  1. There was another team that drafted a pass rusher in the first, 31st overall in 2010. They only used him in spot duty, only getting a few starts in his 3 seasons with that team. After not having a ton of success in spot duty, they traded him to another team for a JAG linebacker drafted a year after him. He immediately earned a starting spot, and signed a big contract in 2015, while the linebacker they traded for was sent packing after the 2013 season, and is now out of he league after spending time with several different teams. Sound familiar? It should. The Colts gave up on Jerry Hughes after 3 limited seasons, and the Bills have been reaping the benefits ever since. I'm not going to say Shaq will enjoy similar success. Only that you don't give up on a 1st round talent entering his 3rd season unless there are serious locker room/effort/injury concerns (the kind that don't heal and will effect his career outlook). As much as I've been disappointed with him so far, he's only been in the league for 2 years. Let's give the guy a chance before moving on.
  2. Most definately. I agree with what you said about depth being stronger in previous years. I think the thing to focus on is that, like you said, it's year 2 of this rebuild. I fully expect the depth to be handled with more continuity, once they get the starters filled out with their hand picked guys that fit the process. I'm looking forward to it. I'm with you on my expectations of this year as well. At this point I wouldn't be shocked if we win 2 games or 10. I just want to see momentum. Signs that our 7th overall pick quarterback can be the answer, even if he isn't Aaron Rodgers 2.0 this year. Signs that the other high picks can be reliable starters in the future, and that a few of our late round picks can step up to fill the gaps.
  3. Name one team that has quality depth throughout the entire roster. There isn't one. Every team has key players that they can't be as successful without. Even the fabled Patriots. Remember when we beat them at home a few years ago? Because Marsha and JG were suspended/injured. The 3rd string qb wasn't good enough even with BB coaching to beat the Bills. Most teams don't have solid depth throughout because there is a shortage of starting quality players in the league. Most teams have players starting that have no business being first string nfl players, but they are starting because there just aren't that many people on this planet capable of doing the job. The people that are good enough are usually starting, or are burried on a depth chart until someone goes down or coaching sees they are ready (think Milano). I get what you're saying, but if you want 53 starting caliber players on this roster, you will never be happy.
  4. While I generally agree, the aggressiveness you want is situational. The coaches you named, guys like Tomlin and Peyton, those guys have first ballot HOF quarterbacks on their rosters. They have for a long time now. It's easy to make an aggressive decision when you know your qb gives you an unusually high handle of success. Last year we had Tyrod Taylor, a guy who often checked it down, didn't take chances with the football, and was generally struggling in the passing game. If we had attempted more 4th downs, we would have seen more 3 yard passes to Tolbert.
  5. This crap blows my mind. People act as if nfl teams should get built overnight. Name a single opportunity the Bills have had at acquiring a top tier wide receiver. They had one chance to get a solid guy, and they traded a 3rd for him. Other than that, what were they going to do? There was nobody in the draft they would have taken high, and if they took a wr instead of Allen or Edmunds there would have been riots. Should they have traded a first for Antonio Brown or Julio? I genuinely don't know what you expected them to do. The time to get a wr will come, and I expect them to do it when the opportunity is there. For now they built up the secondary in year one, and addressed the front 7 and qb so far in year two. It will take time.
  6. Give me a break.. the guy quoted a tv show he liked when he was 14. They are picking on him because he's a high profile rookie that is looked at as a boom or bust prospect. I guarantee you if Bills players had a problem with what he said we would have heard about it by now, but we haven't. Get over it.
