good their first year. Goff 7 games 2016 and Allen 6.5 games Goff (only 16 yards rushing with 1 TD) GP CMP ATT CMP% YDS AVG TD LNG INT FUM QBR RAT 7 112 205 54.6 1,089 5.31 5 66 7 5 18.9 63.6 Allen (254 yards rushing and 4 TD's) 7 83 158 52.5 992 6.28 3 75 5 1 37.9 65.2
  16. If the fish run the ball for over 200 yards while the Bills running backs manage only 60 again, it could be a long day for the Bills. Can't rely on Tannehill to cough up the ball like Bortles did. And shouldn't expect Allen to provide all the Bills offense.
  17. Ben Roethlisberger had 462 YDS, 1 TD, 2 INTS, but lost because he threw a interception in the endzone right at the end of the game. All the stats in the world don't win games but big mistakes can definitely lose games. I went and looked that John Elway first year he had a 47.5% completion pct. and many of his years only avg. about 56%. Cam Newton completion % this year so far is almost 70% and the Panthers are 6-5. I'm really not sure why so many people are obsessed with completion percentage. So THIS was the week that Josh Allen should have been the starting Bills QB, not week 2. And rookie QB's can learn how to prepare for games sitting on the bench for awhile. As far as Allen running the ball, if he sees a wide open field in front of him he should definitely take off. But they should not run him twice like that at the goal line either. Your NFL QB should not be your feature running back in games! 3rd and long in the NFL is hard for all teams and its tough when your top 2 running backs only get 60 yards in the game. Its also tough for a QB to get much rhythm passing in games when there's so many penalties and botched plays. Bills offense is too herky jerky this year, part of that is the QB play but a lot of it is just the overall team play. The Bills offense is definitely not a well oiled machine.
  18. Yes, but Allen also had 3200 passing yards and 500 rushing yards his Soph. season. But no, he's not likely to be the next Brees.
  19. So Peterman with 31 completions but only 189 yards = 6 yards a completion. That could work better but 1 penalty or sack and it kills the drive. Defenses only have to cover about 10 yards of space and maybe use 1 safety somewhat deep. Bills receivers are too slow and don't get open downfield, and Peterman has trouble throwing outs on the sidelines. Until this offense can stretch the field somewhat, their going to continue to struggle. You have to play mistake free football to continue long drives and score all game long.
  20. Learning how to prepare for games, dissecting defenses and preparing your game plan. And I think Anderson should help in that regard. As I and others on here have mentioned, takes time to learn how to be an nfl qb. Mahomes sat most of last year. Tom Brady sat his entire first year. I think they both learned a few things sitting.
  21. Maybe if they move the team to St.Louis, and then move them back in 10 or 20 years they'll be a lot better?
  22. too bad the Bills didn't land Demaryius Thomas but I doubt he would have shown up anyway. "You have who for your quarterback right now"?
  23. The Bills offense has proven itself to be among the NFL's worst. I'm not sure how some on here could think a raw rookie quarterback could step right in and save it all. I'm not happy about Josh Allen's injury but I am happy he's been able to sit a few games and watch now. I hope he comes back after the bye and things get better but can't expect miracles with this offense.
