Was the Bills/Chiefs Game decided in Week 18?
Doc Brown replied to SCBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
The importance of the one seed became even more pronounced when they added that seventh team to the playoffs. We would've gotten a bye in three of the last four seasons if they didn't add a team which would've been huge. We're going to need some injury luck next year to get the one seed. It will be an uphill climb and we pry won't make it if we don't. No more London games. -
There’s no flaw in that logic unless he was got blown out again like we did against the Bengals. Both KC divisional games came down to one or two plays in a team of comparable skill. Football isn’t a severn game series so the margin of error is so slim that something as simple as a wind gust can completely change a narrative and careers. It’s real easy to become impatient in football because of that single elimination system and thinking waiving a magic wand for a better coach to get us over the hump is wishful thinking. As long as we keep fielding a top team that hosts divisional games the law of averages will eventually swing our way. I think you didn’t even have us finishing above .500 when we were 6-6 despite the three previous seasons where we’ve won out with at least five straight. Maybe have some faith in a coach who’s gotten us there every year who will work to get better in those high pressure tight games.

That's true but they don't want Trump either. It's a rematch hardly anybody wants but is going to get.

Most Americans don't want Biden or Trump so this isn't surprising. Anybody competent under 65 is an appealing alternative at this point regardless of party.

Class act and the heart and sole of the defense over the last seven ears. He deserves Wall of Fame consideration. I wonder if keeping Poyer on the current deal is more likely now as I'd hate to lose both of them.

Yeah it was. Even if he hits that low percentage throw you still give Mahomes the ball back down 4 with 1:50 left and two timeouts. Mahomes was carving up our defense all night so you don't want to give him the ball back with much time. What really is frustrating is you had the perfect play call to hit Diggs underneath which probably results in a first down. You then have the ball inside their 20 with two time outs left and the clock is ticking. They pry burn a timeout there so they only have one left. First and 10 in the Red Zone with about 1:45 left and the Chiefs only having one timeout. The playbook is wide open and they have the dual threat of Allen and Cook in the run game. I like our chances to score a touchdown under 30 seconds and at worst a chip shot FG with little time left to send it to OT. What's even worse is they had the whole two minute warning to discuss it. Instead you have two heaves to the End Zone that stops the clock, preserves KC's two timeouts so even if you make the field goal all they need is three on the next drive, and have to rely on an unreliable kicker from 44 yards out.

That's the case for keeping McDermott in a nutshell. You can't win the Super Bowl if you don't punch your playoff lottery ticket.

I yell "watch the fake" every time the other team punts. A lot of weird looks at parties.

He was referencing the 2020 team (our defense finished 16th in ppg and 14th in ypg that year). Not the 2021 team. Beane made similar comments. He wants to be proven right and I guess he thinks the KC loss validates it. -

I get it. The patience for McDermott seems to be running thin. Lol. -

Great. Can’t wait for the Chargers to win it all in 2031. -

It took him like six years just to beat Ohio State. -
Seems to be a common theme with teams that have played Josh a lot (Belichick, Saleh, Spags). Hate to say it but they're usually right if their team can stay close. I still hate the Shakir shot play. Worst call and decision of an otherwise brilliant game by Brady and Josh.

What realistic coaching changes do you expect?

Name me a head coach that's lasted this long who hasn't fired a crapload of coordinators. -

We heard the same thing when he fired Dorsey and Frazier. It doesn't mean they were the wrong moves though. -

Maybe a couple of lower level lateral transfers but that's about it. Going from 6-6 to the 2 seed and a playoff win saved a lot of jobs. McDermott may give someone the title of DC but he'll continue to call plays imo. -

It's a wide range. -
Wonder if that’s coming to a Bills Embedded episode?

From everything that's ever been said about him is nobody works harder at his craft so I don't know where you get that from. He's just physically limited when it comes to separating in the short to intermediate areas of the field. We need to upgrade and it's pry going to have to happen in the draft.
-
The Chiefs were prepared for it because I could pry punt farther than Martin given his hamstring injury. Combine that with poor execution and that's what you get. Wasn't a fan of the call but will admit I'd call it genius if it worked.

I was begging too (but verbally during the play live) knowing it's a probable first down, we're in the red zone, and that clock keeps rolling. I knew our skeleton crew defense wasn't stopping Mahomes from a game winning TD so I thought our only chance to win was to bleed that clock down and score a TD under 30 seconds. The "what if" he checked it down to Diggs is the equivalent to "what if" they squib kicked it during 13 seconds to me.

If we had the health KC did on defense we would've won this game. If you believe in curses then yes this team will never win a Super Bowl. If you believe in the laws of probability we're more likely to win a Super Bowl in the next five years as long as Beane, McDermott, and Allen are all in place.