  7. Here you go. Note: I only went from 2000-2015 as many of the players from there on haven't had a chance to start, sitting behind entrenched starters. I also apologize if anyone disagrees with the names on here. I'm too young to remember a lot of these names, and like the OP said, it's a subjective topic. I was more going for players who's completion percentage does not directly correlate to NFL success. I also went from 60% and up instead of 62%. The other thing to look at here, it becomes really really obvious when college systems started changing over to a spread look. Early on in the list, there are very few guys with 60%. As it goes, you will see a ton of guys with great completion percentages in college who have had little to no success in the NFL. 2000 Chris Redman 61.4 Tim Rattay 65.4 Joe Hamilton 61.7 2001 Josh Heupel 63.3 2002 David Carr 62.7 Brandon Doman 62.1 2003 Byron Leftwich 65.1 Rex Grossman 61 Kliff Kingsburry 65.4 2004 Josh Harris 61 B.J. Symons 64.4 2005 Charlie Frye 63.6 Sefan Lefors 66 2006 Matt Leinart 64.8 Kellen Clemens 61 Ingle Martin 62.1 Omar Jacobs 64.5 Bruce Gradkowski 68.2 2007 JaMarcus Russell 61.9 John Beck 62.4 Jeff Rowe 60.8 Troy Smith 62.7 2008 Brian Brohm 65.8 John David Booty 62.3 Dennis Dixon 63.9 Erik Ainge 60.6 Colt Brennan 70.4 Andre Woodson 61.9 2009 Mark Sanchez 64.3 Pat White 64.8 Nate Davis 60.3 2010 Tim Tebow 66.4 Mike Kafka 64.1 Dan Lefevour 66.4 Tony Pike 61.7 Levi Brown 62.9 Sean Canfield 64.1 Zac Robinson 61.1 2011 Blaine Gabbert 60.9 Christian Ponder 61.8 TJ Yates 62.3 Greg McElroy 66.3 2012 Robert Griffin III 67.1 Brandon Weeden 69.5 Chandler Harnish 61.9 2013 EJ Manuel 66.9 Geno Smith 67.4 Matt Barkely 64.1 Ryan Nassib 60.3 Tyler Wilson 62.6 Zac Dysert 63.8 Sean Renfree 64.7 2014 Johnny Manziel 68.9 Aaron Murray 62.3 Zach Mettenberger 61.8 David Fales 68.1 Keith Wenning 63 Tajh Boyd 64.3 2015 Garrett Grayson 61.8 Sean Mannion 64.6 Bryce Petty 62.7 Special Mentions: Matt Schaub 67 Tarvaris Jakcson 35.4 (yes really)
  8. Everything about Tom Brady defies all logic, I think it would just get worse if I bought one. He would play into his mid 70s, win 15 more superbowls, and collect social security while doing it. I have to get Darnold while he's young.
  9. I feel your pain. First jersey was Stevie, the year we got rid of him. Got an Alonso jersey for Christmas the year before we traded him. After that came a Watkins jersey.. My dad even had a Dareus jersey. I'm thinking about buying a Darnold jersey next, then he'll never even suit up for NY.
  10. Man, I love what the Bills have done with their front 7 this offseason. Bringing back Kyle, we still have Jerry, adding Star, Murphy and now Phillips. I think we effectively replaced Dareus with players who are both significantly cheaper and better locker room guys. All that combined with Edmunds running the show at MLB and our already strong secondary, look out.
  11. I'm gonna sum this up so people don't have to read all of the whining.. "wahhhhhhh!" Saved you guys 3 minutes of pessimism.
  12. Probably because the difference between these two wasn't as drastic as fans and the media make it out to be. If you ever watch a full game of Allen (not a highlight reel), you'll see a guy in a league of his own. Under duress literally ever single play, making accurate passes all over the field and on the run. Sure, he misses some layups and air mails passes from time to time. But he does have accuracy, just needs a little consistency. Taking that into account, it's not hard to believe he can put it all together at the next level. That combined with his upside, and a personality completely opposite of Rosen, it's not an outlandish decision.
  13. I'd agree it's not THE most pressing need, but we need to surround Allen with better if we want him to pan out. Signing Dez would be a good move, a solid if older option that can bring some veteran leadership to the receiver corps and give Allen a reliable target.
  14. I watched the first round at work with a Browns fan who was stoked by the way it panned out. He wanted Mayfield months ago, and was pretty sad he didn't think the Browns would actually go for him. I was happy seeing how excited he got about him, I hope he pans out for you guys. As for Ward over Chubb, it makes sense. Ward is a solid man cover guy, and it eliminates the need to shell out an insane amount of money to both Chubb and Garrett in a few years.
  15. One of his most compared-to players is Cam Newton. Look at Cam's pre-draft stuff, it's quite similar. You'll see things like "big body, huge arm, crazy athletic for his size". You'll also see "needs to work on accuracy, reading defenses, making smart decisions with the ball". I for one am entirely shocked that two guys who coached/learned in Carolina and helped take Cam to a Super Bowl decided to draft a guy frequently compared to him. As for accuracy.. Jordan Palmer said a lot of stuff about it, so I'll just paraphrase rather than parrot him. He said the raw number isn't everything (another shock, I know). The team around him got significantly worse in 2017, as his mostly senior team from 16 all graduated and moved on. Yet, his completion percentage remained the same. It actually shows an improvement when factoring in that he lost a huge amount of his offense. Palmer and Allen both cited footwork issues that resulted in accuracy. That's coachable, to what extent remains to be seen. And the "unable to read a defense" thing, well I'm not sold on that narrative. At the very least, the potential is there, as he has proven to be very smart with the X's and O's. Let's wait and see if he can apply his intelligence to the field.
