  1. Yes, but in the first half, drives ended with 3 touchdowns and 2 fumbles. In the second the were 5 drives, the first - a three and out, all the rest ended in field goal attempts. Buffalo moved the ball, but couldn't punch it in the end zone. Bass wasn't even needed in the first half, except for kick offs.
  2. I you're not sustaining drives, 6.8 average depth per target could be a worrisome stat. In the first half at least, Buffalo moved the ball with ease. There are several possible reasons the Bills didn't move the ball as easily in the second half. including: the Jets defense made some good adjustments, Brian Daboll chose to dial down the creativity in order to save some stuff for future games and Buffalo played with less intensity. I don't know what the exact answer might be.
  3. I expect to see Buffalo with a couple tight ends on the field for a number of plays this coming Sunday. I think Lee Smith will be activated so he can act as a blocking tight end in tandem with Dawson Knox. They'll run some out of that set, but also pass a few more times to Knox.
  4. It would eliminate some, but not all goal line judgment calls. A microchip might be able to tell the ref that the ball crossed the plane, but it can tell him when the ball carrier had a body part touch the ground.
  5. Coaches can help a player develop, but at the end of the day, it's the drive in the player himself that plays the biggest role in where his career ends up. In the case of Darnold, I think Buffalo has his number. Sean McDermott's defense is in theory not all that complicated, maybe less complex than Gregg Williams' defense, but the bills defensive heads (McDermott and Frazier) are masters of deception and miss direction. The look they give pre snap is different from what the QB sees as the plays develop. Darnold is getting so confused he's "seeing ghosts." If he could run the play as he called it his mechanics would be fine, but when he gets confused his mechanics break down because he can't focus on the mechanics while he's trying to figure out what's going on on the field.
  6. Condolences. BTW, when your 98 year old mother dies, it's time to retire.
  7. It's possible McDermott will volunteer a little detail, (ie. "He's day to day." or "He might miss a little time.") but the only official information we'll get is confirmation that he missed practice.
  8. Adams got called up from the PS, but didn't embarrass himself any more than did Bell and Gore. Perrine was injured and didn't play. Don't know if he'll be back next Sunday.
  9. In Western NY, MSG has been rebroadcasting the game multiple times. I don't have the equipment to record though.
  10. Darryl Johnson has, I think, put on some muscle since a year ago, when he was pretty skinny for his height. If his frame can take it, I would think he could probably play at 265 given the fact he's listed as 6'6"
  11. Buffalo made a strategic decision to focus on pass offense on Sunday because the Jets' strength on defense is against the run. Devin Singletary had a few decent runs, but Moss was usually met in the backfield, not even getting a chance to build any forward momentum. I'm not qualified to analyze video, so I don't try. I assume the reason for Moss's ineffectiveness was mostly a mix of the Bills' blocking and the Jets sending more guys than Buffalo had blockers, not a lack of ability by Moss. Singletary's YPC was nothing to write home about either.
  12. Weather forecast for Hard Rock stadium on Sunday - In a word, tropical, but then it's like that every day in September. High temperature 87 degrees with scattered thunderstorms around. Rain won't delay a game, but a thunderstorm could.
  13. Conventional wisdom is it usually takes a couple seasons for a receiver to acclimate to the NFL before they reach their full potential. There are exceptions, but that's the rule. Buffalo is in win now mode. Diggs fits that circumstance better than a rookie.
  14. Besides Julian Edelman, the Patriots don't have great pass receivers, and are depending a strong running game, including Cam Newton. The Bills in theory have a much more balanced offense. They didn't show it versus the Jets, but the Jets defense is geared toward stopping the run, and Buffalo took what they gave them. I think Buffalo will be able to run the ball against Miami a lot better than they did versus the Jets, but I'm also guessing Buffalo and Josh Allen will pass the ball more effectively than New England did. Miami has good DBs, but Buffalo has one of the top receiver cords in the league. I don't think Daboll will be afraid to use them.
  15. A lot of posts want to give credit to the Bills' receivers and the Bills for building support around Allen. I like what the Bills are doing with Allen and I'm pretty happy with his play. There were about four plays between the Bills and a score on the north side of forty, the two fumbles and the two wild passes. It was interesting that the fumbles came on plays were Allen was making inside runs with lots of traffic and contact. The Bills may want to rethink about when and where they want Allen running even more than looking at how much they have him run. I don't know that there is any way to eliminate the occasional wild throw, except to hope that with time and experience, Josh can calm down more and that will reduce the wildness. In any case, the Bills are better off with a QB like Allen who can move the ball at will making a ton of good decisions and throws than a no talent game manager.
  16. It was a strategic decision by the Bills to have Josh Allen get rid of the ball quickly. That may not happen every week, but it worked well.
  17. I think he might be able to contribute if the Bills wanted to sign him.
  18. That's the nature of an offensive lineman. If they do their job, it's quiet and the QB gets the attention.
  19. For a moment I thought perhaps you were replacing Howard Simon.
  20. If the greatness exuding has gone up, and the head scratching remains a constant, that is still improvement.
  21. I was a little nervous before the game. I knew what everybody else knew, Buffalo on paper looks pretty good. The Jets don't. Yet without pre-season there was no evidence on the field we could point to in confirmation of the Bills' superiority. There was a nagging worry that the mad coach, Adam Gase, could pull something out of the hat that would give the Bills trouble. Now we know. Except for his penchant to lose his grip on the ball on occasion, Josh is still getting better. The defense is still good. Of course, I want to see more out of the run game. I think I understand why it struggled. The Jets have a very good run defense, and I think they made a concerted effort to shut down the Bills' run game because the knew Josh's ability to be a highly productive passer is still questionable, or at least it was questionable going into the season. A few 300 yard passing games will change that perception pretty quickly. Anyway, I think Gregg Williams decided the best way to beat Buffalo was to force Buffalo into a passing offense. My biggest worry coming out of the game is the health of Buffalo's linebackers. They didn't have a lot of experienced depth going into the game. Losing four of them, including their two best ones, for any length of time could be devastating.
  22. He has to become more consistent, and he has to do it quickly, but I'm not going to panic. He's a rookie who has never kicked in the NFL. This year was unique, denying Bass of the opportunity to even attempt a preseason field goal. Yes, as a kicker, he faced pressure situations in college, but pressure in the NFL is at an entirely different level. As I said, he needs to discover some consistency quickly, but it did not shock me that he struggled in his first game. I'm just glad the game wasn't closer.
