I always figured they were only gonna do a 1-2 year deal with a veteran with speed. That way, they don’t have to be in the position of NEEDING Gabriel Davis to become WR2 — though I bet he naturally will anyway. Consider Sanders veteran insurance in case Davis doesn’t progress the way they hope he will. Essentially, the retention of the o-linemen and signing of Sanders means that, save for the Tyler Krofts and Ike Boettgers of the world, the Bills have a ready-to-go starting offense right now. They’re not gonna lose anything from last year. Hopefully they continue to add — I’m sure they will. But even if not, our offense shouldn’t miss a beat from last year. Now I’m off to watch Sanders from last year. Seems like he’s still pretty fast to me!

Bills FA Strategy - Bargain Hunting
Logic replied to Weatherman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
One of my favorite bargain options, FA WR John Ross, just signed with the Giants for $1M guaranteed. Darn it. -
Raiders cut center Rodney Hudson, possibly cash poor
Logic replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I did read that if the Raiders designate Hudson as a post June 1st cut, he'd save them $6,400,000. So there's that. Still...this Mayock/Gruden marriage is looking worse and worse by the minute. All the eloquent draft analysis and Spider 2 Y Banana in the world ain't gonna win them the AFC West if they can't draft or retain good players. -
Shelling out big bucks in free agency is the price you pay for drafting poorly and/or failing to retain your own drafted talent. It very, VERY rarely happens that we look back at the biggest offseason spenders each year and decide that it was money well spent. "Winning the offseason" ain't worth much. Besides, as we have seen again and again, collecting talent and building a team are not the same thing.

Patrick Peterson-bills in the mix with others
Logic replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I fully agree. In my opinion, it’s not an either/or, though. Both a CB2 upgrade AND dynamic edge presence are needed. -
Like I previously said: in 2019, the Bills were incredibly effective at limiting TEs. Last year, they weren’t. There’s no reason to believe that with a full offseason and better health (and personnel additions yet to be added), they can’t regain their 2019 form . Our coaches aren’t dummies and our LBs and safeties aren’t scrubs.

I get the feeling that it’s a priority to McDermott and co to find a CB2 that can more effectively play man coverage, in order to diversify what the defense can do schematically. Wallace and Norman couldn’t play man coverage for beans. White and Peterson? Now THAT would be a diverse, athletic, effective duo, IMO. -

Sounds about right. Peterson is vastly, VASTLY superior in man coverage to any CB2 the Bills have had under McDermott. While Peterson May be slowing a bit, he’s still just 30 years old. I think he has a few good years of football left. -

He seemed to mostly erase Diggs last season, with one crucial exception... -
Not much works well against Kelce.

If only we had some recent game tape to watch to see how a Bills defense could effectively deal with an offense using heavy 12 personnel and a mobile QB in a predominately run-based attack...

Having Edmunds and Milano healthy should help. The Bills held tight ends to the third fewest receiving yards in 2019, when both players were healthy all year.

John Ross as WR replacement for JohnBrown
Logic replied to Niagara Dude's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have been advocating for signing John Ross. Beane likes to take swings on supremely physically talented players and high draft picks that didn't pan out with their first team. I think Brian Daboll could absolutely find ways to use Ross's speed. Could he come in and be WR2? That seems doubtful, at least in the immediate term. Could he contribute meaningful snaps and add another weapon to the arsenal? I think he could, yes. -
I never thought I'd say this, but... I will root for the Washington Football Team this year! Fitz will always and forever be one of my all-time favorite NFL players, and nothing will ever change that. Go win the NFC East, Fitzy!!

A great quote I just saw on Twitter: "Handing out huge contracts in Free agency is the price you pay for drafting poorly". Case in point: Belichick spent two third round picks on tight ends last year -- one of whom he traded up to select -- and then had to turn around and sign two in free agency the very next year.

In size and athletic profile, too. They're both 6'3", 207 lbs. Both ran 4.4 40s. I'm not knocking having two big dudes who can run fast. They just remind me of each other, that's all.

Is it just me, or is Davis' skillset a bit redundant with Denzel Mims'? They seem like the same guy to me.

Bills not tendering Levi Wallace; have offered a contract
Logic replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I bet he ends up coming back on a one-year deal. A former UDFA and true zone corner who lacks man-to-man ability and isn't really a playmaker and isn't a fit in a lot of schemes isn't going to be in high demand. At the end of the day, I predict a Dane Jackson vs Levi Wallace vs early draftee battle for the CB2 spot.
