  1. I have a bad case of the Sunday Night Blues tonight and was in a sentimental mood. So I glanced at Jean Paul Muller's channel on YouTube if there were any old Bills games worth scrolling through. His Youtube channel is easily the best for Bills games from the 1980s to 2000s. That's when I came across this one below. Jets vs Bills from 1990. No pun intended I figured just based on the year 1990 the Bills would have won this game something like 51-3. But it's a very good underrated one. Enough for me to want to start a thread on it. While I don't claim to be an official Buffalo Bills games guru I thought I had heard of or read about most exciting nail biter games since the late 1980s. This one I dont recall hearing or reading about anywhere. Some Jim Kelly magic in the last 2 minutes
  2. @SinceThe70s The 90s is when I started following baseball so I always think of Franco as Mr Met. For better or worse But his best years were really with the Reds. He probably deserves to be in their Hall Of Fame.
  3. @Gugny @ExWNYer Admittedly Rick having the same last name of one of my big teenage crushes and a singer I always liked made me zone in on him more. Lol But this reliever I still remember well. He was real good as well. In fact so much so when I see his son play I still always recall
  4. Well I mean Gooden was good from like 1984-1991 but after that he wasn't really the same pitcher and well he had all his other troubles. Ron Darling had good years with the Mets as well. From 1984 to 1989 but he kinda leveled off after that. Also, he was never really strong in big games. 1986 Game 7 against the Red Sox, 1988 game 7 against the Dodgers. Rick seemed to have a pretty steady decent career after he left the Mets. I mean not bad at all for a guy that seemed more the quiet afterthought of the 86-88 rotation
  5. @Gugny @SinceThe70s @ExWNYer A completely pass lunch hour/offseason post. I watched Burlesque. I’ve always had a thing for Christina Aguilera. Then I’m thinking didn’t the Mets have a pitcher with that same last name? So yeah it refreshed my memory Rick Aguilera was the one that almost lost Game 6 against Boston. But then I looked at his post Mets career and he actually did pretty well. Won a World Series with the Twins and was an all star closer. While the Mets didn’t trade Nolan Ryan by letting him go, I’d say that was one of the more underrated bad trades of the organization. Him for Viola. Outside of Cone, I’d actually say he had the best career of any of the 80s Mets pitchers. Thoughts?
  6. Even before that brief period they had some success there was a group I think called Rutgers 900 dedicated to trying to get Rutgers out of the Big East to focus more on academics. Their point being their real competition lied with the likes of Princeton, Lafayette, Penn, etc.... I mean I am not an academic, will and can never be an academic, and think that professor in that article I posted lives exclusively in his ivory tower. Yet from me a common humble man's perspective is it makes no sense what Rutgers top historically push their football program into something it isn't. There's might be worse programs but I have a feeling they dont have the shady undertones to them
  7. I'll start of by writing I went too school there and didn't have the best experience. So perhaps there's some sour grapes. The school initially actually won the first college football game ever against Princeton. And I think they won the 1st national championship as well. But since then it's been bad. The school decided to compete in the Big East at some point where they were more often than not overmatched in the 20th century. In 2001 there there was a big push to be competitive in the Big East. Greg Schiano got hired. He struggled his first few years. This article was written around the time I was starting there how Rutgers could never win https://vault.si.com/vault/2003/08/25/why-cant-rutgers-ever-win-rutgers-is-the-biggest-school-in-new-jersey-a-state-swarming-with-good-young-players-yet-over-the-last-decade-the-scarlet-knights-are-32-83-1-the-coach-says-things-are-turning-around-many-others-on-cam And after a few years Greg and Rutgers had some success. 2006 was a good year for the school. The team finished in the top 10 in the country that year. They still did not win the Big East that year though. Actually they never won The Big East. And they still have like a 17 game plus losing streak versus West Virginia. There were a few bowl games after that but in insignificant ones. And now all of a sudden the big push to join the Big 10 were the team is the laughing stock of the league. To make matters imo worse they are not even likeable and I dont want to root for them. This is why. To join the Big 10 they are now $250 million dollars in debt. https://www.northjersey.com/story/news/watchdog/2022/07/07/rutgers-athletics-spends-big-builds-debt-big-ten-conference/65367819007/ Also some other nice little scandals along the way with players running up Doordash fees https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sportsnews/article-11127653/Rutgers-football-players-ordered-450-000-DoorDash-deliveries-university-paid-for.html So as I said I come at this with a bias of despising what the University is all about. But I'm thinking most here are neutral when it comes to Rutgers so I'll throw out the question if they are the worst division 1 football program ever
  8. While I agree with most that the cutting down the season is my biggest pet peeve. The season is just to damn long After the Mets lost I just with every fiber of my being cared less after that point. And this is not a jaded Mets fan talking…. the 2001 World Series Yankees/Diamondbacks was my favorite one to watch in my lifetime
  9. I was watching an old Mets/Yankees game from 2003 and I was surprised too learn Todd Zeile was a Yankee at one point. I have no memory of that at all. I associate him more as a Met as he does some SNY broadcasts. But I think sports like life time will usually point somewhere to where they will naturally be even if they swift off the curve. Ryan Fitzpatrick I definitely think of as a Buffalo Bill. Even though he was a Dolphin and Jet. And that one year with the Texans he I'm paraphrasing in the huddle said he wanted nothing more badly in his life to beat Buffalo. Ditto for Rex Ryan. I defiantly think of him more as a NY Jet. even though the time he beat the Jets as a Bill coach that night game in 2015 he was celebrating like a hyena on the sidelines.
