  1. If you were gonna act like a clown, could you not have stolen my name along with it?
  2. Good thing his performance during his drunken escapades isn't included in scouting reports. I would hate to miss out on an elite prospect because he did dumb **** once when he was drunk.
  3. Where did you get you're information on this? I've never heard of that. Not debating you, just genuinely curious.
  4. I know you're probably joking, but we can't ignore that Goff, Wentz, Mariota and Cam are all also between those two quarterbacks. So is Tannehill, for what that's worth. It also has Russell ahead of Matt Ryan, Rivers, and the other guys I just mentioned. Basically it doesn't mean much.
  5. Thanks for the correction. Was a bit too young to remember exactly how that went, I just knew we took Losman at 22.
  6. Thats what I was thinking. One in a hundred? It worked twice in one draft. I really can't understand why people want to play the game of "let's just take what falls to us". I think we tried that once, and the guy that fell to us is unemployed while the others are either Hall of Fame bound or at the very least have been solid starters for over a decade.
  7. I get that, but this thread isn't calling out people suggesting we trade for Aaron Rodgers or convince Peyton to come out of retirement. He's blowing up over people wanting to make a move that we appear to have been posturing for for over a year now. I don't think it's illogical to want to make a move up for the most important position. Nor is it illogical or stupid to make an argument for keeping our picks and loading up the roster. Its also natural that people will be disappointed if they don't get what they want. I don't think they're stupid for wanting something different, but obviously they will all have to get over it.
  8. Having a bad day bud? Want to talk about it? Dude, it's a message board. It's a place for people to express their opinions, whatever they might be. I think you're the one that needs to get over it. Nobody should be surprised that many fans want a top level quarterback prospect for the first time this century. No need to be a dick about it.
  9. The Vikings emptied their wallet on Cousins, and the Rams seem to be trying to put the entire nfl on the roster. I'm not sure how much else either of them can do in free agency.
  10. This. All of this. I don't care where he goes, Hollywood or to a team outside the division. I was rewatching the second Bills-Pats game of this past season the other day, with that insane one handed touchdown grab in the endzone. It was impossible to stop, he just does some things that you can't defend with scheme or talent, and with Brady throwing the ball there is really nothing you can do sometimes.
  11. Jackson is not my first choice, but this is just untrue. Watch some film breakdowns of him done by people that know more than either of us about the position. You will see a ton of examples of Lamar standing firm in the pocket, looking through multiple reads and throwing a catchable ball in the face of pressure. He even does some Brady-like moves in the pocket, taking small but effective steps up or away from pressure while still keeping his feet set and his eyes downfield, and reading the whole field. He generally doesn't take off to run unless there is legitimately nobody open and his time in the pocket has expired, and he uses that to create some mind blowing plays. Now I'm not saying he's Brady or even close, just that the film disagrees with your assessment. He's a passer first with an amazing ability to run when the play breaks down.
  12. Maybe more yards run naked after punting a window. Does PFF track that yet?
  13. I wouldn't be surprised to see a bandaid player fill this spot this year. Someone on a one year deal. It should be a priority next season assuming we land our qb this season.
  14. I was listening to a podcast recently that did an interview with a scout, and he had some interesting things to say about the quarterbacks. Basically, there's often a disparity between the opinions of the fans and the guys who get paid to find NFL talent. His biggest examples were Allen and Lamar Jackson. He said many fans loved Jackson, and were confused as to why front offices didn't love him so much or even wanted him to change positions. Allen was the opposite. Fans think he's a surefure bust who will only be drafted for his size/arm strength, but it seems he is looked at very differently by the professional scouts. I guess there are things that they see in these prospects that lead them to very different conclusions than us armchair GMs.
  15. This draft was probably the best quarterback class in the history of football. This is the only time a draft like this has happened. Pointing to this as an argument is like pointing to Brady and saying we should take our guy in the 6th round. It only happened once. Not to mention, in the last 30 plus years teams have got much better at scouting quarterbacks. That doesn't mean they always get it right, but when you have guys projected to be future stars at the position, they go top 5 at the least. Sure we could wait at 12 or even take one at 22, but the consensus top guys will be long gone. I think there's a reason they are considered the top guys in a strong class.
  16. Always loved your posts Shaw, since the BBMB days. I agree with everything you've said, this offseason has been a breath of fresh air. It seems like our FO finally has a real vision, and they are making whatever moves necessary to make it happen. Now we're in prime position to move up and get our guy, and that hasn't come at the expense of fixing holes throughout our team. Have to love it so far.
  17. This is pretty much how I feel about it. I'd rather have just kept TT then take crapernick. Same skill set without the drama. I think both qbs were huge benefactors of Greg Roman. That Power O based offense worked really well for mobile guys with big arms, and once the system was gone both players regressed.
  18. Im not sure if he could shoulder the load here in Buffalo. Sorry, I couldn't help myself.
  19. Yes I do, and no, I've been watching football my entire life, I'm well aware of the difference between good and EJ Manuel. He's still in the league because he's cheap (nobody is going to pay him much) and because he has the physical prototype that teams look for. Makes for a half decent backup if you already have your starter in place.
  20. Most of the well connected people feel that the Colts need a pass rusher bad enough that they will not trade out of their spot, and instead take Chubb to fill that need. Doesn't mean it's impossible, but you may have to offer them significantly more than the pick is worth to get there. I think if the Browns take Barkley, the Giants would be more willing make a trade that's more in line with the actual value of their pick, as it gives them a chance to take several quality players to put with Eli to make a run in his last few years.
