Van Demark, a "Model" Fit for the Bills OL?
SCBills replied to BuffaloBillyG's topic in The Stadium Wall
Chiefs to Mahomes: "We've dropped a bag on another Tackle for you" Bengals to Burrow: "We've snagged Orlando Brown to protect you" Bills to Allen: "Can we interest you in a baby model?" In all seriousness, he does seem like a worthwhile developmental Tackle to keep on the 53, likely taking the place of Doyle. Which is fine, as long as Beane works some magic and makes a move for a legit swing tackle before the season starts.- 76 replies

All-Pro DT Chris Jones not at Chiefs Mandatory Minicamp
SCBills replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall
We all focus on our cap issues, and the Chiefs are situated better than pretty much anyone else (Bills, Bengals, Jets, Dolphins) but they do have the (good) ramifications of drafting well coming up on the horizon... A lot of good players like Humphrey and Smith on their OL will be needing new deals soon.. and likely won't be cheap. -

Maybe, but they also aren't the Buffalo Bills.. They don't feel the need to pay a bunch of guys on Defense. He's THE guy. -
6/7 Rd Pick or player swap for a fringe starter/quality backup level player
-
Solid players, especially at OT, aren't going to be available for us via waivers - and teams don't just cut quality OL. If I were Beane, I'd be making Shakir, Boogie (or) Epenesa available for player swaps. In terms of creating cap space, I'd do the least we can do to get cap compliant with some wiggle room. Outside of Jones/Johnson, I don't have much of an appetite to restructure anyone else given our future cap reality relative to their play on the field (White/Dawkins).

Chiefs have 3 players that the entire team plays off of.. Mahomes Kelce Jones This isn't like them trading away Tyreek Hill. And I think they will get a deal done with Chris Jones, but I think that because - unless it becomes toxic - Chiefs Front Office also understands trading Jones is not the same as trading Hill. -
Josh Allen is the best weapon in the NFL and he’s not protected.
SCBills replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall
McGovern isn't in the same category as those other guys. I think the interior is pretty strong with Morse, a mid-tier FA with upside, RD2 pick and strong depth. Not drafting Dawand Jones was maddening on Draft Night, and even more-so now... If Bills fans had their way, our IOL would be led by Creed Humphrey and Trey Smith, with Dawand Jones as RT competition. No clue why the staff seems to take so long to reach the conclusions fanbase and media have years earlier. We finally fix the IOL, only to be dependent upon a wild card in Spencer Brown with zero depth behind him. At some point Allen will get fed up. Especially when he sees what the Bengals & Chiefs do for his peer elite QB's. -

I agree, for the most part, but wouldn't say they've made minimal investment.. They just don't seem to pay guys on that side of the ball. That Defense has investment with Day 1/Day 2 picks in guys like Karlaftis, Anudike-Uzomah, Bolton, Chenal, McDuffie etc., but it all plays off Chris Jones in the middle of that DL. -

Completely agree. It's why we went out and signed Von. We were desperately searching for that elite level difference maker on Defense. Chris Jones has been that for KC.. and they 100% lose to the Bengals in the AFC CG without him. As good as Mahomes/Kelce are, they can't do it alone, and watching that game made it abundantly clear that Chris Jones was the difference between winning and losing. I'd even argue that an elite DT is worth more than an elite EDGE. Guys like Chris Jones and Aaron Donald completely destroy and/or occupy the middle of an OL, thus allowing everyone else to play off of them. -
Only the best people..

For whatever reasons they have, Buffalo clearly isn't worried about the MLB position like we are. If they were, I have to think a stronger move is available for a non-premium position than signing a USFL guy. Maybe it's a scheme thing, a role thing.. maybe we watch MNF in a few weeks and realize why they don't seem as panicked as the fanbase. It's not like OT, where we can just trade for someone or pick someone up off waivers and immediately have them active on Gameday as Spencer Brown's backup.. They don't even trust Dorian Williams to go out there yet.. they're not going to trust someone off the street or via trade if they don't do it asap. We're only a few weeks away and apparently MLB in our Defense is more complex than quantum physics.

Pretty interesting breakdown. Listened to it earlier. It does sound like the OL issues were a lot more nuanced, and not as bad, as initially thought. I also think putting Josh out there in games like this is almost dangerous at this point.. case and point, the bizarre play where he ran forward, had a lane to pick up yards, then ran back behind the LOS, changed direction, only to get sacked.. He's clearly thinking too much, to avoid preseason hits, which resulted in a play where he puts himself in a myriad of awkward positions to get hit.... in order to avoid a hit.

If you need to feel better, watch this compilation of Mazi Smith, the guy Dallas took when we jumped them for Kincaid. Im sure he’ll get better, but yikes… -
Seems to be a common theme amongst those digging into the tape.

Confirmation bias. Even with some podcasters I like, you saw this come out before they watched any tape. One glaringly bad rep that was just awful. OT equivalent of being posterized and took away a huge play, thus drawing more attention to it. A play we should be applauding, got flagged (wrongly), which led to even more criticism as we couldn’t even run a play with flags raining down.

Flip the colors and this isn’t just a local media story.

Cap Dollars - Von Miller or FA OL improvement
SCBills replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall
I mean.. what did you see from him before his injury that makes you think his best years are behind him? At least “behind him” in the sense you seem to be implying. He was on his way to being one of the top pass rushers in the league prior to that. Same as he’s always been. Is he prime Bosa or Parsons right now? No.. but he’s in that next tier. At least, was.. we’ll see how he returns. -
We should be using the Brown pancake block as an example of how good he can be if he figures it out.. Instead it was incorrectly flagged and led to more confirmation bias. Not to say he isn’t a concern, but how that play was wrongly officiated unfairly dug in perceptions of his play.

What are your top TWO takeaways from the Bills-Steelers game?
SCBills replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
AFCN may end up being the toughest division in the NFL, by far, if the Browns get anything from Watson.
