  1. a game like this showcased how receivers are literally half the passing game. Thats the thing, the Bills offense often requires Allen to be perfect on every play. Overall Allen had a good enough game. He missed on a long pass he should have hit and he had a fumble, that had it not happened then the Bills would have had to settle for a FG there anyway instead of getting the TD. Allen also had to be the one to score the 2 rushing TD's because it was apparent Gore wasn't going get it in. If you go down the list of the reasons the Bills lost, Allen is not towards the top of that list.
  2. There were several passes that were right on the money and most the time they were still tackled right after the catch. There were some plays too the receivers, Roberts on a couple, had almost no separation from their defender. Allen missed a few throws too. The offense in general was very average and not converting the two 4th down plays had an impact as well.
  3. You can blame Allen but he's being forced into making something happen every play. There were not playmakers yesterday making anything happen not to mention some poor dropped passes. Its either Josh has to make a great throw or a great run or its nothing. Josh had some misses, he threw a few balls away due to pressure. He missed a big pass play he should have hit, no excuse on that one. But Josh Allen is also not Aaron Rodgers and he's not going to make a perfect play every snap.
  4. Darnold and Mayfield both have had some success but both their teams have been getting clobbered out there. Bills have definitely kept the reins in on Allen primarily because imo, they're actively working towards getting into the playoffs and they want to bring Allen along with a more controlled passing game. It makes sense to slowly open up the passing game than it is to be reckless on offense and have your QB throw multiple picks each game. Bills have the luxury of not having to force Allen to throw 40+ times a game.
  5. He's static and has hit a wall. He'll never be better than 52% completion rate, 56% completion rate, 61% completion rate.
  6. The more I think about this game the more I think its going to be a shootout. Browns are going to move the ball and score some points and Bills are going to have to do the same.
  7. Do you think there was any way possible Allen could have had 300 yards against the Redskins? They would have had to significantly alter their gameplan to have done that. So apparently Allen is static, has not improved and will be no match for tougher NFL defenses. The way he plays now is how he will always play. Sounds a little bit what some were saying last year except then he was to reckless, to many ints, not under control, not able to hit the short pass, poor accuracy and low comp.%. I think Bills are probably wise for reining Josh in somewhat and if you go look at Baker and Darnold and others - its not good practice to try to force a 2nd year or inexperienced QB to try and carry the team. Its not practical for an entire season. I'm hoping the Bills will open up their offense more when they can. This would be a good week to do it imo.
  8. The reason Brandon Allen had success was primarily his receivers who beat their guys. Go look at his 2 TD's, they were both mostly on the receiver. Broncos have some great playmakers.
  9. I think this will be a very tough game. Bills are walking into a wounded badger den. You can bet Cleveland will be desperate to win. Best thing to do is get up on Browns early and keep pouring it on and let them turn on each other.
  10. I'd give Allen a B+. Only real mistake imo was the red zone sack. He had nowhere to go on that and it was to late by time he realized it. The slant pass to Brown took to long to develop and he had to rush it even more than usual and it was already a rushed play, however it was irrelevant as they ended up scoring anyway due to Allen getting the TD. Overall Allen did what the gameplan called for him to do. Bills receivers don't make many highlight reel plays out there. Singletary is really the only Bills playmaker. I watch NFL games every week where receivers make outrageous plays. KC makes them weekly, today the Browns OBJ, a couple by the Broncos too, the TD catch by Sutton was robbery. With the Bills offense, and these receivers - this is about all that it can produce. One claim I'll make though is that Josh Allen isn't the one holding this offense back.
  11. Another week where the Bills offense goes into a complete funk and then was able to correct it at the end. Singletary had a good day, but Josh Allen is the only thing making this lousy offense go. Swap out Haskins and Allen in this game and the Redskins win it. Haskins didn't play that bad but a couple big avoidable sacks and no real presence on the field imo.
  12. Ridiculous play calling. Face it Gore cannot get a 3rd and 1. Put in DiMarco or someone else!
  13. seems like every game the Bills score some points and then revert back to their worn out offensive game plan of punting, playing field position and hoping the defense stops them. Bills offense seem to have about a dozen plays they keep recycling.
  14. Bills just haven't clicked on offense this year at all imo. The offense has had some great quarters of football but not any great games. This team makes to many mistakes in each and every game from penalties and guys out of position to O-line issues and receivers dropping passes. And it seems Allen is only working the short passing game 95% of time. Also on 3rd and 1 or 2, to many times not getting a first down. I don't see many great plays offensively by this team, seems like about 2 each game. I watch some NFL games that have 2-3 great plays on 1 drive. I would like to see Foster in there, more passes to Singletary out of backfield, more slants to Beasley and more 20-30 stikes to Brown. No excuse for a team to go 3 and out on first possession of an NFL game and Bills have done that several times. THats just poor game planning and execution if you can't move the ball to start a game. Even several bad teams start out games well.
