(hypothetical) Alabama vs. Bills spread
Bing Bong replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I already said run the damn wildcat every play, put Trumaine Edmunds up there to block and show Alabama what a young man who is far from a bust should look like in college. All those projected high draft picks will find out real quick if they belong in his tier. Also it's been said already Peterman beat national champs Clemson. College is easy for these dudes. He wasn't at a league history worst QBR, he was great, good enough to be drafted, good enough for Gruden to say.... https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/jon-gruden-made-wild-prediction-about-nathan-peterman-before-2017-nfl-draft/ RED FLAG! ABORT! DON'T DRAFT SOMEONE GRUDEN WANTS I'd change it to PetermanBeatClemson when we get relegated to CFB and become the most dominant program ever.. because we'd have the best quarterbacks in the league. Sign Tebow and Johnny too. -

Cautiously optimistic man. What he's trying to do and will do I'm not going to bet is sure fire chance -
I'm just appeasing the seemingly large Luck haters. But the injuries have simply derailed his career. Sucks but Colts might be thinking they'd have Wilson rather. But IMHO Luck is fantastic. From rookie year when he played us I was psyched about his career. He gave us no chance and was methodical, smart, accurate. Moved the chains to kill clock before throwing a 2 score game winning TD with 2 minutes left on an 8 minute drive with a lot of completed in bounds passes. Rookies don't do that haha, they get nervous, mess up, hell even the good rookies just score too fast like setting up a FG for a 6 point lead instead of 10 with plenty of time on the clock. Most just throw interceptions or 3 and outs.

I'm hoping on it man. That's all I can speak for cause I don't know what's going through their heads, but impressionable players getting paid on losing in blowouts ain't good. It's all about the coaching and intangibles these guys carried with them from college. -
Why is he saying this now?! Tank is his only out "this is the best possible offense I can cobble together in an offseason, worst in NFL history.. but ***** I tried my hardest" If this is Beane not tanking and building his best team to win year after year in a regular.. then... Well he really shouldn't say that he tried to win this year lol

He's still a former defensive coordinator which is the metric OP is going by. You spend long enough as HC in the NFL and your specialty isn't going to always translate to that side of the ball being amazing (although it is many years the Pats win). Mike Tomlin is a former DC and that regime whiffs on defenders and nails offense. The line of recievers they've had is probably the best the NFL has ever seen. OP's point is McD is a former defensive coordinator and that doesn't work. The above 2 are former DCs that worked.

True, but they've been getting killed on NFL gambling lines this year is all I'm saying.. relative to other years. Atyptical NFL seasons where blowouts or at least crazy high scoring is screwing up those "any given Sunday lines" of a 7 point game between a top team vs bottom. And I don't expect them to have any metric for hypothetical college vs pro.. so I see it like the gambling line of Godzilla vs King Kong in ping pong.. how on Earth can they measure that. Same bookies that made ludicrous lines on Mayweather and McGregor, no one knows what their doing when their crossing over leagues. -

I really don't blame the defense if they look like they give up sometimes. It's tough as a competitor knowing you don't have control over the other side of the ball scoring at least 10 no matter how well you play. I just hope that doesn't stick to these young players as "that's just professional football, get paid and work just hard enough to get paid again.. losing doesn't hurt as much as it used to be" going forward and they can put these experiences in perspective knowing their whole career is defined by their effort in winning whenever given the opportunity. And of course, they must learn to hate the Pats. Because I want Tre White to carry that Gronk hit into pure hatred to destroy the Bradyless Pats with no mercy.. when he's age 35 still harboring hate against a terrible Pats team from an experience 13 years ago. -

