  1. You laid it out pretty succinctly. I will be rooting hard for Allen to succeed, but it is IMPOSSIBLE for me to forget the ghosts of Losman and Manuel. Until proven otherwise, this feels like part 3 of a really bad movie series that I'm sick of watching. Here's hoping I'm totally wrong on this one.
  2. Looking at your screenname made me remember how geeked I was when the Bills took Youboty in the 3rd round and Ko Simpson in the 4th. I thought we were going to have the best secondary in the league. Whoops.
  3. It is not my belief that Trent Murphy would be very effective as a strong side LB in McDermott's zone heavy 4-3. He could moonlight there every now and again, but not full time. That's just my opinion. When I look at the roster as currently constructed, I see two glaring holes: WR2 (Zay should be in the slot for maximum effectiveness) and Strong side linebacker. If the Bills can somehow find a downfield threat and stopgap linebacker, I'll feel a lot better.
  4. A thought just occurred to me that's kind of interesting: Our first round picks, Allen and Edmunds, are both extremely young and raw in the game, but both have elite (like...possibly among the greatest of all time at their position) physical ability. Both of them have boom or bust potential. If both of them boom, though? The Bills could get pretty good pretty fast.
  5. I was 100% a "please please please don't draft Josh Allen!" guy. I was depressed when Buffalo picked him. Maybe it's because I want to believe the Bills made the right choice, or maybe it's because I'm an eternal optimist...but I'm coming around. The fact of the matter is that Mayfield and Darnold weren't realistic options, so it came down to Allen vs Rosen. Seeing Allen's character, work ethic, leadership, team fit, toughness, and physical upside, I understand why Buffalo made the choice they did. I really, really hope that Josh Allen becomes the best quarterback the Bills have ever had. Lord knows Buffalo is due for some luck.
  6. Between the highlight video, his cool name, and the video of him eating James Washington's lunch...I'm sold.
  7. With his height/weight combination and the fact that, at 19 years old, he's not done growing...Edmunds may be the biggest, most monstrous looking MLB I've ever seen. I mean...6'5", 250 lbs, and he runs a 4.5?! Wow, man. Wow. Baaaaaad things!
  8. So much this. I will never, ever question McDermott about his selections at CB, S, or LB. I just won't. The man knows what he is doing. Now, over on the OFFENSIVE side of the ball? Like, say, at wide receiver?......that's a whole other ball of wax.
  9. Darnold threw 7 more interceptions last year than Allen. Oh, and Adams has yet to record a single NFL interception. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  10. “People call you and they want the second pick of the draft for a bag of donuts, a hot pretzel and a hot dog. Leave me alone. I don’t have time to screw around.” —Giants GM Dave Gettleman, with what was actually The Quote of The 2018 Draft. Based on the above quote, the quote from Beane about liking multiple quarterbacks, and other quotes by Beane about not wanting to give up next year's 1st and that kind of being a deal breaker....I can't help but wonder if Beane wanted to get up to 2 but lowballed the Giants. I also can't help but wonder how much Gettleman was asking for. Now before we go any further: Yes, I fully realize the point is moot now, because the draft is over and done with. Nevertheless, it's a long few months until training camp starts, and we need SOMETHING to talk about, and this was a historically significant draft for the Bills, in that it will shape the next 5-15 years of their future. So hypothetically, what's the most YOU would've given up to move to the 2 spot once it was known that Darnold would be available? This, of course, assumes that you like Darnold significantly more than Allen. Would you give up both of this year's 1sts, two 2nds, and a 3rd? What about a 1st, 2nd, and two 3rds this year, and a 1st next year? If it meant having Darnold, what would YOU have offered if you were Beane? Was this a matter of the 2nd overall pick truly being available for the right price, but Beane not being willing to pay? Just thought it was an interesting "franchise crossroads" moment that maybe took place on Thursday.
  11. I don't disagree. However, right now, the cupboard at the strong side linebacker spot is pretty bare. If you take Alexander away, I'm not sure who you have starting in that role. Humber? He played weakside last year. Tanner Vallejo? He's listed as an ILB currently. Stay tuned for a free agent addition at that position.
  12. DE - Jerry Hughes DT - Star Lotulelei DT - Kyle Willams DE - Trent Murphy OLB - Matt Milano ILB - Tremaine Edmunds OLB - Lorenzo Alexander CB - Tre'Davious White FS - Micah Hyde SS - Jordan Poyer CB - Vontae Davis Personally, I think that's a pretty good base D. Lotulelei will eat up double teams, which should have a trickle-down effect on the rest of our defense. Edmunds should elevate the defense, if all goes well, the same way that Kuechly massively elevates the Panthers defense. Keep in mind, though, that the Bills are likely to be in a nickle look more often than a 4-3 base. In that case, drop Alexander and add in Taron Johnson or Phillip Gaines.
