I'm less worried this season than last season. I think the Bills will be a surprise to the league - as opposed to last year, where we fell short of expectations. I think most are expecting Buffalo to take a step back. I think the 2023 team will be better, in just about every area. Some of my expectation is based on health - we lost too many key guys last year, and even some guys who played were struggling w/ an injury (Phillips, Poyer, Davis - even Brown because of the time he missed preseason). But I also like the players we've acquired so far, and see upgrades on the O line, at RB and WR. Damien Harris alone changes how the offense looks significantly. The best thing about that long-term is that our 3 division rivals have all made significant moves to try to take our crown - and if they fall short, their owners could be more likely to make even more drastic moves to bridge the gap. That can turn into a somewhat endless cycle, as Bills fans know.

The wheel turns for the Pats and their fans
Success replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall
The fans there who are under 40 are just in a different league. We're all homers in a way - we all convince ourselves of positive things about our team. But that group is literally delusional (not the figurative "delusional" people often use). It's entitlement, and a cautionary tale about what too much winning can do to fans that haven't known anything else. I'm enjoying everything that has happened in the past few years - and I'll enjoy it even more when Belichick retires or goes to another team. It is good for my soul to see the tables turn like this. But, of course - they're a Bruins town now. -
Wr Overload and what really needs to get done
Success replied to NastyNateSoldiers's topic in The Stadium Wall
The hated Patriots are the blueprint for me. They never invested a lot in the WR position, except one time - they had a top tier QB, and believed in protecting that QB and giving him more time in the pocket. Brady made plenty of middlin' receivers look great that way. We do NOT need to keep investing in WR's. Our current group is a really good one. I have seen so much talk on this board about how you have to have an elite #2 also. I wholeheartedly disagree w/ that. If the Bills can build a top 5 O-line, the rest takes care of itself. Allen can do the same thing Brady did - make guys like Edelman, who we likely would barely have heard of if he was on some other teams, a star. -
It wouldn't shock me if we didn't pick a WR at all. And I don't think that would a bad thing. Improving the line should be the top priority. Allen will make all of the guys we have stars if he has more time.

Patriots fans are in full cope mode. At least we still have the best QB in the division, and a great team. The Patriots should now finish in last place, barring crazy circumstances.
-
Bills have more of an uphill climb to defend the division crown - but it's not as brutal as it looks. We're still the best team in the east, and we still have the best QB.

It's good to have some positivity on here.

Pre-Draft: Bills already much better than last year
Success replied to khlax3's topic in The Stadium Wall
Damien Harris is a much different RB than any we've had in recent years. He just has to stay healthy. Cook complements him perfectly, imo. An improved line and a real running game could make this offense the best we've seen in the JA era. -
The Allen-Diggs Relationship in Decline?

It's hard to see any red flags in "I love the guy." -
Josh Britt unverified Breakup rumour

I know there is a list of great QB's who hadn't won a title - but I have a very hard time imagining Allen retiring without at least one. Gotta enjoy every second that he's a Bill. -
Florio raises an excellent question:

I'd disagree. Circumstances are different every year. We weren't the team in January that we were in September. We need to stay just a bit healthier, and hopefully not have as much drama as we had late in the season in '22. We can beat anyone w/ the current team, whether regular season or playoffs. -

It's like some don't understand the basics of math. What did anyone expect? We had no cap space. Allen & others had to restructure just to be able to retain good players we already have. And it's been a solid FA period, even with that. A good starting guard, 2 good receivers who should get solid playing time, and a running back who everyone here is going to love if he can stay healthy. It makes no sense how anyone thinks we could have had a splashy FA period. Our signings have exceeded my expectations. -
Hockey is 4th place for me - but I like the Rangers.

There is a lot more to KC's 2 SB's than Mahomes. I'd argue that both Mahomes & Allen have been as good in the playoffs, and also had as much struggle at times. But Reid's coaching and the balanced composition of their team has made a very big difference. And I think McD is good. But he's not as good as Reid, and the Bills team, for the most part, has been very top heavy w/ Allen, Diggs and just a few others. KC has been deeper and better.

My 1st reaction was definitely "huh?" But, as much as I think Harris can be a short yardage back, that's not necessarily his specialty. To have someone for the goal-line and 3rd & 1 (and 4th & 1) would round out that unit well. The Bills are determined to build a real running game. I can't really object to that. Cincy was more physical than the Bills were - there are a few aspects to that, but getting a more physical & reliable run game makes things a lot more equal on that front.

I remember reading that "MMMBop" is actually pretty dark in terms of the lyrics, which is interesting because it's the most upbeat music & melody in history. Kind of about how very little in our life really stands the test of time, and before you know it, it's all over.

Nah; I don't think the bolded is going to happen. Changing DC was the biggest move we could make. The players, for the most part, are not the issue. We have a lot of talent on our defense.

I just had a fairly heated back & forth w/ an opposing fan about Gronk. I really still can't get over the dirty hit on Tre all those years ago. And it has almost nothing to do w/ him being a Patriot & all that. That hit made me legit sick to my stomach. He could have really hurt Tre, and as it is, I think he did cause a concussion (if my memory is right on that). It was the 4th quarter, they were up by 3 scores, and he lost it because White grabbed his jersey a couple of times in coverage. It was just crazy 'roid rage kind of stuff. Now, his national image is the "goofy frat guy," and he's in so many commercials playing that role. I just smh every time I see him. It's one of the dirtiest plays I have seen in the sport. Do you feel that way (just asking anyone), or am I being too tough on him for that?

Good! And I would have said that if he signed w/ us, also.

There is actually no basis for that conclusion at this point in time.

Good perspective on how good we were last year
Success replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'd agree. But that Miami game was kind of an oddball. We did go up 17-0 and were rolling, but it's a game were we were almost undone by fairly uncharacteristic turnovers. Those are part of the game - but I hardly felt like Miami matched us in effort or overall play. They got some good breaks & took advantage of them. -
Beane likes to zag when the media zigs. So who knows. I'm up for anything. I trust Beane - his drafting has been solid, if not spectacular. I keep thinking LB in the 1st, though. We lost Edmunds, have marginal players who MAY pan out at MLB on the roster, and the 1st round is a place where you can get an impact player at that position.

I believe in the multiverse, and that every possibility exists in some alternate universe. But I don't think there is a universe where this is happening.