  15. Bills had a bad ending to the game, and the offense, especially Allen couldn't seem to execute a play. I wouldn't put to much concern on 4th qtr of this game, the best the Bills could have done imo was score a 4th qtr TD to make it 31-20. For the rest of game, Bills wasted to many other opportunities as well. There were way to many broken plays where players simply weren't running the correct play. No excuse for that in week 8. Between broken plays, penalties and mistakes the Bills waste to many possessions in every game. As far as Allens fumbles, as mentioned the one getting knocked out as he's throwing is only partly his fault. But I think his biggest problem is the way he carries the ball when he runs, his elbow sticks out on the side to far. He can be taught to keep his elbow down which will give him better ball security. They should be working with him on that.
  16. Bills rely on the defense to much, would rather punt than take a risk and then put the pressure back on the defense to get a stop. That will work against the poorer teams but their going to have to open it up more on offense. Can't expect to win every game 17-13
  17. Broncos had 2 good chances to get a FG late in 4th and just failed. Their offense is abysmal.
  18. Bills offense is definitely not hitting on all cylinders and hasn't this entire year. I do put most the blame on Daboll. And obviously Allen is a big part of that as well. I'm hoping the Bills are simply limiting Allen on purpose right now so he can become more a more controlled quarterback and then will gradually open it up. But they just don't have time to wait for that. If Bills could come out and get the lead in some games then you would think they might be more inclined to let Josh do more riskier plays. But instead they start trying to run the clock out in the 3rd qtr. They can't continue to sit back and hope the other team makes a mistake. Bills have to start taking it to the other teams offensively all game long and that includes letting Allen push the ball upfield. Let Allen run if he needs to but stop the designed QB run plays on 3rd and 2.
  19. I think Allen can hit the 20-30 yard passes as well as anyone. He hasn't done well with the receiver running down the field in stride but hasn't had many of those plays either. However he can throw a 30 yard laser to a guy anywhere on the field. But the Bills aren't calling those plays very often and instead are simply going for the short pass. Even on plays the receiver going downfield is mostly to try and clear it underneath. But overall I agree with the premise the Bills offense is fairly predictable and their intentionally not trying to stretch the field. Bills and Allen are going to have to take more risks on offense and with that is going to include some mistakes as well. I sort of think the Bills coaching staff is intentionally holding Allen back to be more controlled, and then they'll greadually release him to make more plays downfield but in a more controlled manner than last year.
  20. I would say Allen had a bad fumble and then had a terrible finish to the game but no add'l turnovers. But that is also a bit uncharacteristic of him as he usually plays very well in the 4th. This game was not an indicator, it was an aberration imo. The Bills passing offense isn't good enough to rely on just throwing the ball. The Niners, Saints, Seahawks, and most other teams that won yesterday did so with a decent rushing attack as well. Once the safeties start playing back because they don't have to worry about the run, and the linebackers aren't needing to blitz, your throwing out to 3 guys against 6-7 defenders. So the other thing I want to note is there seemed to be several offensive plays where players were not running the correct route or executing the play. Bills offense is not in mid-season form.
  21. oh, so Bills didn't score a TD on their first possession in 4th qtr whereas Eagles had a 83 yard 8 and half min drive and scored a TD on their first possession in 4th. Thus the D grade. Had the Bills come back and got a TD and a FG and lost 31-23, it would have somehow been much better. I see now.
  22. I would give Allen a C+. 2 TD's and no ints. One bad fumble on a play that shouldn't be called in that situation, at least make it a play action or something. Allen had a bad 4th qtr but by then Eagles had Bills pretty much penned in. At most Bills might have got 1 TD and lost 31-20. I suppose that would have made everyone happy huh? One other thing I'll mention is anyone here who thinks Allen should not have any turnovers period, you must not watch much football then. Thats not even an unreal expectation, its fantasy.
  23. Allen did have a poor 4th qtr on a team that played poorly all day. He had played his best in the 4th qtr before this game. But he has been more mindful of not making desperate throws that lead to interceptions. Matt Schaub had 460 yards and 75% completion rate and lost and Falcons only scored 2 touchdowns whereas Russell Wilson had 182 yards and 2 TD's in their win. You would probably be ecstatic if you were a Falcons fan right now.
  24. I just don't feel like that can happen with the current offensive system thats in place. Allen could come out in a drive and throw 6-7 completed passes, move the ball and then they'll run 2 rushing plays in a row for total of 3 yards, get a false start penalty and not convert a 3rd and long. Poor play calling, dropped passes and penalties and then Allen has to continually deal with 3rd and long situations all game long. Odds are against any QB in that situation.