Honestly this article leads me to the conclusion that the Bills are going to be alright primarily due to the insane amount of old HOF quarterbacks (there's gotta be 6!) drafted frequently and consecutively playing at their top zenith level. I think externally more than incompetence internally (boy have we been incompetent) is a bigger reason for the drought and all them 8-8 seasons we've had in the Tom Brady era. We were simply a team not lucky enough to get a 10-6 season out of our *** like the Dolphins with Chad Pennington one random year to sporadically break a drought. It feels so similar to the Kelly, Elway, Young, Marino, Favre, Aikman years where these teams traded SB appearances and long runs of success.. Free Agency or not; we were on the lucky end of that spectrum and didn't see teams living a football style just like we have the past 2 decades. Of course those guys retired early and I think we see teams like the early 2000s where the 2001 Ravens, 2003 Bucs, 2002 and 2004 Pats, and (with a nerfed Brady and godsend Viniateri) and 2006 Steelers (with a nerfed Big Ben going 15-1 in 2005) where defense and simply a complete team can beat most of the run of the mill quarterbacks playing. Ya'll realize the top quarterbacks those years were considered McNair, Vick, McNabb, Culpepper, Trent Green and Hasselback were among the best? That's about to happen when these ageless HOF guys go away and mediocre to great (not necessarily elite) quarterback play from Josh Allen is all we need with obvious offensive improvements for when the time comes to be back to any given sunday.. any given season when the stars align and we make deep playoff runs.. All provided we have a complete package like those early Pats teams (Brady was a more clutch Alex Smith than he was a Dan Marino).. Things are gonna be allllright -

Avatars matter. I'd seriously consider a 50 point spread if Vegas knew what they were doing (they've been getting owned this year with the lines expecting less CFB like blowouts. NFL is going through a weird transition with aging quarterbacks in their final Super Sayan III stage, and younger quarterbacks not named Russell Wilson, Cam Newton, or Matt Ryan finally stepping up to compete against them.. all leads to a huge disparity until the old guard finally gets the heck out of the league and the Bills won't have to play in a league with 6 HOF quarterbacks playing suspiciously ageless.. YAYYY!) So Vegas is dumb and I'd bet my life savings on this spread. Only thing holding us back is Daboll calling more than 10 pass attempts. -

I don't know why I'm having a ton of fun with this thread, because I find it so silly and am on the complete opposite end of the spectrum as you (I think it's a guaranteed *** whooping even if we were to cut our entire roster and play our practice squad and mess around with fun Wildcat plays lol.. it would be a fun relaxing Sunday for all Bills involved. Jerry Hughes would run in to take snaps and run over kids) 2017 Trent probably weighs 300 pounds I got him, you got Heavy Weight boxing champ v 2 Welter Weights! -

I think the Patriots / Brady are the only self-sustaining team that takes any sort of paycuts. Only other team that comes close to sustained success is the Steelers cause they draft so damn well. Like they never miss. Certainly don't take paycuts (see L Bell) but when you have Big Ben and constantly draft him Plaxico Burress then Hines Ward then Santonio Holmes then Mike Wallace then Emmanuel Sanders then Antonio Brown then JuJu Smith Schuster.. You're gonna be alright, not Pats level but what team has drafted consecutive receivers that well ever?? Old Bills were pre Free Agency. -

We could have offense play defense and defense play offense and win Edmunds at RB would put them to work. Ivory edge rusher, Shady safety -

Follow up hypothetical: can Matter Dai High School football beat.. Syracuse? UB? They have a ton of recruits going into CFB. In fact Syracuse can scholarship 90% of their roster if they wanted to. That would be like.. 100% of Mater Dei HS playing D1. Unprecedented. Bills can draft all Alabama grads and sign every remaining UDFA available.. every Alabama player could go pro. That would be unprecedented. -

Yeah and we can just replace them with all the Alabama UDFAs next year that are supposed to be better-than-bills good... Get it? we'll always be better than Alabama because they are literally feeding into the NFL. Except there's 200 other teams with pretty good players too. -
Are you seriously following your sentence saying there's a 2:1 ratio of offensive coaches and defensive coaches with the conclusion there are more successful offensive coaches and that proves which is better? THAT JUST PROVES A SUCCESSFUL COACH IS TWICE AS LIKELY TO BE OFFENSIVE BECAUSE... EVERY COACH IS TWICE AS LIKELY TO BE OFFENSIVE. But let's see.. 2013 John Harbaugh: defense, 2014 Pete Carroll: defense, 2015 Belicheck: defense, 2016 ??? (Wade Phillips' defense) 2017 Belicheck: defense, 2018 Pederson: offense So if the last 4 of 5 SB winning HCs are defensive, it means they do pretty darn well representing 1/3 of the league yet winning 5/6 Superbowls.

