Is Gabe Davis a trade candidate?
transplantbillsfan replied to transplantbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
That's the point of trading him. The future. You don't pay Robin. If trading him gives us a 3rd or 4th, that's trade up cash in hand... and we all know Beane loves trading up. We just paid Harty money like he's going to be a decent contributor. Sherfield by all reports--including Josh Allen--is excelling at WR. We've all watched Shakir flash. We just drafted a TE who's essentially going to substitute for a WR most of the time. We (for whatever reason) just signed a former 2nd round pick from 2019 to our roster at WR. And Gabe has 1 year left on his contract but also has value. I will repeat that I don’t think we do trade him, but given all of the above, how bad would it really be to do it, especially if it helps net you a WR opposite Diggs through 2027 under a rookie contract even better than Davis? -
I don't think we trade him, but recent events make me wonder. By all reports sounds like Sherfield and Harty are flashing in camp. With Kincaid and Knox we're going to run more 12 personnel than at any point during the Allen era, making WRs more expendable. And then we sign a recent 2nd round WR in Andy Isabella. I realize he's been a bust thus far, but why would Beane bother bringing him in if he thought our WR corps was set? And that's where the guesswork comes into play... I'm sure most view it as Shakir insurance based on his reportedly poor start to camp. I think that'd be financially kinda silly considering Shakir showed some potential in actual NFL games and he's one of only 2 or 3 (if Shorter makes the team) WRs still under contract after 2023. Gabe Davis will get a contract next season likely (as of this moment at least) in the $10-$15 million range, and I think that's actually below (maybe well below) what he'll actually get. We all know Buffalo’s CAP situation and what we're already gonna be paying Diggs since there's no out on his contract for 3 or 4 years. $40+ million (conservatively) a year to 2 WRs? And then there's this from the first few TC practices from Joe B's day 3 report at The Athletic: Davis targeted minimally the last two practices Following the Bills’ second day of practice, starting receiver Gabe Davis was quite candid about some of his physical and mental struggles during the 2022 season, stemming from an early-year high ankle sprain that wound up defining his output. He didn’t take the leap many were hoping for, but he remains very well thought of throughout the building. There’s no doubt Davis looks a lot smoother and more explosive on his routes than from when he was injured, but it hasn’t translated to much production through the early portion of camp. Of those 37 Allen pass attempts over the last two practices, Davis was only targeted in team drills twice. Both targets occurred on Friday, and to Davis’ credit, he brought in both for a shorter reception. Over the same span, Diggs (10), Trent Sherfield (6), Knox (5) and Kincaid (3) were all targeted more often by Allen. It could just be the start of camp and a feeling out process with Allen and Davis, or perhaps it’s a continuation of the lower target share Davis accrued during 2022. Either way, all eyes will be on the now-healthy Davis in a contract year. I know this... we already have a lot of draft capital next year and Beane loves trading up. What do you think Gabe fetches? A 3rd? A 4th? I think we could at least get a 4th for him, which is where he was drafted. Then Big Baller Beane uses all those draft picks to get our next #1 in waiting in next year's draft... Marvin Harrison Jr. anyone????

