Why do we never throw the ball down the field?
Bing Bong replied to Brianmoorman4jesus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And 3 PI.. Not sure the DBs are gonna have to foul Foster or Streater to create and incomplete pass. Those happen with Rodgers to old Jordy burning down the field with a guaranteed TD unless you PI -

Bing Bong replied to Brianmoorman4jesus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nailed it. JA does throw deep. It doesn't work. He either misses, foster drops, and regardless we don't have enough deep threats to help the cause anyway. Surprised you didn't get the 10 thumbs up rep points you deserve. I hate it when rep points go wasted. All about the rep to post ratio (for those of us joined right after it's introduction cause I'm crushing the old posters there. Sorry bout it.) WR's can't even draw a PI cause corners are probably coached not to worry about it. Statistically Foster drops the ball 20% of the time, I'd be telling my D Backs to never give the Bills a PI because it'd be a miracle it works anyway. -

All valid. I simply find the margin of bust/boom potential in the first round very slim personally. Only time I'd love a #1 overall is if Peyton Manning is on the board or we flip it for a king's ransom like the Rams did to the skins RGIII. That's awesome and at least that still buys into my strategy that round 1 margin is slim. Just my personal opinion. Drafting well is the end all be all, and most teams draft poorly at the top and bottom. We've been poor at drafting. Could have Rodgers or Big Been at 7-9 but we hauled JP. ONE great draft with a lot of picks that hit on an all-pro, maybe 2 if you're insanely lucky like that Seahawks draft. And some very good starters (I"m all for getting cheap interior O Line late first round).. just one or 2 slam dunk drafts turns your team around overnight. And you just gotta fill it with vets (I prefer short term prove it deals) to avoid what we look like rn. So either way works. A particularly bad year certainly improves the odds either via trade down or having a stud fall to you. But PERSONALLY I think we just have to nail our picks no matter where we land (small margins) and the only difference there is I have more fun as a fan every season. Either way is a disaster if we're drafting Maybins all the time. So our theories are simply tied to if our scouts have talents for getting bargain guys late, or really nailing the high picks. Some teams flourish either way depending on their talent come draft day. -

I get it, in ordinary circumstances these OPs annoy me. But WTH else are we gonna talk about nowadays. It's just something to do haha. I'm just interested in the debate: is he terrible, bad to mediocre, or our franchise savour we let slip. He's just bad. And i'd like to defend he ain't terrible. There's too many Drew Stantons in this league to lump him in that echelon (and Peterman is in a 1 man class of his own. HS QB tier.) Just why I engage in these threads because many bore me (and I don't click on it since it will die very soon.. this thread will be dead next morning.. I hope.) -

He's not terrible, you're watching terrible. I'd make that trade for a 3rd a million times over, but we don't need to act like we just broke up with our 3 we never were really into and rebounded with a 1 and act like our old girlfriend was the ugliest smelliest ever just to justify our rebound 1. But we got this cute 8 we've been flirting with and if we keep at it and put the effort in we might find the one ?. And we'll stop bashing the 3 because it doesn't matter anymore. Tyrod's going to last in this league and "not even starting for the Browns (who drafted a no 1 overall QB!)" is hardly any indictment. he'll be a solid backup, and is currently a highly overpaid backup. Guarantee you he never gets trade value for a 3rd or gets that same contract but him and Fitz are at least the only QBs we can say had longevity in the league in what 10-15 years? Don't hate your ugly 3 gf because you broke up with her. Be happy for her finding another 3 in her league.. -2nd or 3rd on some teams depth chart the analogy sort of can't go any further lol. -

Nah SBF is the best, disagree on a lot but he's a smart respectful poster nevertheless. Just saying I make the Bear and Jeans analogies all the time and get taken literally like I'm insane (which of course would be the appropriate reaction if you don't understand nuance.. or didn't pay attention in Hish School English) Take advantage of your free public education folks. It might suck at the time but nobody said I really wish I partied more in HS and studied less. You say that in college, when you're not forced to be in English class if you don't want to. So learn while you can boys. Cause that Bears and Jeans analogy was fantastic. -

Be careful man. ShadyBillsFan is a smart dude but you're going down a slippery slope when you try analogies to the people who think you're literally talking about bears and jeans. Exhibit A: Browns bottom out all the time. Don't be the Browns. -

