What is better, no guns, or more guns?
jkeerie replied to Security's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
But not until after 4 people were shot...one fatally. -

Attempted Assassination on President Trump (x2)
jkeerie replied to Walking Tall's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Apparently, the entire perimeter was open and unprotected. The SS is saying it was the purview of local law enforcement. People in the stands could see the kid and we're trying to alert the authorities but no one was paying attention. Their focus was the immediate crowd. -

And a $15 donation to a progressive group (not the Democratic party per se) means nothing. The kid may have been concerned about climate change. I don't think this kid was political at all. -

I agree. This is just my opinion but likely this had nothing to do with politics. This kid was lashing out and wanted to make a statement. This was a public event, near where he lived with lots of people. His opportunity. Anyone who is pointing fingers at one side or the other is part of the problem. Too many shootings in this country...period. -
He was talking about his charity before he made his comments. Likely, he's trying to rile up the Bills fan base so they start donating! You hit the nail on the head!

I think it was the latter. -

I lost my Dad in 2006 but one of my favorite memories was sharing wine and Monday Night Football with him one evening. I was visiting for the holidays. My Dad was hard to buy for, so that Christmas I bought a nice set of two bottles of French wine in a nice wooden case. The Monday after Christmas that year, Green Bay was playing. I can't even recall who they were playing, but I recall it was a good game. Mom was watching her sitcoms in their bedroom. Dad went out into the kitchen and came in with the bottle of white wine and two wine glasses. We enjoyed the wine and the game. Then...Dad went back into the kitchen and brought in the bottle of red. So...we killed two bottles of wine (albeit I do believe Mom got a glass) watching and enjoying that game. It was one of my fondest memories. -
They were saying it was cheaper for people to fly to Paris and watch the Taylor Swift concert there, than try to catch a concert in the US.

				Harrison Butker…oy vey…what a commencement “speech”
jkeerie replied to eball's topic in Off the Wall
I agree he is entitled to his opinion. I disagree with your statement about living in a "world where celebrating the nuclear family is negative." I don't see that. However, what I do see is a movement within this country to take steps backward when it comes to the rights of women and minorities. I think that has created a hyper-sensitivity when we hear rhetoric that even hints of supporting that. It's like if you took the Army's slogan, "Be All You Can Be" but added the addendum, "By the way, all you can be is...." (fill in the blank). -

I think I was more taken aback by his not so veiled reference to Israel and the Jews killing Jesus. I mean shades of Mary Kay Place's sitcom character years ago when she refers to the Jews as "the people what killed our Lord." 😄 -
Don't go for ad free. Get the basic package with ads. It's 6.99 plus tax per month. The ads are not the least intrusive. Much better than watching regular tv ads.

I subscribed to Netflix for one month just to watch the miniseries adaptation of a book I had read. Since I had the month, I watched the series and binge watched a number of movies that I wanted to see. I'll do the same for this. I'll subscribe for the month...watch the games and any other movies etc that I want to watch. Then I'll unsubscribe. It cost me $7.60 (including tax) for the ad supported tier (ads were not much of an intrusion). I know folks want to complain on principle. You used to be able to watch the games for free over the air waves on your antenna supported TV. Well, guess what? You can still do that...watching whatever games are broadcast on CBS and Fox on Sundays and Thanksgiving. There are other options today though to watch even more football on Thursday nights and Christmas day (a Wednesday) for those who want to pay for those services. I'm sure many migrated to cable TV rather than deal with the rabbit ears, to get more channels and more viewing options. Streaming is just the latest platform...and you have services that you can subscribe to one month and unsubscribe the next. It all depends on where you prioritize the spending of that $7.60.

I was signed up for auto-renewal and got a notice that the new renewal rate would be $29.99 per month. No thank you. So...I called the "local" number and yes, got the call center with someone with a dialect. She offered me 3 free months and $4.99 per month thereafter. I took it but expected the renewal 5/12. Prior to that, I did check my online account that was still earmarked auto-renewal and it reflected the price she quoted me. On 5/12 my account was blank, but I was still able to access the e-edition. Then yesterday, I saw my account was permanently stopped. That's when I called today and found out their issues. The associate couldn't even check online to see if my account will/did renew. I want to support local newspapers, but the price has to be reasonable.

The Buffalo News is messed up. I called because my online account, rather than renewing, was showing as permanently stopped. I called the number and the gal in the call center said that they were doing system upgrades that temporarily cancelled everyone's subscription. I was able to access the e-edition on my phone, but hopefully this gets fixed soon.

Tommy Sweeney signed with Bears after tryout.
jkeerie replied to sunshynman's topic in The Stadium Wall
I was thinking...they signed the Demon Barber of Fleet Street! -
It's been obvious since Beane arrived. This is a collaboration. I loved in the video how Beane was picking the brains of the assistant coaches to Garner their input.
 -
I think they both were in agreement Van Pran would be a target.
 -
They had their plan. They had their board. They stuck to them both. I trust their judgement over the fan base. They got great value throughout this draft considering they were picking at the bottom of the round. Beane said in that round they would go Davis first, then Van Pran.
 -
Beane said in his presser moving up in the draft was going to cost pick 60. He was unwilling to give that up since they had more players with 2nd round grades and saw day 2 as the real value in the draft.
 -
Just finished watching it. Very juiced about this draft class.

Random talking head says something about the Bills
jkeerie replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall
The writer of this article is grasping at straws. -
That's because a lot of fans experience watching college football consists of watching the NFL Combine. I'm guilty of that one. Mea Culpa!

Going unnoticed by many in all of their criticism of the Bills draft, 7 out of the 10 players the Bills drafted were in Daniel Jeremiah's top 150. I did this math yesterday out of curiosity, but Chris Brown just made the point on OBL since Arizona is being touted for selecting 8 of their 12 picks out of Jeremiah's top 150. The difference...Arizona was drafting 4th in each round and had two selections in the first round...before the Bills selected even one. The Bills were drafting at the bottom of each round. Now...Jeremiah may not be the be all and end all of draft analysts. However, he is well respected and his rankings of top players are for the most part consensus. So...even though this is a "reload" as Shaw points out...it is a well-executed, well-planned reload.
