I've been against the comp pick system, regardless of the intent. I just don't think teams should be rewarded for letting talent walk. And I'd feel the same way even if the Bills had been receiving lots of comp picks over the years. I just think it's a dumb system.

Ryan Fitzpatrick leaning toward retirement
MJS replied to BuffaloBills1998's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Having the drive and passion to play is drastically different than having the drive and passion to coach. He very well might have that, or he might not. -
Tre Edmunds and Isaiah McKenzie on GMFB
MJS replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd be a little surprised if McKenzie had significant interest from other teams. Maybe I'm wrong. But I would like to have him back if the numbers make sense. -
[Vague Title] Is this it with cuts/restructures?
MJS replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, if he doesn't take a pay cut I think you cut him for sure. And if we can target a better pass rusher in free agency you cut him too. We'll see what happens. -

I bet both those guys get lots more playing time if Milano walks, though. -
Well in his defense, Big Ben has the personality of a stump.

Hopefully Addison takes a pay cut. -
If you cut him you still have to sign a guy to replace him. Restructuring makes sense.

Dang. I get the move but I'm sad to see him go. He is a good player.

I voted no. Not that I don't believe he could, but it is just far too early to predict something like that. McDermott won his first couple of playoff games. Levy has 11 playoff wins. McDermott has 38 regular season wins and a win percentage of .594, Levy has 112 regular season wins and a win percentage of .615. I just think the gap is too big right now to really compare. But I sure hope McDermott wins some Superbowls and overtakes everyone as best Bills coach ever. That's the dream.

Hyde is a very solid player, but I'm not sure if he is in the realm of best free agency signings of all time. In fact, I think Poyer was a better signing. Poyer was an unknown talent. And I think Poyer has been an overall more impactful player than Hyde. Some other all-time free agency signings: - Lorenzo Alexander - London Fletcher - Doug Flutie (this will make our resident Flutie haters mad) - Bryce Paup - Ted Washington - Mario Williams (even though he received a monster contract, he was elite for like 3 years) - James Lofton - Takeo Spikes Poyer and Hyde have to be in the conversation, though.

None of that means he wants to coach. -
Ryan Fitzpatrick leaning toward retirement
MJS replied to BuffaloBills1998's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My reaction to when people say that players should become coaches is "Why would they want to?" Especially the ones who have been successful and made a lot of money. Coaching seems like a sucky job, if you ask me. Especially when many of those players can make more money at a fraction of the amount of work required. -

I'm not sure if he would make a good coach or not. But he is a good leader, he is smart, and he has played in a lot of offensive systems and with a lot of different kinds of players. And he has been beloved by teammates everywhere he has played. Being a good coach requires a lot more than that, but it's a good start. First and foremost, however, he needs to have the drive and passion required to work very long hours and constantly be evaluating to stay ahead of the competition. It seems like a mentally exhausting job. -

Shouldn't he be used to that by now? His entire career has been in and out of starter jobs. -
I was impressed with his ability to dumpster dive and find competent players. But it's easier to find guys to contribute for a 6 to 8 win team. Finding guys that can help you get to 13 wins is a completely different animal.

Whaley was kind of a glorified scout. He was better at pro personnel than drafting anyways. But let's remember that our team was far less talented and sucked at winning much more. Some of those guys that Whaley brought in and who contributed may have not even have made the current roster. That's why a lot of models take into account the overall success of the team, because starting on a crappy team is much different than starting on a good team.

Nice job. I really liked your analysis before and this other analysis has some similarities to your results.

WFT going from cheerleaders to a coed dance team
MJS replied to Greg S's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am totally fine with removing all non-football related entertainment from gameday experiences. When a game is playing, I only care about the game. I don't care about cheerleaders or dance crews, drum lines, etc. People like watching that? Good for them, I guess. I feel the same way about cheerleaders, honestly. -
Chris Simms Has Zach Wilson Ahead Of Trevor Lawrence?
MJS replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hope he doesn't end up on the Jets because I actually like him and want him to succeed. Either he will be good, and therefore make it tougher for the Bills, or (more likely) the Jets will ruin him and he will be a backup or out of the league in a few short years. Both bad outcomes. -
Bills submit rule proposal change on interviews

Yes. It is stated pretty clearly in the article. That's all Beane talks about. -
Eagles submit rules change to onside kick

Continually taking the foot out of football. They should just go back to the old rules and call it good.