  21. Isn't this the movie that we have seen too many times? How many veteran cast offs have we tried in the last 20 years, while having a Cardale Jones or Peterman developing behind them? Sure we've seen other teams miss on high qbs, but the Bills have taken so few actual shots at one over the drought. I'm in my 20s and the only first round qb I can clearly remember drafting is EJ, and that's just sad. I understand your point. If we trade away this draft for a quarterback that busts, we lose out on an opportunity to get 5 impact players and hit the reset button with no qb and no talent. But in my irrelevant opinion, I think it's a risk you have to take. Payoff is too big.
  22. Completely agree. I think the other factors are all relevant, but the strength of the class makes moving up a "must" in my opinion. If we're lucky, the Giants might think they can get 3 or 4 more years out of Eli which could give them time to find another prospect they like. If I were them I'd take one now and develop.
  23. I wouldn't be upset with Lamar. I trust this front office for once, if they think he's a franchise guy I'm all in. My gut still says Darnald Rosen or Mayfield though, Allen if they believe they can fix his accuracy problems.
  24. This is going to end up being a lengthy post, so: TL/DR: move up and draft a qb With that out of the way, I wanted to make a counter-argument for one of the most popular phrases I've seen both on the message boards and on any social media concerning the Bills. The "We have too many holes" argument. A ton of fans seem to think the best approach to the 2018 draft is to sit back, enjoy our 6 high picks, and fill out the many holes that we have on this roster. I actually agree with part of this, as there is no denying that despite a playoff appearance last season, we really do have a ton of needs. We need a quarterback, 1-2 wide receivers, possibly a 3rd running back, at least one offensive lineman, and damn near an entire front 7. Sitting back at 21 and 22 and taking a need based BPA approach makes logical sense, as we could be a much more complete team heading into the next season. That being said, there are just too many reasons to take your shot this year and obtain the elusive franchise quarterback. Rebuilding a team is not a 1 year thing It's crazy to me how few fans seem to understand this. Just because the Eagles "rebuilt" in two years en-route to a Lombardi doesn't mean every team can do this. Not only did they make a blockbuster trade to acquire their franchise passer, they also had a very good team build around them beforehand. So good, that their backup qb (who is very good but not elite) was able to beat Tom Brady and the fabled Patriots in the biggest game of the year. We absolutely do not have the talent that they do, so we are not build for the same kind of turn-around. It's going to take time. Quarterbacks have the biggest impact They might have the biggest impact from a single position in all of sports. Not only can they allow you to score quickly when necessary, a true franchise passer can impact every stage of the game from the pocket. They can allow receivers to do what they do best with the ball in their hands. They force the safeties out of the box to let guys like McCoy run rampant. They convert key 3rd downs to give the defense more time to rest. Hell, they even often give the punter some help by having a greater chance of moving up the field a bit before punting as opposed to a 3 and out from the 25. One player can conceivably have a bigger team impact than 5 skill position players taken in the first 3 rounds. Draft classes like this do not come often Many say there are no standout quarterbacks in this class. Well, that's because there are 3-4 (depending on how you feel about Allen) who all have a chance at being top 5 guys, and it's hard to standout among that kind of talent. Make no mistake, this may be the best qb class in a very, very long time, and this opportunity won't come again soon. Just because there is no Manning or Luck in this years class does not at all mean there is nobody worth selling the farm to get. EJ should be a lesson learned Loading the team with talent now seems great short term, but that means our options will be taking a retread from another team, or drafting a quarterback next year in a weak class. That's exactly how we ended up taking EJ Manuel, one of the worst quarterbacks I've ever seen in this league. You can't force this kind of thing, take them when they are available. The other options are bandaids, not long term answers When I first thought of making this post, Tyrod was still a Bill and Cousins was still a possibility. That is no longer the case, so our options are much more limited. The options are now: Foles, Keenum/Bradford/Bridgewater, or a true placeholder like Anderson or McCown. Foles would require draft picks anyways, so that should scare off anyone afraid to trade up and lose picks. Keenum was a one year wonder on an extremely talented team loaded with weapons, and the other two Vikings are a good hit away from seeing Peterman get another start. Unless you've been busy with high level business meetings, you really shouldn't want to see that. Lastly, this team is set up to explode in 2019/20 Assuming we end up with our franchise passer, 2019 could really be our year. Dareus' stupid contract is off the books. Wood's contract will be gone as well, along with Kyle, and probably Clay, among others. If we can avoid sending next years picks, we will have a full draft as well as a ton of cap space to build this team around our shiny new quarterback. To me, that step backward in 2018 seems much more enticing than dumpster diving for a qb on a team that's a passer away from being a legit contender. If you're one of the "too many holes guys", I'd love to debate that. Lets take the shot this year and get what we haven't had since Kelly.
  25. Your username fits the post. Refusing to take a shot at a franchise qb in a draft loaded with top end qb talent, picking the types of players that will be available in literally every draft class ever, and going with a retread of some sort to continue the mediocrity we've become accustomed to is pretty much punting the offseason away. Next years qb class looks awful at this point, and other than Cousins (who's not an option) there is nobody available in free agency or trade that would fit the bill as a franchise passer. If there was ever a time to make a move and get your guy, this is the time.