I don't get it. We've just been drafting poorly for 2 decades. Better to go 7-9 and get Tre White than bottom out and grab Solomon Thomas. If you draft well the difference is one record let's you enjoy more meaningful games over the season than the other.. and is 2-3 wins from making playoffs should you have that special offseason, coach, FA signing, rookie whatever it takes to spark your team to the next tier. Because that spark to the next tier when bottoming out just gets you back to 7-9. -
Possible power play by Beane?
Bing Bong replied to Estelle Getty's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I guess you can call it a power move to fire your coach at rock bottom dog**** of a roster when he has virtually no chance and then blame it all on him when you've rebuilt, purposely made your coach look awful, fired him, and hire a new dude. I call it a dick move. Geez Beane would be the last dude I'd want to coach for if I had 32 choices. I know coaches on the market see these things when they consider their options. We wouldn't be getting the pick of the litter firing a coach who breaks the playoff streak, progressively gets an impossible roster to work with, and is scapegoated out of town. -

Offense can't get worse than Tyrod! Ranks among the dumbest things I've heard. We say this just 3 years after starting EJ, Tuel, and Thad in a season Call it a cult with a negative connotation if you want. I'll proudly be CoT if the alternative is thinking Nate Peterman and his Quarterbacks in crime are crushing it out there compared to what Tyrod did. That's all the thread is about so I guess CoT means not being a moron with Quarterbacks lol. -

So.. knowing that, maybe Beane could have not gone all defense in the past draft and get offense we desperately needed and gotten his DL this draft.. I mean he had to know the draft class coming up when he goes Harrison Phillips over interior O Line -
Notable Offensive Moves by McDermott
Bing Bong replied to jrober38's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah.. and he doesn't like contact. But I'd point out most great NFL receivers were in gadget plays. These are gadget offenses getting the ball to their best (future NFL 1st rounder) player quickly and easily. Hopkins played the same role I'd wager -

I can agree, I mean if someone come draft time is a killer prospect grab him. Doesn't mean we're giving up on JA (and he hasn't made the best of his limited opportunities), JA continues to start and the better QB eventually gets entrenched. Although I'm still pretty gung-ho about trading down to some desperate team for a ton of picks and doubt there's a great quarterback to justify a QB. -
Raiders release Bruce Irvin
Bing Bong replied to PirateHookerMD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
WHAT?!? Irvin is fantastic. McDermott's gotta go rogue and finagle a way to get him I love Irvin's game. I'm sure these last 2 years have been horrible for his motivation. But I haven't seen his game recently but 3 and 4 years ago the guy was impactful. Especially the Raiders solid offensive season where he was tasked with pass rushing shootout games (which DE's have to love). That ain't happening anytime on the Bills though but give him a good defense and maybe he changes his tune to being a key cog in a stacked defense. -

I loved and still love Sammy's game. Surprised he didn't get more numbers post Bills but I saw the Ram's offense rarely throw deep (Sammy), and Goff was getting his feet wet throwing to Woods and Cupp midrange, fantastic route runners. Not to mention Gurley's giant usage rate (800 yards receiving to boot). and the Chiefs offense is so damn good Sammy just really is #3. Butt I guess in retrospect the trade should have been made. He had one more year, and was malcontent to the point it didn't seem likely he'd stay, and a second and EJ Gaines is a great haul. That said, given Tyrod's obvious chemistry with Sammy I think we beat the Jags absolutely and go to the divisional round (would be amazing).. and idk man I'd take that if I had to choose between the trade and divisional playoff football. -
Nope i'd love EJ on the roster rn lol I'm sure Whaley will feel the same way if things don't turn around for Beane. Something along the lines of "I tried to win every year, accommodate coaching changes and build the best possible roster as fast as possible and failed, and this guy was employed longer than me because he told you to trust him??"

Lol. Those will be some tough results to get, but quality tank coaching, manipulating other Quarterbacks injury reports to justify Peterman, and just good old fashion sucking might get us some must lose results. I think the post is satirical. It's too funny not to be. -
Yeah his best resume job is Alabama with 5 NFL linemen pancaking through every line of defense. I imagine him telling McD, "we just gotta pancake the DL and LBs I came up with that strategy in Alabama and it worked super well for us. All from my scheme."
