Around the NFL This Sunday 11/28 (Bills mini-bye)
JGMcD2 replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
I thought McVay was a great in-game coach? I also thought the Rams had the blueprint to winning it all? Trade all your picks away. Looking great since the trade deadline. -
Who are these better depth players that could’ve been acquired that you’re referring to? Johnson is out there because he’s one of our best players - that’s not a negative towards Klein. Klein is our 3rd LB. He’s depth… sorry he’s being used as depth instead of playing over Taron Johnson? Taron is fantastic in run support and gives you flexibility to defend the pass.
-
The coaching staff seems to be pretty high on Jaquan Johnson at S… we’ve just never really seen him play because of Poyer and Hyde. AJ Klein is definitely a good 3rd LB. I don’t know what you’re looking for depth wise. Name another team in the NFL that has the starting caliber safeties and linebackers we have? Of course there is going to be a drop off from Hyde and Poyer who are both arguably playing at an All-Pro level. Of course there is a drop off from White who is an All-Pro. Of course our other LB can’t cover like Milano and Edmunds. It’s because those guys listed are some of the best in the league at what they do…

I wasn’t asserting that the Saints offense was a juggernaut? That’s was just unnecessary fluff lol You’re missing the point. The concern was that we would be in a difficult position in a game if one of CB went down because having 4 CBs active is playing with fire. You’re asking for a 4th CB (I’m assuming boundary CB because Taron is strictly nickel) who isn’t a total liability… the reality is that guy doesn’t play unless someone gets hurt. It’s whether you believe keeping that guy on the active roster is worth it as compared to another position. That same caliber 4th boundary CB that we’d be keeping on the active roster is going to come off a practice squad or FA. You seem to be conflating the words depth and talent… it seems like you’re more worried about upgrading Dane Jackson or Levi Wallace than you are about adding another solid CB?
-
Well what’s the mistake? The common gripe is that 4 CBs on game day is super light and could hurt us if someone goes down in a game. It happened last night and they held up. Their 4 CBs have done just fine all year. Wallace is a suitable #2… how many teams have two Tre Whites? There’s always going to be a drop off between your star and the next guy. The CB depth thing has some validity in the event of injuries on game days… otherwise it’s kind of a weird argument.

I mean it’s not misleading at all… there’s a reason for having statistical minimums to qualify as a league leader. You did a great job of pointing out exactly why it’s NOT misleading.

Bro… if you’re going to tell me that I’m wrong at least know what you’re talking about. Beasley’s contract EXPIRES after 2022. John Brown an Cole Beasley both signed after 2018. Brown signed for 3 years and Beasley was 4 years. I don’t just come on here spouting off about ***** that I don’t know about. Believe me.
-
I didn’t say comprable replacement… I just said you have to use some of that money to sign a replacement for him. Say you spend $2M on a replacement… you’re really only saving $4M from cutting Beasley and also losing production from that position. At that point you need to decide if the $4M being spent elsewhere is such a significant upgrade that it offsets the drop off at Beasley’s position. Even if you don’t sign a replacement and you spend the $6M elsewhere… do the replacement(s) offset the downgrade of moving on from Beasley.

You made 1 comment about Tre White prior to the draft, you mentioned 2011 5th round pick Johnny White more than you mentioned Tre’Davious White. The 1 comment you made was nothing close to a comment with conviction about Tre White being the top corner in the draft. You said he would be a RD2 or RD3 pick… does that mean you didn’t have any CB rated as RD1 picks in 2017? Then you didn’t discuss the player for about 5 months… until all of a sudden with only one prior instance of discussing Tre’Davious White on the message board, you say he’s your favorite corner. For you to make the comment upthread that you were the only person to have Tre White rated as the #1 CB on this message board would have required you to have definitively said something of the sort leading up to the draft. You’re completely misrepresenting your support for Tre’Davious White. You mentioned him 1 time and are pretending like you were screaming it from the rooftops leading up to the draft.
-
Look, I’m not saying you’re wrong… just don’t misrepresent what you actually said. That’s the whole point. You’re behaving like it was some well known fact that you were championing Tre White… it wasn’t… you mentioned him 1 time prior to the Bills selecting him.