Interesting thread. Think I saw the news piece. They even claimed it was "mostly Millenials." I was born in 81 and my wife was born in 82, so by some definitions we're Millenials even though neither of us have the characteristics. We've been married 13 years but together for 18 years. We lived and slept in the same bed all 5 years before we got married. I snore and my wife is a light sleeper. My snoring got worse over the years. I tried Breathe Right strips, anti-snoring mouth guards, throat and tongue exercises, and taping my mouth. They work sporadically and then at some point my wife ends up hitting me because I'm snoring again and I either go to sleep and get hit again and eventually end up on the couch or I lie awake because I don't want to snore. Eventually I got Covid in May of 2022 and my wife slept in our spare room for a week. Then October 2022 I go visit my family in NY and come back and our cat (her baby) was diagnosed with Cancer and since Covid when I go on my annual trip we sleep in separate rooms anyway for a week. Well, that stuck. She wanted the time with our cat (she passed in March) and a month or so later we rescued 4 kittens that were a couple days old that she stayed in the room with to bottle feed. I will say this. I don't think I've ever slept better in our marriage. My wife maybe not so much because of all the cat and kitten issues, but I think this is pretty permanent. Don't know fully how I feel about it yet. There's a (what I generally feel is ridiculous) traditionalist in me that feels the need to adhere to societal norms. One would think I would have gotten over that with our choice not to have kids, but I pushed back with my wife fairly hard on sleeping in separate beds. Now I feel pretty good about it. However, I do think it means you need to make more of an effort as far as your marriage goes. In the end, every marriage is different. Even though I freely admit I don't always take my own advice, do what makes you and your wife happy and don't allow society to dictate that.

Huh? Haven't watched the show. I'm talking about how Mahomes sprinted from the EZ to Allen after throwing a GW TD to embrace him and congratulate him on a great game. That's all I needed to know how great a dude (aka human) Mahomes is. That was rare.

Hopkins released by Arizona (7/16: signed by Titans)
transplantbillsfan replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
I still think there's a decent chance we get Hopkins, but once Training Camp starts I think that chance drops off a cliff. Just based on how McBeane seems to be, my guess is they would want to make sure he's there for all of Camp to best foster chemistry with Josh and the team... namely Diggs. So... watching this with baited breath for another week or so -
Haven't watched the show and probably won't, but in terms of Mahomes, I think the dislike other than what he's done to Buffalo is about the people he surrounds himself with... wife and brother. Not exactly a choice on his part, but still. Personally, I'll always hate Mahomes the player, but what he did after the clock struck 00 after 13 seconds made me realize how good a dude he is.

Live in Hawaii and I surf. Grew up 5 minutes away from Lake Ontario in Webster, NY. Lived there til I was 23. Wish I tried SUPing while I was there. Now I look on those Sweepers with disdain...

Josh Allen is the most durable starting NFL QB
transplantbillsfan replied to transplantbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Did he miss games because of either of those? I get it. That Pats game injury he needed to not take that hit... yet that's exactly the play that makes him Him. The Concussion threat is the biggest worry to him running. And it's there. But UCL injuries are more severe injuries for a QB and both happened in the pocket. Look around the league and I think you find a ton of severe injuries to QBs happening in the pocket... including concussions... just ask Tua. Josh is human. But he's not a normal human. Not even as far as NFL players are concerned. I think he's already proven that. -
Josh Allen is the most durable starting NFL QB
transplantbillsfan replied to transplantbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
The only 2 injuries Josh has suffered in his career (both UCL injuries) have been from the pocket. I've said it a million times: minimize Josh's designed runs but tell him he has a bright green light to scramble any time he wants since that's when he's most effective. -
Josh Allen is the most durable starting NFL QB
transplantbillsfan posted a topic in The Stadium Wall
Ironic, isn't it? Allen is #1 in the NFL with 71 consecutive starts. Justin Herbert has 39, Trevor Lawrence and Pat Mahomes tied for 3rd at 34. Rodgers 4th with 25. Take what you will from this. I want Josh to protect himself more, but I think all the fear mongering "he's about to fall off a cliff the way Cam Newton did!" is wildly overblown by the likes of National pundits like Cowherd and folks on this board. I want Josh to be a little more careful while still letting Josh be Josh.- 83 replies

You seriously suck for bumping a horrible April Fool's joke. Is it scaring you right now that Buffalo has a significantly better roster than last year (when they were widely considered the best roster in the NFL) and are likely not to suffer from as many "hands-of-God" events emotionally affecting the team? In case you're wondering, I'm referring to 2 generational blizzards/snow storms and the unprecedented event of a teammates dying on the field. That's leaving out a ton of stuff that I can educate you with if you want... but why don't you just figure it out. This thread was stupid. Why did you bump it? Trepidation?

