What the Bills need to do to take the next step
LABILLBACKER replied to HaldimandBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
The defense under McD has been soft and predictable for years. It's good enough because of the talent to beat up on lesser teams. But come playoffs, it gets schooled. It desperately needs risk and an element of surprise. And as far as our mediocre OL is concerned. Sean has had every opportunity to build it up around Josh. Yet he just can't help himself and allows Beane to keep picking failed DE's/LB's early in the draft. Great baseball analogy, the Bills only have 1 pitch on Defense. The opponents know what's coming. -
To all the Fire McDermott Posters, a follow up question..
LABILLBACKER replied to ChicagoRic's topic in The Stadium Wall
Listen, I root for Sean just as hard as I did Marv. But there comes a time when you absolutely have to outcoach your opponent in high leverage games. Name me one game where McDermott implemented a tactical game plan that outschemed his counterpart. Let's not kid ourselves friends, Josh Allen is the reason we win 10-13 games every year. Now if we had a Belichick, Reid, Shanahan type to draw up a game plan, that would be enough to put us over the top. Unfortunately we have too many fans content with a Schottenheimer type coach. "Just win in the regular season and we're good"........Call me crazy but my goal was always a Lombardi. Not getting out of playoff droughts. -

I'm willing to give him one more year. He'll have full control of the defense so there will be no more scapegoats. Josh and the 23 roster is good enough to get us into the playoffs. McDermott's future will depend on finding a way to jump KC & Cincy. If we lose another playoff game where the defense fails, I'm done with him. Bring in Ben Johnson.- 354 replies

That's an amazingly accurate timeline. I just wish Sean had demanded more defensive aggressiveness from Leslie in 2020 during the afcc loss. It might have eliminated 13 seconds altogether and possibly resulted in a Lombardi the next year.

How Sean deals with the D is the least of my concerns. He'll be more aggressive with blitzes, press coverage and it will reflect in an improved D. It's the other responsibilities of a HC that terrify me. How he deals with the offense, ST and in game adjustments will dictate the temperature of his seat.

I've said for years, besides a mediocre OL, the only thing that can stop Josh Allen is Josh Allen. There were dropped balls early last year by Cook, Dirty and Gabe that suggested a loss of confidence in those guys. Then the Jets ulner injury changed the dynamics of throwing short or short-intermediate. Factor in the 10 or so crazy drama events and poor field conditions v. Cincy and our fate was sealed. Dorsey should've kept routes simple in the snow. Whoever was in charge of cleats that day should be fired. Now that his arm is healed we should see a return to the NE playoff game plan. And factor Diggs, Knox & Kincaid more into the equation.

If Von can return in October I honestly have little concerns about our defense. McD will be substantially more aggressive than Frazier. And that in itself will make a difference. It's whether Dorsey improves and Josh reduces the turnovers that concerns me?

Is Sean McDermott our version of Doug Collins?
LABILLBACKER replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
The bottom line is in an extremely high leverage game like an AFCC or SB, there's absolutely 0 chance McD out-schemes or out-strategizes his opposing HC. And alot of times that's the difference between a Lombardi or not. Sean dominates the culture, Process, player relations world. But as a game technician he blows. He's got the clapping part down. -
Is this year make or break for McDermott?
LABILLBACKER replied to CountDorkula's topic in The Stadium Wall
Marty is the perfect and most accurate comp for McDermott. I've said it these last few years. Eventually Terry will get fed up with the playoff struggles. Sean just doesn't have the ability to out scheme better coaches. That's part of why Josh is forced to play hero ball more than he should. -
Help me understand the Ken Dorsey hate
LABILLBACKER replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah ole beach chair was underwhelming last year. I just don't know if we're ever going to get innovative scheming out of KD? -
Belichick, Reid, Shanahan in that order.

The plug should've been pulled after :13. Daboll should've been immediately promoted. Farwell was his scapegoat in 21. Frazier in 22. And Dorsey will probably be the sacrificial lamb after this season. Sean's the Teflon man. -
This is unbelievable. I held out judgment all offseason giving Diggs the benefit of the doubt. I knew his history. I was not happy about the tirade in front of Josh or him storming out of the locker room. Now this? Is it because of Josh?....Dorsey?....contract issues?....wants to be traded to Dallas to be with his brother?......who F' ing knows? This is the last thing this team needs right now.

I have never seen a poster use the term "entertained" as often as you. It's almost like you're setting up a defense mechanism against being let down by explaining your personal fandom as just "entertain me". I think if you experienced those 90's SB loses where we were in contention every year, you would have a better understanding of how devastating it was to hard core fans like myself. I guess we're just in different tiers of fandom.

The Vikings, they're just like us. They've lost 4 SB's. They play well most regular seasons, only to struggle in the playoffs.
