So.. all that Hopkins wants to win and is willing to work on the contract piece… not so much?

If what is being semi-reported is true… and Arizona doesn’t want to eat any cap, that new GM is going to have to lower his expectations and take a later pick or deal with a disgruntled star on his hands all season. Not sure how many teams, that Hopkins will work with, he sees out there with bucketloads of cap space.

Yea, I’m sure he desperately wants to be the KD of the NFL rather than be a legend on one of the few teams that can dethrone them. And, fwiw, Kelce is “the guy”.

Oh, yea, that was definitely under the assumption we trade for Hopkins. I could still see WR at 27 depending how it falls, and depending on how the FO views Davis long term.

Or what if Zay Flowers is there at 27. Gaine was at his pro day today. Could Buffalo take Zay Flowers and then look to move Gabe on Day 2 for someone who maybe didn’t get what they were hoping for in the draft?

It’s a pointless leak, but it also means the Cardinals have to take what they can get. Not too many teams Hopkins is willing to play ball with on a contract negotiation are able to clear the cap space needed without getting wild with the cap. Bills happen to be a team that’s either A) willing to get wild or B) have a conveniently movable player who’s cap hit frees up 10M.

In recent memory … I guess id say the Bills were pretty well linked with the EDGE sweepstakes last off-season. We just ended up with the guy we never saw coming.

I guess… RB is a spot you can plug and play. Not sure why we need a guy to learn for a year behind Cook, Harris and Hines.

Another team is involved. We’ve never heard anything really about recent signings (maybe some watch for this guy stuff), but that is between Buffalo and the player... Not Buffalo, Arizona, and the player.

If AZ isn’t eating any cap, I can’t imagine much is going back to them in return. Maybe a Day 3 pick this year and late Day 3 next year? If we’re looking at the Cooks/Dallas trade. Have to imagine Oliver is being moved or Beane was never that worried about kicking cap down the road. Not many other options out there for us to make it work unless they surprise move off Morse.

True, and I probably agree, but the longer these negotiations drag on, who knows what unexpected turns come about. It’s why I’m impressed/confused by how chill the Jets seem to be as if nobody will randomly decide, hey.. maybe we should take a run at Rodgers.

I don’t necessarily disagree with you on the OL piece. KC has invested heavily in their OL… both $$$ and the draft. Seems the Bills truly do believe Spencer Brown can become a Lane Johnson type freak.. and that seems to be guiding their OL moves as RT is the clear remaining question mark on that line after signing McGovern and bringing Edwards in as depth/competition. Im sure if he figures it out, it will happen not this year, but next year, just in time for us to gain nothing from his rookie contract but have to pay him.

Yea, let’s see .. and then let’s see how good they are without a highly invested in OL for Burrow, without the best WR trio in the league. KC made a great move with Hill. They also have quite a few high paid players (Kelce, Thuney, Taylor, Jones) and just restructured Mahomes two weeks ago. KC is the gold standard right now… no argument from me there, but they are still operating as if the cap is going up with the option to hit up the bank of Mahomes when needed.

Are you privy to negotiations for Hopkins that we aren’t aware of? You seem to be operating under the assumption that we stand pat, no corresponding moves, and take Hopkins full cap hit.

1) Nope. We traded for Von to address that. It is what it is. Have to hope it works out. 2) No idea what to take from that game. Absolute dumpster fire, with crazy circumstances, I don’t know … I don’t want to make excuses for them… but it’s really difficult to dissect that game, especially hearing from players after it. Can we try to get a 1 seed for once? Does Hopkins help with that? Are the Bills physically/mentally dead going into a Divisional Round CIN game after playing Miami in the WC if we have the 1 seed? Nope… we’d have a bye to heal up and then we’d be playing Jax, not Cin. Who knows how that plays out if we get past Jax and face KC, at home, with Hyde and Jones healthy and back on the field. We matched up much better with KC than CIN.

The cap going up (a lot) and the Bills being able to restructure Allen multiple times are not assumptions.. It will, and they will. If one, or both, don’t happen … it means the league is in trouble (not just us) and something really unexpected happened with Allen. KC is operating based on the cap going up and Mahomes contract being used as a bank. CIN is operating based on the cap going up and will soon have the highest paid QB in the league, along with one or two of the highest paid WR’s. Jets are adding 20M dead cap hits on void years in ‘25 and ‘26 to get, hopefully, two contending years from Rodgers … at which point they will have to figure out QB and pay a lot of good players. Miami is leveraging themselves like there is no tomorrow and then they have to pay Tua or reset at QB. Not just us playing this game … it’s all of our peer contenders.

Not gonna lie .. I loathe conversations about “Dorsey may want this or that”…. Cool… so what happens if our offense is elite this year and Dorsey gets a HC job? Now we have Knox and a RD1 TE because our former OC wanted that. Not the worst thing in the world, but now our new OC comes into a situation where we’ve clearly gone heavy on TE investment.

You’re assuming we do things like void years etc., I’m not. I never once said that. If we do that, yes, it could signify Davis isn’t in long term plans. Maybe we trade him and draft a WR. If they don’t, and let’s say AZ eats some cap or we trade Oliver to offset cap this year, then yes… we can also structure a Davis contract if we want. Nevermind the cap likely exploding … which is why a team like the Jets is comfortable adding 20-30M dead cap void years to a Rodgers contract. They’ll also restructure Allen again at some point.

Here’s the thing on these types of players. If the Bills had high grades on guys like Oliver and Basham, so did other scouts/GM’s. You obviously aren’t getting great trade value for them after they’ve been meh during multiple years of their rookie contracts, but if you’re simply looking to unload the cap hit/player for a Day 3 pick … lots of GM’s are willing to throw you a Day 3 to see if a guy they liked a few years ago is a better fit in their scheme or with their coaches.

Easy. Let’s say Bills lock down Hopkins, guaranteed, for 2 years. Davis on his rookie contract this year. You structure a low cap hit for year one of his extension. Then heavier cap hits as Hopkins comes off the books.

Could still draft a WR early. All depends on their long term view of Davis. Bills/Harty both made mention of him being WR4. Inside/Outside guy who rotates in. Diggs is WR1. Sherfield is WR6. That leaves WR2, WR3 and WR5 however they decide to settle those positions.

I think I’d agree. Unless it’s some multi-player massive trade, and even then I’d have to see what we’re looking at. A) I think Davis is still in the Bills long term plans regardless of a Hopkins trade B) If he’s not, I’d rather shop Davis on his own.. as I think he has some legitimate trade value.