  13. I couldn't help but notice the words "Round 1" in the title of this thread. Does that mean we get 6 more installments of the riveting series known as "exactly why I think Beane blew the draft"?! Surely we can't be that lucky!
  14. This post could have been much shorter. "I didn't like any of the quarterbacks this year, and I thought the Bills should have taken a defensive tackle and an offensive guard instead". There. Saved you a bunch of words.
  15. Just got done watching 15 minutes of Harrison Phillips highlights. I already love him as a player! For some reason, I also love that he wore #66 in college and will wear #99 for the Bills. Also that his nickname is Horrible Harry. This dude and Trent Murphy -- The Stanford Destroyers -- together on the Bills d-line. Can't wait!
  16. I'm only saying that if he's clearly playing better in camp and preseason than the other two quarterbacks, you can't keep him on the bench, even if you would like to do so in an ideal world. Like coach McDermott said: "It wouldn't be fair to the other 52 guys". All of that being said, the best possible scenario, in my opinion, would be McCarron or Peterman playing so well and winning enough games that Allen can't even get onto the field. That would be fantastic. But what if the Bills get off to a 2-5 start and the season looks lost? Wouldn't you rather get Allen live game reps than plod along to 4-12 behind AJ or Nate? The other thing that I always think: Aside from Aaron Rodgers, who was the last quarterback who sat a full season and went on to be good? I can't think of anybody. Sometimes, guys don't learn from the bench as well as they learn from live bullets flying.
  17. I think there's a pretty decent chance that Chris Simms had it right: Come training camp, Bills players and coaches and fans are going to see Josh Allen thrown 10 passes, and then see McCarron and Peterman throw 10 passes, and realize how superior Allen's arm strength and physical talent. Now, obviously there is more to playing QB in the NFL than having a big arm and physical talent, but it won't exactly be shocking if Josh Allen so significantly out-throws the other two guys that he winds up winning the job. Remember, too: As much as everyone says Allen is a project, the system he played in at Wyoming was closer to NFL offense than any of the other top prospects from this year. 48% of snaps from under center, advanced route concepts, RPOs, you name it. The same system that Wentz ran in college. Oh, and he has that 37 Wonderlic score. People shouldn't be that shocked if he wins the job. If not by week 1, then certainly by week 6 or 7.
  18. I have a basic policy: I never get upset over day 3 picks. Why? Because I've never seen most of these kids play. I only know what draft guides and analysts tell me, and those are obviously wrong a lot and very limited compared to the knowledge and access that pro scouts have. That being said, from what I'm reading about the Bills' day 3 picks, I am cautiously optimistic. Johnson should be CB4 immediately and contribute on special teams, with the upside to become a starting nickel. He absolutely DOMINATED in college. Neal should be a big nickel (S/LB) hybrid for us and could see immediate playing time in 3-safety sub-package looks. He will also contribute on special teams. Wyatt Teller seems like a beast and I expect him to be a starting guard sooner than later. At the very least, he'll be excellent depth. Ray Ray McCloud will immediately factor into the punt return competition and could have some usefulness as a gadget player. Depth, special teams and sub package contributions, and potential long term starting capability. Not much more you can ask for from day 3 of the draft.
  19. Watching everyone get their panties in a wad over a sixth round punt returner is the height of NFL offseason hilarity for me.
  20. Riiiiiight. I'm sure there's no reason at all that every team in the NFL has passed on him through 6 rounds now. No reason at all.
  21. That's why I like ya, Blokes. Because a particular offensive line configuration is the type of thing to get you sexually aroused.
  22. Matt Miller LOVES him. Says he profiles as a starting guard in the NFL. Raved about the pick and said "Bills have had a GREAT draft! I'm gonna go up to Buffalo and tailgate with the Bills mafia!"
  23. Ya know what else is getting really old? People thinking that a 5th round receiver is the difference between good and bad offensive production in 2018. Rome wasn't built in a day.
  24. Guess you thought there was a 5th round receiver out there that would change the offense's fate this year? smh. Rome wasn't built in a day.
  25. Indeed it would have. But if we had kept all those picks and "filled all of our needs", it would have sucked to not have a potential franchise QB and freak ILB just as bad, and people would've been upset anyway.