Can we just say the fact Trent Richardson was supposed to be the next Adrian Peterson with Alabama is available for us to play against Alabama.. the same guy who terrorized CFB is a FA we can simply grab to terrorize CFB some more but choose not to because he's not good despite being a BAMA HIGH DRAFT PICK. -
Why did Rex only get 2 years?
Bing Bong replied to RosenNOTchosen1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Probably because he didn't and never would sell himself as a long term investment. At least we knew he sucked and could fire him rather than Whaley and him blowing up the roster to have us holding our breaths we get the 2000 Ravens in 5 years. Guarantee Rex would be the coach if he tanked and basically made it a guessing game as to if him and his rookie QB he drafts (like Mariota or something?) were gonna be a dynasty (they wouldn't have been). But I liked the transparency knowing he sucked. I honestly have no idea with these guys since they made it so bad on purpose their competence can't be judged -

Yeah I don't agree with the article at all they act like it's a new trend, but it's just a crazy year for the NFL. It points that out with the Quarterbacks itself. Why are the teams tied up with huge QB contracts and the teams with good QB s on rookie contracts at the top ? there's an obvious gap of years in QB talent. Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Phillip Rivers, and Big Ben, Rodgers not too long after were all drafted in short succession. And then we never saw anything close to great consecutive QB drafts until possibly just about now. That's not the norm, it just happened. Similar to the early 2000s when the Marino, Young, Aikman, Kelly years were over and Favre was the only bridge.. the 1990 drafted QB on par with the 80s legends with no peers at his generation of QB drafts. like Matt Ryan and Russell Wilson are right now: pretty much alone in age class as an elite Quarterback. Favre won it all with a favorable contract. The guys win early when they don't hamstring talent and win late when they have the experience to compensate and are given some good drafts to reverse the contract disparity at the beginning of their career. Rodgers, Big Ben, Brees, Manning early. Manning close at his best season, Brees close right now. Goff and Wentz enjoying what younger Rodgers and Brees had. And Wilson and Ryan now betting on themselves and a good draft or 2. -

Half those guys just going 5 years back are available as free agents by now, and they were the best Alabama had. And we choose not to have them because there are 200 other schools with players too. -

We could take the entire Alabama alumni drafted into the NFL and busted to PS today on our roster today.. so going by draft position is a great measure. We'd have pretty much the entire recent Bama all stars, (Trent Richardson!!!) the past few years not named Cooper, Julio Jones, and the 20 or so other alumni playing impactful NFL football and we'd have all their former best players good enough to be drafted.. grown up.. today. But our current team is already better regardless cause we don't need to cobble together practice squad players. Because we're a professional team. Alabama can't pick up a college all star from a practice squad today like we can. -

It makes no sense. We could grab all of Alabama's best alumni lucky to be drafted into the league and on Practice Squads and start all of them and we'd be a terrible NFL team and the best college team ever lol. An expansion team of just PS players would wreck Bama -

2015 Alabama defense.. what a great future NFL team chockfull of starters lmao, guys would get SMOKED Saban wishes he had Ducasse and Miller on his roster right now lol. You're so worried about future draft position this dude was the first Alabama O Line player drafted John Miller's year and played like 6 games and bounced around practice squads Arie Kouandjio Never heard of him. But guess what? We can have him and start him against Bama if we wanted to! Duke had the top guard drafted.. duke! There's 200 teams with players all getting funneled into the NFL. It's not just "Alabama and some other dudes from some scrub school called Ohio State = NFL rosters" -

Dude even if half of them are NFL starters THEY HAVE ANOTHER HALF THAT WON'T EVEN SNIFF THE NFL. It's a game of matchups, we could run the ball at the one DE that would get smoked every down. They have a 2 maybe all-pros lol, so do we, they have NFL 20 starters at best (not even close) we have 53, they have 33 guys that would flat out suck, are 10 years less experienced, and can't hide behind stars around them when the team they're playing has stars at every position relatively. Even buying your argument. Think about the talent they DON'T have that every NFL team always has in spades.