Loki is my favorite Marvel show. Can't wait til the new season comes out. Liked every Marvel show except for She-Hulk, actually. I never did watch that "What If" series, though. Seemed pretty pointless.

If your job was high paying and you're 58 and not 50 or 48 or 45, why do you need to make a few bucks? People who feel they need to make money in retirement confuse the hell outta me. If you want to keep busy, get a hobby or find volunteer work.

Best jobs for retirement??? Is this a joke??? Why????

Just went to see Guardians. Loved it!!! Not as good as #1 (is that even possible????) but soooo much better than #2. I also actually really liked the new Ant-man. Pretty much every other Marvel movie since Endgame has sucked., though. And honestly, even Endgame was bleh. I think Infinity War was the climax. Still interested to see where the franchise goes, though.

Damn. That's the part that concerns me. Not the breakup. -

Most important question of this breakup: Who kept the dog? -
Take this from a consistent Cowherd listener who actually likes to listen to him (and insert the "even though" after you read what I say): Colin Cowherd is stubborn as hell while marketing himself as open minded. Dude railed against Josh Allen on his show for all of 2018, 2019 and about the first 3 or 4 games of 2020. I remember us beating the Jets after game 1 with that fluke pick 6 off Beas and then Allen bringing us back for some late game heroics and Cowherd basically said Allen will always be an inaccurate QB who relies on his legs. Then the season progresses and Cowherd pivoted. He really just went on without acknowledging his disdain for Allen for the last few years. But you could tell he knew how Uber talented he was, so he jumped on the Buffalo train. And after 13 seconds, let's be honest, Allen and Mahomes looked equal. So Cowherd touted Buffalo all offseason. He even brought Josh on his show once. Then 2022 happened with all the trials and tribulations Buffalo faced--which were historic--and Cowherd largely doubled back. Keep in mind, now he's really more a massive critic of Buffalo as an organization than Josh. But that's also part of the point with Cowherd. He has ALWAYS been a huge critic of small market teams. Anyone who listens to him knows he's very 1 foot out on most of the small market NFL teams. Cowherd is a fun listen, yet despite his claim to be one of the most intelligent and open minded sports analysts out there, he's actually pretty myopic. And this discussion on his part proves it. Buffalo massively upgraded their OL this offseason. Saffold was terrible so addition by subtraction. Add McGovern, Edwards, Torrence, Shell who are ALL potential to likely starters in the NFL. And we spend money on one player already in house and one "big" FA we get for less than $10m??? Yeah, in this case I say Cowherd is an idiot. And pay attention to him this year. Watch the way he pivots if Buffalo succeeds.

Good stuff!!! Wondering if it's Beane's 2023 special...? 1 year $1.7 mil???
-
Are people nuts? Good deal for Buffalo. This contract doesn't even make Oliver top 10 AAV in terms of all DTs in the NFL. Basically, he got the contract for a slightly above average NFL DT. And that's about what he is with the potential to be better moving forward hopefully looking back on injuries as the excuse for 2022. And I'm sure very quickly other DTs will sign more lucrative deals making this look even better. Love the deal. Now extend Jones for another year or 2 and maybe Ford in season if he's playing as well as we hope. Anyone know yet how much CAP space this clears for this year? Extending Jones could clear more.

Hopkins released by Arizona (7/16: signed by Titans)
transplantbillsfan replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
How would anyone be against this? I actually like Gabe and think the injury really affected him last year and think he's due for a bounce back year... BUT... 3 years with Diggs & DHop along with Gabe's final "prove it" year plus Knox, Kincaid, & Cook for multiple years vs Praying for Gabe to finally be the #2 we all hoped for along with giving us a hometown discount ... choice seems obvious... Especially when you consider all the draft picks we still have next year. Who's to say we also don't just trade up for Marvin Harrison Jr. as Diggs and Nuke settle into their 30s?
