Ben Solak (The Ringer) Analysis of Josh's Decisions this Year
Matt_In_NH replied to JohnRVA's topic in The Stadium Wall
I am no NFL coach (obvisouly) but I am sure this is part of the solution. The NFL game is not just go out and do what you do best all the time, its a chess match where you have to figure out what the defense is trying to do and counter that while also doing what you do best. Eventually your plays will be there. Everyone thinks this stuff is black and white...its all conservative or all high risk Josh....there is a middle ground that is actually what they need to find and what I believe they are searching for but so far it has not happened. I believe Josh can have more yards and more TD's and less turnovers that he has typically if they figure out the right formula. Right now, I think you have to look at Dorsey for the answers. -
ok, I agree to an extent. They will have to make some additional moves to sign a guy like Harty or Connor McDermott... I actually think at most you will get one guy with a decent AAV and we will likely see 2-4 comp picks for next year as a result. The draft is going to become super important.

I find the lack of offensive production baffling. People are hyper focused on Dorsey and Davis. I don't think the #2 receiver is a logical explanation. Sure Tee Higgins is an upgrade but I dont think they would change much with him over Davis. There is plenty of success throwing to Kincaid and Shakir and Diggs. Its not like there is no one to throw to. One factor is how defenses are playing guys like Allen and Mahomes (also not having his typical year by the way). The offenses have to find ways to counter what the defense is doing....that is on Dorsey. However the one place people put their blinders on with is the play of Josh Allen....it's like he can do no wrong, when its not working it has to be everyone else's fault. Yet he is the single most critical person who determines the success of the offense. Joe Marino has shown clearly how he turns down easy throws at times. Josh is throwing easier passes, completing a higher percentage of passes and actually throwing the ball away more than he has in the past yet his interception rate is the highest it has been since his rookie year. That is one thing I thought would come down as he throws for less air yards and takes throw aways.

Agreed, people are very focused on the 24 points. This defense has one turnover in the last 5 games. They cannot get off the field. The offense also disappeared. So the problems are on both sides of the ball. The only thing we can say is on defense, there is sort of an explanation...injuries. Still, the pass rush has disappeared and there is a lot of bad tackling.

What do you mean by another its not like they have been doing this? I think the OP has some likely moves but that barely gets the Bills under the cap and there will be lots of holes to fill. The numbers work but who are the safeties? Who are the DT's? #2, #4, #5 WR?

Is 10 Wins enough to make the playoffs? What is the path to 10 wins?
Matt_In_NH replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
10-7 could go either way, probably more likely in than out. -
Throw to Davis more throw to Kincaid more throw to sherfield more throw to Harty more make sure Diggs get his share throw to rbs more. There is only one ball

One play and you can make a blanket generalization? You can’t watch the all 22 and find the open guy and assume the qb is dumb or can’t read a defense or does not want to throw to a guy. His eyes have to get to the open guy in the window he would be open. There are no qbs ever who always see the open receiver. This play seemed like a predetermined shot play.

Agree, nonsense....

Save it for after the offseason. Cheer for the team to win.

We are now the worst defense in the league
Matt_In_NH replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
I know the points against have not been there but the defense sucking is definitely something you feel watching the games. Last night they only gave up 24 but the Bengals always had drives that had several first downs. Right down to the last meaningful 3-2 where Von dove to air. Teams are converting 3rd downs. The blitzing is not getting home, it is hurting this team. -
You a turnover rate of more than 1 per game acceptable, really? I mean there are guys with higher INT rates but if he throws an INT per game that would not be too good, considering some guys get be way down in the single digits. Josh has the highest INT rate since his rookie year this season.
-
Two new guards which have made a marked improvement on the OL, Kincaid, the WR depth in theory is better this year than last...at least on paper. Maybe the WR's are a wash...I expected more out of Harty and Sherfield. The Bills outspend the cap most than almost any other team, you cannot say they have not given him help and be serious. You really think if you replace Gabe with Tee Higgins, the whole thing changes?
-
And lack of turnovers on defense since the Jags game.

Officially out of the playoffs as of now
Matt_In_NH replied to Coldfronts's topic in The Stadium Wall
You save negative money.....he is staying. And long term that is probably fine, he s still just 11 months out from an ACL, he is not back to where he needs to be. -
The answer is NOT new players....football is chess as much as it is physicality....they have the talent to win.

If Josh went on IR do the Bills win a game?
Matt_In_NH replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
Any of them. Do you watch the NFL other than the Bills? -
The Bills are done, stick a fork in them
Matt_In_NH replied to HopefulFuture's topic in The Stadium Wall
Can we put all these Nancy's in one forum somewhere....to fight about how bad the Bills are and are always going to be? They can panic, call everyone names and talk about who should be fired immediatly. -

Yes, stop being a clown. -
Considering the rate he does turn it over, this cannot be it.

Pregame the show talked about how burrow eats zone up. That proved to be true for sure.