  16. A for me. I also wanted Rosen, but I would have been okay with any of the top 4, and I would have tolerated Lamar Jackson. Anything lower than that and I would have had a meltdown. In a weird way it actually makes me happy that we picked him with Rosen still on the board. It means we can trust that OBD wanted Allen, and weren't just defending their 4th choice guy by pretending we wanted him all along. The best pure passer was still there, but they obviously felt Allen was the better choice. Puts me at ease. His personality is also miles ahead of Rosen for what that's worth. Dude cried that he got picked in the top 10 and is now a multi millionaire. As for Edmunds, I don't care that they gave up a third. We basically traded Tyrod for a consensus top 1 or 2 linebacker. When you have a defensive system that thrives with great lb play, and a great lb is on the board with a huge hole there on the roster, you make the move. This draft is on the coaching staff now. They got two of the highest potential players in the draft, with a qb that has the highest ceiling of anyone in recent memory, but also has a high chance for a bust. If the coaching staff does their job and these two pan out, we're on our way to being Super Bowl contenders. If not, back to square one.
  17. No one is saying they can do no wrong. They're supporting the new quarterback. Judging by your profile picture and username, you were obviously a big Tyrod supporter. Comparing their college stats, they had about the same completion percentage, and were close on yards per attempt. Allen threw for the same exact amount of touchdowns with nearly 2 less full seasons played. He even had a higher passer rating, even with the interceptions. If you can get behind Taylor, who despite a 57% cp in college actually developed into a bubble starter (with none of the physical prowess that Allen possesses), I don't see why you wouldn't be able to support JA.
  18. Im assuming you're the Browns fan that's been posting on here. Terry and Kim Pegula own the Bills, which is why everyone is guessing they're going to discuss trade details.
  19. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sbnation.com/platform/amp/nfl/2018/4/23/17268498/2018-nfl-mock-draft-josh-rosen-sam-darnold-josh-allen This mock has us getting Rosen at 12, and Vander Esch at 22. I don't know about you guys, but this would be an absolutely incredible draft. The most pro ready passer and a star linebacker without trading a single pick. Is this even possible? Is there any chance these two are available for us?
  20. I cant for the life of me understand this thought process. We have a very rare opportunity to get something we haven't had in decades, and we want to fill holes instead? What happens if those guys pan out? We go 3 years with a loaded roster that's missing a quarterback, then we lose at least half of them in free agancy when we have to pay them. Meanwhile our offense is mid tier at best. I just don't get it. This is definitely a concern of mine with Darnold. Didn't start till late in high school and only has 2 years starting in college. He is going to be a potential NFL starter with 3 seasons played between high school and college.
  21. For clarifaction, it's not what I expect to happen. Just the narrative being sent out by the media, which as we all know has little to no bearing on reality.
  22. It always blows my mind how much projections change between the end of the college season and the draft. No more games will be played, yet prospects fly all over the consensus draft boards anyways. After months of seeing Darnold and Rosen mocked to picks 1 and 2, it would seem many now expect them to fall. In this hypothetical, we're able to get to 5 or 6 with both of these guys on the board. My choice is Rosen. Darnold may well end up being the better of the two, but right now he isn't. His improvisation skills are amazing, but his hitch in his throwing motion, propensity for turnovers and his happy feet in the pocket have me worried. I like his potential, but I'm not sold. Rosen on the other hand is as pro ready as they come. Textbook mechanics, great in the quick pass game which will benefit guys like Benjamin quite a bit, and the rare ability to manipulate the defense with his eyes and pump fakes while scanning the field very quickly. I see a lot of Manning in him, the way he's looked at as the more 'cerebral' prospect. Who do you pick?
  23. I would be more than fine with it. We could sit there and take whichever qbs Cleveland and NY doesn't take, or we could give the Giants a better reason to trade back with us if we want to get ahead of the Jets. Best case scenario, we get our guy for less than the price of #2. Worst case, we trade up a third time and get our guy.
  24. Depends who Beane wants. If his top choice is Jackson, then yeah, no need to move up to get him. If he wants Darnold, Mayfield or Rosen, better get ahead of the Jets or risk them taking your guy. What a kick in the balls that would be, spending all that time and money scouting your top choice qb just to get stuck playing him twice a year.
  25. If we can't get to #2 for a reasonable price, the Giants taking Barkley would help us. Assuming qbs go 1 and 3 then, we could swing a cheaper trade for 4 or 5, maybe even later and still have our pick of 2 of the 4 quarterbacks. If the Broncos pass on one as well, that opens us up to move to 6 for our guy. If the rumors are even somewhat correct, and Allen and Mayfield go to the Browns and Jets, we could have our choice of the top 2 guys without paying a stupid amount of picks. I would be ecstatic.
