5 years, $100M with it a little backloaded. Out for the Bills after 3. It would be under $18M cap hit for the first 3 years. Then a dead hit in 2029 if they move on from him. If not, it means he is worth it. Groot and his agent should jump on that deal if he wants to stay a Buffalo Bill.

Agree, especially the BUT. First off Cleveland keeps saying they are not trading him. IF they are forced to it won't be easy for them. The recent news is they are going to designate Thornhill and Tomlinson as Post June 1st cuts. That means both their cap hits will stay on the books until then. Then it free up $10M which goes a long way in the $14M dead cap a Garrett Post June 1st trade would create. It seems to me IF Cleveland thinks they will trade Garrett before June 1 they would be sending out the word NOW (or at least by the Combine) later this week. If we don't hear about it soon, I don't see them able to swing the trade until AFTER JUNE 1st. The Browns already have some good draft picks this year. Trading for 2026/2027 picks would really help them in the long run. IF this was to happen, I think it would help Beane and the Bills a lot. Use this year's picks and THEN do the trade for Garrett.

I got no problem with this. As a matter of fact, I think Beane, McDermott and the coaches need to get a little tougher on a lot of players.

NFL Combine Thread: 2 (DB's & TE's)

Bishop was injured during camp and was a rookie. I doubt he is going anywhere. -
It would be wonderful for Beane to execute a trade for an elite pass rusher giving up only a reasonable return and that player succeeding in his role in Buffalo. For that to happen, one or more of these named players would actually have to be traded from their current teams. Then, Beane would have to give more than other teams looking to acquire the same player. Also, the player will have a say in it too. Does that player want to come to Buffalo? Even if Beane wants to push in his chips the trading team might now want to trade with Buffalo. Is Cincy really going to trade Hendrickson to their rival? While it would be great I for one am going to temper my expectations. The odds are not in favor of this working out the way we are dreaming. If this does happen the trade will need to be done right at the time of free agency. I don't think Beane has the luxury of waiting around.

James Cook will play for the Bills in 2025. He will not "hold out" all season. He is still on his rookie contract. It's nothing like what happened with LeVeon Bell. Beane will offer a contract to Cook and his agent. If they don't like it, they will move on as a UFA in 2026. A few social media tweets are blowing this thing way out of proportion.

He was a 7th round pick. Got released and signed to the PS.

The cap hasn't been "mismanaged". If anything Beane is too conservative handling the cap. If he wanted to, he could free up $60M-$70M in space in March. Typically, Beane has been a "pay as you go" GM compared to many. Tre, Von and Diggs wasted a chunk of money but that was driven by injuries and Diggs doing Diggs things. All 3 of those should have been among the "pro" elite type guys. Overpaid some for Knox but that is not a cap killer by any means. There was a huge turnover in starters last season and the team still performed. As for Josh and his cap. Beane is actually using cap for a good % of Josh's AAV. As of now no cap is pushed out past the end of Josh's contract. Compare that to Hurts who already has $100M pushed out PAST the end of his contract. Like I said, if anything Beane is too conservative.

Allen was included in Wyoming's Hall Of Fame class today!

Congrats Josh! -
I'm not sure what you are concerned about. Spencer was signed to a contract that pays him "on average" of $18M per year. He is only costing $8M in cap this year. Thus, the future years are a little more than $18M. Brown's contract is much less than what top Right Tackles are making. This is how the majority on NFL contracts are handled throughout the league.
-
He costs more to cut than to keep. Brady needs to get Josh and Curtis on the same page this summer and Curtis needs to stay healthy and step up to the challenge.
-
This is now on Beane, no question he needs to step up.

Yes. After that, make a decision on his future. -
Player's "cap costs" are not evenly spaced throughout their contracts. Every year is different. A recent new contract was for Spencer Brown. You can see how different the cap costs are. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/player/_/id/72474/spencer-brown
-
Yes it does. If cut in March, his "void year" cost in rolled into the total dead cap for 2025. His total guaranteed in 2025 is only $3.9M https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/player/_/id/14523/daquan-jones

True. Although the Top 51 cap limit is not affected much by draft picks. Temas need that cap space for FA the most. The Bills typically need only $2M to sign their draft picks.
-
The CBA was written to take care of the low end. Every year the rookies, vet minimums and even the PS players get around a 7% raise. That equates to the average overall cap increase, although that got knocked off some because of the Covid years. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/cba

Yes, I know. BUT the team would have to carry his complete cap hit until June. Cut him in March so the cap savings can be used in FA.
-
If you wait to June 1st you have to carry his whole cap during the spring. They need some of that money for FA IMO.
