With all the talk of the draft, I'm curious where everyone thinks the strategy is for the team over the next season and beyond. Personally, I think McBeane realizes that they bought some serious time by breaking the curse last year. I'd definitely agree that even if they had a completely putrid season, their jobs would be stone cold locks for 2019. Last year the goal was to be competitive and start to figure out who they could build around and who they couldn't. Making the playoffs was an icing on the cake I don't think any of them saw coming. This year I think it's going to be a lot of the same, with the difference being that the entire focus is on finding out who can be their quarterback. If someone doesn't take the job by storm, I could see all 3 of them getting a crack at some point. I think these guys realize that assuming they find a guy with some promise by the end of the year, they'll still need 1-2 more years to assemble an Eagles/Patriots/Rams/Vikings/etc quantity/quality of talent that's capable of making a legitimate push. Given our projected $100M in cap next year, I'm completely ok with that. I think in order to compete at that level during the time frame in which it's likely to happen, we'll need to obtain some key pieces that are going to have to be tier 1 stars or at least very good players at TE, RB, DE, MLB and of course QB. The better the QB, the less pressure will exist on the rest of the team. I think inside their head playoffs are a "nice to have" this year, while finding that QB and a couple of those other pieces is the primary concern.

Good QB play makes WRs better. I'm fairly convinced you can get by with JAGs if you have a sound offense.

There wasn't nearly as much desperation last year. In 2017 there were a lot of teams settling in and comfortable with a rebuild. This year I can think of virtually 0 teams that applies to. Maybe the seahawks, but not really since they have a QB Maybe he could be tempted by Jerry Hughes as part of a package for #4, or even Lawson.

Especially when we could have stayed where we were last year and drafted Watson who was 10x the prospect. The absolutely must draft Barkley to take pressure off of Taylor and their defense.

If you build a Dome in Buffalo, what's the point of even having a team here? Move them to Florida and be done with it. Buffalo is built for grit.

Because he has nowhere to go but down. He's said to be the best prospect in decades. Why would you do anything to convince anyone otherwise? Rookie cap in place, no reason to mess around and potentially hurt yourself.

Make him complete 75% of his passes for 5000 yards?

Is there something worse than losing $15M guaranteed with the prospect of hundreds of millions for your family throughout your career. 99.99% of us will never be able to leave our family with anything like that. I know my life isn't worth that much security, and I do ok.

2nd most consecutive starts. I think Groy is a better center than this guy, so I have no idea why you'd waste him at guard. Groy looked as good as Wood when he had a shot.

Rudolph @ 22 and it looks alright. I highly doubt they take a RB this year given what they have on the roster.

1) Baker Mayfield: Plays to win. Incredibly accurate. Clutch. Leader. Athletic. Good arm. If he was 6'3", the Browns would be designing Super Bowl rings. NFL Comparison: Brees : Top 5 2) Josh Rosen: Prototypical NFL QB. Pulled his team out of big holes, but also put them in some. Big arm, pretty accurate, but takes a lot of chances. Not sure about his character. Reminds me of Kelly, but I fear he could be Cutler : Top 10 3) Mason Rudolph: Huge kid. Pro-ready toolset. Accurate. Clutch. Leader. Resilient. Doesn't have the biggest arm, but improved mechanics could fix that. Top 20 4) Sam Darnold: One year wonder. Only played 2 years and regressed badly in his second year. I feel like he plays down to the level of his competition. He could be great, but I think it's far from a lock. He's also a USC QB, so I want no part of that : Top 20 5) Lamar Jackson: Elite athlete. Accuracy is a major problem. Runs for about 50% of what he throws for. I think this is Tyrod Taylor in a bigger body. I don't see how any team could consider him an early first round prospect. He isn't anywhere NEAR the prospect Watson was. : 4th Round 6) Josh Allen: I just don't get it. He looks like a QB, but to me that's where the similarities end. Horrendous accuracy and a massive arm. Hardly ever played against any legitimate teams, and the lone impressive win was against Boise his first year. He's the next Ricky Vaughan of the NFL. If he's as successful as Jeff George without sitting on the bench for a couple of years, I'll be floored. : 4th round

The line actually graded out well. Our one-dimensional offense did them a massive disservice. losing Taylor should be addition by subtraction for our offensive production.

Newhouse is a turnstyle. Don't know much about Bodine, but Bengals fans are happy he's gone.

People in NFL circles have been talking to us about "dual-threat" for decades, yet how many of them amounted to anything? Steve young is probably the best example in modern history, and won a single Super Bowl against a San Diego team that was one of the all-time worst to make it to the show. For the electrifying player Cunningham was, it never translated into postseason success. Vick never won a thing. If Cam ever wins anything it won't be by using his legs. I want my QB to be about as athletic as Aaron Rodgers. I'd MUCH rather have a guy that sidesteps a rush like Rogers, Ben, Brady than a guy who takes off running like Taylor and Jackson at the first hint of pressure. It's a recipe for knee injuries, fumbles, and an inability to make the big play with your arm and brain.

I just don't get where people are putting Jackson as a first round pick. Guys like him have traditionally gone in the 3rd or 4th rounds, and many of those guys had a lot more production. What exactly are you pointing to to say that he's a better prospect than Carr or Cousins? How is he even that much better of a prospect than Brett Hundley was? Before the draft Zac Dysert and was talked about as possibly being a top option. A team could reach on Jackson, but he isn't ready to lead an NFL team right now, and by the time he is, his athleticism might already be starting to decline. The kid looks like a 3-rd- 4th round prospect given the production of players that came before him. If the best you can do is complete 56% of passes against bottom-tier competition, what are you going to do against NFL defenses?

The only thing I can knock him for is not having a rocket for an arm. He still ahs a pro arm and can sling it down the field. He has size, poise in the pocket, intelligence, the clutch factor, accuracy, and he doesn't get rattled against blitzes. With a guy as big as him, you could probably teach him to improve his power another 30% with mechanics. I think Mayfield is the clear #1 with Rudloph/Rosen being the tossup. Rosen more pro ready, but Rudolph having Size and intangibles that Rosen doesn't.

Did you not watch him battle Baker Mayfield? He threw the entire team on his back and carried them against their will in a game they had no business being in.

27 TDs with a 56% completion percentage against bottom-tier D1 & D2 schools doesn't impress me at all. Sorry. he's a fantastic athlete that has 1 year of playing in anything that could resemble a pro offense. If he ever becomes good, it's going to take the kind of years the Bills don't have. Good candidate for the Packers/Saints/Panthers, etc. in the 3rd-4th round.