This would be great if I could find anything between January 1, 2016 and April, 27 2017 that even gave me a whiff of conviction as it pertained to Tre'Davious White. You said Tre'Davious White's name EXACTLY 1 time.. you actually mentioned the name Corey White just as much as you did Tre'Davious White prior to the draft. Ironically, you said the name Johnny White more between January 1, 2017 and April, 27 2017 than you did Tre'Davious White... This is you exact quote on Tre'Davious White from December 26, 2016: I haven't really done much individual analysis but at a glance I thought a guy like Tre'Davious White might end up being a terrific corner and being a very good tackler he might translate to S one day and that long term package might be a second or third round investment versus the steep price for his teammate Adams. His talent may actually be downgraded because he's been asked to play the more valued position. And that's always part of the equation when evaluating safeties. Byrd lasted until round 2 in part because HE was a CB in college You didn't comment again on Tre'Davious White until April, 28 2017 AFTER the selection I didn't get into the mocks and player rankings this year because I didn't do the work watching every player that others did so it's unfair to stack them on just the games I watched every week. But 3D White was my favorite cornerback in college football this year. This is where you say Tre'Davious White was your favorite cornerback in college... after the draft... when your last statement was made on December, 26 2016 and you said he might move to safety and was a RD2 or RD3 pick... no mention of him being your favorite player. These were literally the only two comments you made about Tre'Davious White for 1.5 years and now you're attempting to re-write your take. What I've outline above looks nothing like your quote below... you actually never said he was the top CB in the draft either.. you said he was your favorite cornerback in college football.. doesn't mean you believed he was the best... And I was probably the only person on TSW who had the relatively unheralded White as the top CB in the 2017 draft class (which notably had the MUCH heralded Marshon Lattimore). You didn't feel comfortable having much conviction until after the pick was made...

You make claims very often about how right you are… reference evidence… but never show it. If the evidence exists… why not show it? It just seems odd. You’re a smart guy… why not just back up your statements with evidence you say exists? I haven't really done much individual analysis but at a glance I thought a guy like Tre'Davious White might end up being a terrific corner and being a very good tackler he might translate to S one day and that long term package might be a second or third round investment versus the steep price for his teammate Adams. His talent may actually be downgraded because he's been asked to play the more valued position. And that's always part of the equation when evaluating safeties. Byrd lasted until round 2 in part because HE was a CB in college. This was the only reference I could find you making about Tre White between January 1, 2016 and April 27, 2017. You said he was worth a 2nd or 3rd rounder and that he may be a terrific corner but could also move to safety? Hardly the rock-solid endorsement of his abilities that you’re describing in your posts above. If other instances exists why not show me, rather than make me dig it up?
-
Can you cite the actual evidence of you saying prior to the 2017 NFL Draft that Tre White was the top CB in the draft class?
-
This! I don’t think people get this… release Beasley to save ~$6M and then have to find his replacement for less than $6M to make it worthwhile.

Allen Diggs Knox Poyer Milano White Bass

This is scary as hell… for the rest of the NFL. This is Josh Allen with his offensive line playing below average. If our offensive line regularly plays at a slightly above average clip… woof.
-
There’s no reason to give him 10-20 touches a game. The 8-15 he’s getting right is just fine. He doesn’t make guys miss here and there… he makes a guy miss on like every touch. He’s averaging 5 yards a carry… that’s tied for 7th among RB. He needs to clean up his ball security… otherwise he’s just fine. There’s no reason to force feed him the ball when we have Josh Allen. 20ish touches/game between Breida, Moss and Singletary is appropriate. We just need the threat the run to have success on offense. EDIT: Singletary and Moss forced missed tackles on 21% and 20% of their touches last year. It puts them both in the top 20 in the NFL. For reference Derrick Henry and Zeke Elliot had 20% and 19%.

Do you think a 4-3 formation could be a good one ?
JGMcD2 replied to Italian Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don’t think we’re taking Taron Johnson off the field. Maybe a little more against run heavy teams… but we’ll play predominantly nickel. -
Poor roster decisions still an issue with this regime
JGMcD2 replied to FilthyBeast's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don’t necessarily disagree or agree with anything here… I’d just like to point out that it’s kind of telling we’re questioning game day in-actives and our punter? How many teams in the league have the luxury of wondering which depth defensive end should be active or how much their #4 WR should be playing? Or how many more snaps their 3rd string linebacker should get alongside their starters? -
When things were going really bad with our run game, part of the reason we even gained yards at all was because Devin would make a guy miss in the backfield… he jukes a guy out on like every run. What games are you watching? I don’t think he’s an elite back by any means, but he’s not as horrible as everyone makes him sound.

It was reviewed. All turnovers are reviewed… by moving forward with the play the call either stood or was confirmed.

If Josh keeps playing well and accounting 80% of our offense I think he ends up winning MVP. Voters were skeptical last year that it was a fluke (and Rodgers balled out) if he finished with another high end season for the 2nd year in a row they’re going to lean a little more his way. Especially with how congested things are.
