Completely agree. The problem this April won't be selecting offensive players. It will be making sure Beane & Dorsey are 100% committed to getting "the right offensive players". If they're not in agreement it will be a disaster.

Beane knows what style he wants to run and that's why he acquired Cook & Hines. The problem 100% lies in Josh and Ken. Over Josh's first 3-4 seasons he was devastating, running both designed plays and pocket breakdowns. I think in Josh's mind he feels he still has to be the guy running for 80-90 yards. It's in his blood and ego. Dorsey to some degree has fed this narrative and has added the freedom for Josh to go nuts with deep routes. Short safe and productive checkdowns kind of ended week 3. When opponents saw this they implemented a spy with cover shell. And it worked. Unfortunately both Josh and Ken never returned to using dumpoffs and checkdowns like they did against the Rams & Titans. This will be McB's biggest challenge convincing Josh & Ken why the short passes are so instrumental in running a complete offense.

Exactly...we need to start landing promising players (preferably offensive) on cheap 5 year rookies deals. Von was our swing for the fences player and didn't work. Who knows how healthy he'll be this fall. Aaron is not realistic. Stay the course and surround Josh. McD will just have wrestle with this strategy.

....so pretty much the Lakers

Anyone else on the John Michael Schmitz bandwagon?

If Q Johnston gets near 27 you go for it. Not sure yet on Rice. But OL is beyond imperative. -

Just load up on OL / WR as much as you can. We can't keep neglecting this offense. Protect Josh Weapons for Josh -
If Frazier returns, how much will your enthusism die?

Cool....we'll replace realistic fans tired of settling for early playoff exits with delusional satisfied fans content with winning the regular season trophy. Yay -

There will come a time very soon when we stop talking about process and culture in order to move ahead to personnel and execution. That goes for coaches and players. -

If he does return I will be very disappointed. It will be more of a reflection on McDermott by choosing loyalty and continuity over someone with a better playoff scheme or adjustments. I've hoped for over 2 years we transition some out of the zone to a more aggressive man coverage. But obviously Sean will remain status qou and soft tampa2 zone will remain. Playoff caliber teams will have their way with us. -

Schmitz & Mauch would be a hellava combo in the first 2 rounds. We'd have to pray a diamond wr falls to 3rd? -
Kurt Warner's "Study Ball" review of Bengals game.

Saffold, Quessenberry and Crowder. Think about that. These are absolute dumpster dive cheap Jags who do nothing to improve this offense. Q was the clown who almost ended Josh's season. Saffold our worst graded olineman and thanks for nothing Crowder. Meanwhile McMensa wastes a 1st round pick on a CB he hardly let's play. Mind- numbing..... -

Why we abandoned the easy checkdowns which also act as your running game will be the great mystery of 2022? -
Jim Nantz just spent alot of time talking about the challenges Josh & the Bills endured this season. Just said he wouldn't be surprised to see Josh not at Pebble next year because he might be in Vegas.

Dorsey had few hot reads or crossing routes all season. And yes Josh has to be coached up to value the checkdown as much as the fly route. When your weapons are few and teams double Diggs, you revert to hero ball. -
Should the Bills switch to a 3-4 defense?
LABILLBACKER replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall
Exactly...Spector and Bernard are terrible...we're about to lose Edmunds...that leaves Milano....it's not happening, would take way to long to flip back. -

Beane is not the glaring problem for this organization. It's McDermott's incessant need for defensive players over using common sense and building around Josh. Look at all the draft capital and cap$ we've used on defense. I highly doubt Beane just did that on his own. -

Technically we play a 4-2-5. There's never a 3rd linebacker on the field. And realistically Edmunds is a strong safety backpedaling into coverage. So we run a 4-1-6 Tampa2 zone. It only works if you get immediate pressure on the qb. It would take 2-3 years to switch. We need more front 4 pressure. We need less zone and more man press (30%). -
I think 99% of fans realize this. As you accurately said earlier this is an offensive league with rules that further favor the offense. We desperately need a WR2 and OL overhaul. Ben Johnson would be amazing for this team. The strategy from Day1 should've been surround Josh with excellence. And other than Diggs that didn't happen.

McDermott runs the whole show. He selected Beane, Frazier and Dorsey. The defensive scheme that has failed this team in 4 straight playoffs is his. Yes he's a man of high character, culture and process. But beyond that his actual coaching skills leave alot to be desired. I realize why a small percentage of fans are terrified to return to a drought scenario if he is replaced. But I'm 100x more terrified we'll waste the talents of the greatest qb Buffalo will ever see by keeping him and his failed associates around. But if your happy and content with winning regular season games then he's your Schottenheimer type leader. What's the point of competing if you don't strive for a championship.

I agree. We're not getting an opener or a Thanksgiving game which is great.