  10. Your post made me do some research why he didnt leave a good taste in my mouth. I think my main issue was he got a 4 year contract but really only produced for 1.5 years of it. Plus in 2009 he went to the Phillies in a complete attempt to get a ring that year. I mean not my least favorite Met but I wasn't a fan. Btw I looked him up on this site https://ultimatemets.com/profile.php?PlayerCode=0750&tabno=7 If you're not familiar with or hadn't heard of it it's pretty cool. It gives fan memories of all the Mets and all the games. It's not really as active as it used to be but still a good source of info. I've posted a few times there under Dan the Man. @SinceThe70s @ExWNYer I'll give a shout as well for that Mets database site if you hadnt heard of it
  11. It’s cool as well to read Reds fans that still think fondly on Johnny. Yeah I agree Glavine and Beltran don’t leave a good taste in my mouth. I’d say ditto for Pedro Martinez. He helped bring the franchise back to credibility but overstayed his welcome if I remember right. Max Scherzer against San Diego still bothers me. For that kind of money that kind of effort. But imo Josh Allen as well gets coddled a bit much by this fanbase. Though that AIDS comment was funny you mentioned 😊
  12. The meat of that I agree with. Much as I appreciate a 2000 Ravens like defense it seems kind of dated in a way today. You can’t win in todays NFL as a defensive minded coach. Or at the very least a real strong OC. But yeah for sure Bills have their work cut out on offense
  13. @SinceThe70s@ExWNYer Speaking of Mets commercials this one is a real blast from the past! Johnnys sort of a guy I think a little more fondly on with time. Had a solid run with the Mets. But I was ready to see him go at the end there. I recall he was in his 40s and clubhouse politics came up. But as I said today I think more fondly Al Leiter on the other hand just not a fan. He had some great gutty performances but overstayed his welcome. Still not really a fan of his personality today. idk why but 90s/early 00 Met teams I think of those two
  14. This thread is like playing the game telephone. Should be interesting to see where conversations wind up from where they started 😆
  15. Take a sh1t or get off the potty
  16. I’ll take a wild wild guess in that since this thread is from 2015, #17 will be pretty prevalent since 🤣. I think he was unheard of by most Bills fans back then
  17. For me it was a Mets game in September 2003. My grandmother was dying in a nearby Flushing hospital. They only let so many visitors in the facility at once so my dad and I went to a Met game that day. Despite being just 5 minutes away we didn’t get in the stadium until the 3rd inning because of US Open tennis traffic. The game was horrible on its own. It was against the Phillies and the Mets didn’t get a hit until the 7th inning. Just a lifeless Art Howe Mets team effort. They lost like 5-1. What made it even worse was Jose Reyes injured himself on the last play of the game. At that time he was the only reason to watch the games for future hope. Yeah an awful game and an awful time in my life. My grandmother passed not that much later and I practically failed out of college that semester. End sob story
  18. Since you still watch the games how is the broadcast? Walt Frazier and John Andariese back in the day were good together
  19. I always did want to sit in one of the first 20 rows back from the court for a pro game. I think it was 2014 but since the Sixers were dead last that year I was able to buy some seats of the secondary market for considerably cheap. Was actually kinda cool. Ticket costs today I’d never have an interest any more. Will Smith was actually there that night for 1/2 the game. Front row of course But yeah Allen Iverson was probably the last player I was a fan of
  20. He had a role in the film Night Shift I recall with Michael Keaton and Henry Winkler. Pretty good movie. I think him and Winkler are cousins. It’s one of my favorite songs and he was in the music video. The vacation home got double booked
  21. Obviously the Sabres would be popular on this site. But I see threads here as well that discuss the Yankees, Mets, baseball in general, and college hoops. Not so much for the NBA though. In the 90s I was a big basketball fan, 2000-2010 I wasn’t a fan but still knew what was going on, since then for the most part I could care less. I was happy when the Cavs won in 2016 but that’s about it. Among many reasons the game revolving around the 3 point shot is kind of a turnoff to me. I would add I just saw what the Phoenix Suns jerseys look like these days…. they are ugly. The Valley??
  22. This reminded me of one of the few times in high school I was in the same room with Jay Williams so to speak. I got knocked out 1 week with the flu in high school and missed some of my midterm exams. So with a doctors note I was able to get some of my exams re-taken in the library. So who else is there but Jay this one day doing the same thing . I just wonder now how he was able to get out of his Chemistry exam so to speak lol. In retrospect it was kind of funny seeing him make a sign of the cross before he took his exams. From the little I saw of him he's not much different than how he is today on TV: very smiley and extroverted. A topic for another thread but I dont think the core of people's personalities change all that much from when they are younger. Ever see this movie?
  23. Even me someone who lives 400 miles away from Orchard Park recognized Mark's name. It seems he always used to pop up in stories talking about Buffalo Bills fan behavior at and or around the Stadium 😂 I don't remember Justin. Seems he had a very fascinating short life. You might have just gave me something to watch some night this week that Concussion movie
